Emerald Lake Lodge

Lake Louise, Alberta

The hotel

Ensconced in stunning natural surroundings, Emerald Lake Lodge is set in the heart of Yoho National Park, overlooking the jade-coloured waters of Emerald Lake. In traditional lodge style, the cosy guestrooms here each have a wood-burning fireplace and balcony and are set within 24 buildings, scattered amongst the 38-acres of grounds and gardens. There’s no shortage of history within these timber walls either; you’ll discover centuries-old fireplaces and a lounge with an oak bar salvaged from an 1892 Yukon saloon. The magnificent dining room serves exceptional Rocky Mountain cuisine and the Main Lodge features reading and sitting rooms for quiet contemplation. Due to the lodge's remote setting, there's no mobile reception, but if you wish check on life back home there’s a games room with TV and internet access. During your stay here, take a canoe out on the lake, relax in the outdoor hot tub, explore the numerous hiking trails or simply enjoy the fine hospitality as you take in spectacular alpine vistas and the clear mountain air.

The restaurant was excellent and the food was by far better than the 5 star hotel in Jasper than we stayed in the previous nights. I am amazed at the price charged for a nights stay. There appeared to be a number of tour groups staying at the lodge but strangely I never saw them dining at the restaurant. It could be that the lodge is focusing on them in place of the other patrons. May I suggest they turn their attention to the non tour patrons. Would I return is the question. It was an adventure to see Yoho Park and one visit satisfied my curiosity. Read less

This was our fourth time in The Emerald Lake Lodge. The last time we stayed there was nine years ago. Unfortunately our memories of a charming and semi luxurious lodge are gone now. The place is run-down and hugely understaffed. The room was filthy and housekeeping was a joke. Not to mention that we were advised to sanitize our hands after using the tap water (how about the rest of the body?). The sanitizer was provided. The service was slow and unresponsive. The restaurant might have been a brighter point, if it was cleaner and management wasn't enforcing its own sitting preferences on patrons. We were lucky to be served by a nice lady who together with the food and adequate wine list let us save some of our good memories. All in all, the place badly needs investment and care which it used to have for so many years. Read less
