Novotel Montreal Center

Montreal, Canada

The hotel

Bright and cheerful, Novotel Montreal Centre greets you with a lobby of vibrant reds and soothing putties — and it’s got a lot to be cheerful about. Take its location for starters. Nestled among the downtown district’s biggest draws, it’s an easy stroll from the underground shopping of Rue Sainte-Catherine, the hockey games and live events of Bell Centre, and the dining and drinking venues of Crescent Street. Then there are the hotel ‘musts’ it delivers, including 24-hour fitness, fresh modern guestrooms, and a well-considered room service menu. And, of course, there’s L’Ô, whose kitchen whips up international and local eats. You can start your day there too, tucking into anything from croissants to their ‘Quebecker Breakfast’, which pairs sausages, bacon, and potatoes, with traditional Quebec cretons and scrumptious French toast — you can even order a mimosa if you’re feeling indulgent.

We brought our two grown up kids with us who certainly took advantage of the bustling night life, but that is another story. The book in was fine. Young man at reception appeared to be passive aggressive but for those of us who have visited France you come to understand that this is natural. He did a great job booking us in. Wew were in room 818 which overlooked a building site but they have the thickest black curtains which keep out the light and the noise. The duvets are the best I have ever had in any hotel. Felicitations. The lifts are smooth and as someone who has claustrophobia I had no problem with them at all. But the main plus for the hotel is the location. You are bang in the middle the city with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafés all around you. Would love to see Montreal in the winter and this would be the perfect location for a frosty vacation. We were impressed and happy with the stay although next time would prefer a different room although that was no big deal. It was warm and cozy and kept out the cold. Read less

It is centrally located ion Centre Ville between Rene Levesque and St Catherine, within walking distance of many sights, the Arts Center, restaurants, the metro and Starbucks. It also has a wonderful restaurant that serves full breakfast and dinner daily. The rooms are clean and modern and the staff is excellent. I was checked in by Alexandre, a manager, and he greeted me by name daily. I checked out at 4am to catch an early flight and the clerk offered to fix me an espresso to go because of the early hour. The staff will gladly help in any way you want. In addition to nearby metro, taxis are right out front and Uber is always just a few minutes away. Read less

Our room was quite clean but housekeeping was spasmodic. We liked the recycle bin as we recycle everything at home. We expect to receive pens and pads every day in a four star establishment when one is paying over AU$400.00 per night. We also expect more than two non English Breakfast teabags and two cheap Maxwell House coffee sachets. Accompanying these was a pack of ‘milk’ powder full of preservatives, sugar etc. What happened to little pods of milk? The bed and pillows were wonderful, despite the very hot duvets Accor hotels insist on providing, and the view of the two restaurants across the road was pleasing. The sofa bed allowed us to people watch when rain poured down. Silvain worked hard in the breakfast room pouring coffees, clearing and wiping down tables and always with a smile. However, the hard, crisp bacon was cold as were the potatoes. The fresh fruit could be cut smaller so that one can eat it with a spoon and not a knife and fork. The omelette/fritatta was tasty. This was my first time staying with this hotel brand and sadly it did not leave me with a good impression to consider this hotel group again but I read their other locations are better. To be fair this is a semi-boutique without the charm type hotel; so one can't expect tailored cookie cutter amenities like complimentary breakfast or level of factory cleanse (varies). It is not cheap for the quality. The room is big, the 3 stars is for the very friendly front desk personnel, who did not throw a fuss to move me to another room for a in house reason. The room is large for a downtown location but very poor air circulation, bit noisy even with sound proof windows, bed was fine, sheets and towels clean. Was not crazy about the complimentary personal care product offer-they were imported, I prefer the hotel that even has the towels down to made in America. I also don't like the half glass shower partition. The sustainable idea is great but makes it seems budget quality. It is near two Metro line but they are apart (good 5-10 minutes walk. The airport bus is right at the corner (takes about 1 hr to get there). There are lots of fancy restaurant on direction and lots of fast food the other direction. Walking distance to McGill U and another college. Walking distances to museums. Read less
