The Rimrock is outside of downtown Banff and is not walking distance - you will require a car or need to use the shuttle. However, it is walking distance to the Gondola and Hot Springs. It is not a difficult drive into town, there is lots of parking and we saw Elk on both evenings heading into town. Our room was spacious and clean, with a wonderful open view towards Cascade Mountain and Banff. The room was peaceful and quiet. I could not find a fan in the bathroom, which made it stuffy and slightly unpleasant so I left the door open to shower. Staff were not particularly friendly, however this did not ultimately affect my experience. Housekeeping were very lazy in attending to our room - we were in our room one afternoon around 3.30pm when they arrived, getting ready to go out and they only made an effort to tidy one bed and replace our towels. They did not make the other bed, empty bins, take a glass dish with food scraps left it in or replace tissues and toilet paper without being prompted. There were also bits and pieces scattered throughout the hallway for prolonged periods during our stay, including bits of rubbish, room service left overs, an unwanted kettle and alcohol bottles. We thought this was an extremely poor effort given the price paid for the room. Breakfast was plentiful however we did not eat lunch or dinner at the hotel. We did not have an issue self parking in the parking lot, however the lot is extremely tight and you may find it difficult to manoeuvre large North American vehicles through it. Overall, I am glad we chose to stay here over the Fairmont Banff Springs and downtown hotels, despite the small things which I have commented on here. The location, view and rooms are worth the cost, however I think the attention to a positive customer experience could be improved. Read less

I stayed there a few times the last few years, unfortunately, it seems to me that it is getting worse and worse. A huge renovation is much needed and people could smile more :-). The room I had, unfortunately, was not as good as what I expected from the website.

Well run and maintained hotel with good accommodations, spectacular views and close to the village. Friendly and well socked bar with a comforting ambiance. A great place for both vacations, business trips and conferences, catering to the young and old.

I don't know why anyone would choose the Fairmont over the Rimrock. This hotel has it all, Great service, excellent food, peaceful location, great views. WE enjoyed our evenings on our balcony, just looking at the mountains. Amazing!

We stayed in a Grandview Suite on the sixth floor for three nights and it was fabulous! The two room suite was so comfortable with a fireplace, comfortable beds, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave and two seating areas. Most of all, the view is so amazing we were reluctant to leave the room! We also really enjoyed the jetted tubs; so relaxing. The service from every department was excellent. We really enjoyed the lobby bar that serves food and has a huge wood burning fireplace burning most of the time and great views. The tomato soup was delicious and hot and we enjoyed the nachos with drinks. We enjoyed room service one night which was also excellent. We love the hotel's location. It is a short drive to town yet feels like another world. Downtown Banff is fun but so crowded. We loved coming back to the tranquil setting at the top of the hill nestled in the mountains. We travel a lot and I don't remember the last time I was so sad to leave a hotel....can't wait to return! The suite was a bit of a splurge but worth every penny. Highly recommend this wonderful place. Read less
