Niagara Falls, Niagara

Virgin rating

The hotel

If you’re wanting to get the best up-close experience of Niagara Falls, then that’s exactly what the Marriott on the Falls will give you. When we say close-up, this is the nearest place to stay to those three famed Falls — Horseshoe, American and Bridal Veil. If you want to get even closer, you’re in the perfect spot to head out on a boat on the waters. But you don’t have to if you don’t want to, as the hotel has an observation deck, a restaurant where you can eat and admire the views, and rooms where you can open the curtains each morning to the sight of the spectacular rushing waters.

We spent hours sitting at the window and watching the Niagara Falls at night with changing light show, sipping wine. The hotel is fine, rather big and touristic as expected. Nevertheless, the location and view is priceless. You can reach the Falls even on foot. The breakfast was fine for a short stay. The service was great. All the staff in restaurant were super nice and friendly. Read less

Very bad room service. Very rude staff, I called at front desk after we checked in for our coffee machine which is not working and called again and they said u called in less than 10 minutes it. They don't even check before giving rooms and not helping.

The overcharged me for the breakfast buffet. It was supposed to be $29 and they charge you $36 when you get there unless you prepay which the desk did not tell me about. The pool was extremely crowded, and they did not offer the specified room I requested without paying a FEE. Some staff were OK, but the manager of the restaurant should be fired!… Read more

The welcome drink was basically a shot glass full of beer/wine, so NOT worth the amenity fee. It does include a pass for the bus though, which is helpful. Read less

They also offered us sparkling wine asa gift for our stay. It was absolutely wonderful! There was a dance competition happening from Friday to Sunday which made elevator waits a little longer but not more than a few minutes. Breakfast buffet was included in our package. We enjoyed the fresh omelette station but would’ve like to see more options in terms of protein. Other than Chicken sausage I’d recommend Turkey bacon as an addition. We did encounter mold on the bread one morning but they quickly corrected this by removing the loaf and apologized and gave us the hollandaise sauce I had asked for on the side for free. Service was friendly and attentive. We would definitely return as a couple or with our children in the future. Read less

Tomorrow would have been three weeks to our long anticipated week long break at your establishment . A little over three weeks before departure we were informed by our travel agent that you had cancelled the booking and no reason was forthcoming . An alternative establishment was offered which was about a mile away from the view that we were hoping for and when reading the endless numbers of complaints on a number of booking sites which all spoke of the interminable waits experienced by guests and queues in the corridors with numbers of the lifts out of action along with other issues caused us concern . We both had issues with mobility and upon hearing of so many guests having to walk between floors caused us to take the regrettable step of declining the offer and in effect causing our long anticipated break to unfold before our eyes . What astonishes us is that nothing at all was mentioned all last year as to any problem and just after Christmas when we paid for the break we thought that it would be plain sailing and we eagerly anticipated a very pleasant stay and possibly the chance to see something wonderful on April the Eight within such a spectacular setting . We did wonder if you had overbooked and as a result we’re not able to honour the contract made between us and yourselves because as far as we can see that is probably the only reason as to why you declined us . This was to be a belated 60th Birthday present for my wife and to say the least we were both looking forward very much to this adventure . Back in August 1999 we were in Cornwall for the Total Solar Eclipse and saw first hand the level of demand for accommodation along with the price hikes that landlords imposed on visitors where many were denied the opportunity owing to inflated rental fees oddly enough just for one week in August . The whole situation has been a disaster unfolding and has left a very bad taste in dashing something that we hoped so very much for and once we obtain our refund from our travel agent I shall commence planning something special for my wife Lorraine but I am at pains to say that it won’t be Niagara Falls opposite The Horseshoe Falls . Thanks for Nothing ! Garry Clarke . Read less
