We arrived for a one night stay and our room wasn’t quite ready, no problem, we had a drink in the bar. When our room was ready, surprise, an upgrade! Our three night stay was wonderful. We received a queen room on the fourth floor, facing the water front. The hotel was well located to the waterfront/Farmer's Market, QEII hospital, and Point Pleasant Park. There is also a grocery right next door. The room was clean, comfortable and updated. The bathroom was a bit small, and only allowed one person at a time in the space. Not a big deal as it was well equipped. The towels were soft and fluffy. The bed was very comfortable, not too soft, not too hard. The bedding was perfect. The staff was fantastic. We arrived late in the evening and upon getting to the room I realized there was no decaffeinate coffee in the room. We were exhausted, but I needed decaf in the morning, so I called downstairs to request some and expected to wait for 30-60 minutes for someone to arrive. HOWEVER, within 5 minutes there was a knock at the door and someone delivering coffee!!! This was not a fluke as I had to call for more decaf on another night, and again, it was delivered immediately! The front desk was very helpful in getting us early morning transportation to the airport. When we return to Halifax in the future, this is where we will stay. Read less

Room was small with very poor carpet on floor. Bathroom small and walk in closet with a musty smell. Dining room closed at lunch and dinner; open only certain days. Not convenient as we were on a tight schedule and the only place to eat was a lobby bar that was already busy.

i stayed twice at the Westin NS, and my second experience was the worst. Hotel is old and has been partially renovated; some carpets were replaced yet inside rooms you still see old worn out carpets. Bathrooms are tiny cramped, low toilet profile, stuck in the corner kinda thing. Location is good downtown. My main problem with the hotel was their parking lot. It is used as 'first come first served' even if you had paid for it, or was included in the much higher room rate $160/night. The hotel is big on hosting events, days, nights or weekends. During my last stay April 2019 I wanted to park my car at 7 pm and there were no spots available. Went for a drive came back at 8 yet no luck. Reception explained the unfortunate "fact" that the hotel was hosting an event that night - no express of apology, empathy, compensation, nothing despite my frustration. They told I could park anywhere in the streets or in the grocery store parking lot (sounds right?). I did so as i had no other choice. At 10 pm i started seeing ppl freeing up the parking lot, went ahead and moved my car to the hotel parking lot.. funny thing you see the ppl coming out from the event drunk in the elevator and hallways looking for their rooms - part of the event package i guess. I was upset and expressed my disappointment to both the night staff and the morning, yet heard nothing by silence from either one of them. As a Marriott Elite, you trust the Marriott brand coz of the positive experience in the other hotels of the chain, yet this is a reminder that not all of what is in the chain is at the same quality level. Westin is at the bottom of this list, and for the same price I could have gotten a much better reputable Delta or Marriott hotel. Read less
