Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland

St Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador

The hotel

Nods to its nautical setting create a unique atmosphere at Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, where harbour views are accompanied by maritime-inspired artwork and porthole windows. But this isn't a themed hotel, and you can expect all the smart modern styling of a Sheraton too, with contemporary guest rooms, global dining rooms, and a fitness hub whose gym, pool, and whirlpool feature views of the covered courtyard garden. Sitting in the footprint of old Fort William, in one of North America's oldest cities, a walk along St John's waterfront leads you past Harbourside Park to popular Georges Street.

Parking here is a hassle. The restaurant and room service are way overpriced and the food is underwhelming. The staff are not friendly and don’t go out of there way to help you. They won’t let food delivery up to the room so you have to go down to the main lobby to meet the delivery driver. The elevators are super slow! They are renovating which… Read more

My wife and I stayed 4 nights here in early November and found it to be the perfect location to operate from within St John's. Close enough to walk downtown to all the action, and also close to Signal Hill and Quidi Vidi for hikes and adventures away from downtown - we loved that. The hotel itself is nice and service was great. Our only minor complaint would be the 'portal' hotel rooms. The view out the round window was nice, but the window is small and therefore the room a little darker than you might like. Granted, we weren't there much, so a small point. Would come back. When comparing prices with other hotels downtown, make sure to add on the hidden “room revenue” charge of $7 per night. This charge is mentioned nowhere on Marriott.com. Just a little surprise for you on checkout. Also note that the Courtyard by Marriott 20 steps away does not charge $14 per night parking. We normally stay at the Courtyard by… Read more

Just a little surprise for you on checkout. Also note that the Courtyard by Marriott 20 steps away does not charge $14 per night parking. We normally stay at the Courtyard by Marriott - which is clean, modern and always a good experience. Decided to give the Sheraton a try as it appeared to be only $20 per night more. But tack on the hidden fee and parking and it was quite a bit more. Granted it is fancier than the Courtyard (but dated) and there is a pool. Stay was good. No complaints. I just don’t appreciate hidden fees. Read less

We should have reported this the first night, but only done it at the end of our stay. View from the room was spectacular down the narrows and signal. Great location. We went down for breakfast on our last day for the buffet. There were flies buzzing around the food which was off-putting. I had a dirty knife and spoon and asked for replacements. This was greeted rather rudely and the male server grabbed them and came back and kind of threw them down. Obviously wasn't happy. I would stay at the hotel again as we loved the atmosphere. Aside from the server in the restaurant and the old mattress, it was a great stay. Read less
