We hosted our reception for our wedding at the Westin in June and could not have asked for a better venue. Jeff, the event coordinator, was always available to help with anything we needed. He was calm and easy to work with and the day would not have been the same without him. Never once did he seem irritated with my dozens of random emails and just a couple panicked phone calls. He help us plan our wedding in only 6 months, and could solve any problem we had. Thanks to Jeff and the Westin staff, the reception went off without a hitch, was well organized, and I still get comments from guests about how good the chicken was. All the staff at the Westin were extremely pleasant and kind. A special thanks to the friendly valet who assisted me in unloading my car full of wedding decorations to the staff who had the majority of the room cleaned up the following morning before we even got there. We had numerous comments from guests about how our wedding was the best they’ve been to and how much fun they had. Thank you so much, Jeff and the Westin Nova Scotian! Read less

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights last week. We arrived a little after 6 pm. We arrived by train. There's lots to do in the area, making it the ideal place to stay. My husband used mobile check-in so we expected everything to be in order when we arrived as it usually is at other properties. We were 20 minutes late for the 6 pm arrival we had indicated. (As mentioned we took the train and have no control over the time we arrived.) When we entered the hotel from the train waiting room it was clear the hotel was under some renovations and the front desk was blocked off with yellow caution tape. We proceeded a little further to find three people seated at a table with computers in front of them, with no signage to indicate it was the front desk. "Yes", the first person said. "Is this the front desk?" my husband asked. "Yes" was the reply. He gave our name and said we had used the mobile check-in but she said the mobile check-in did not go through. We expected all they would need is the Bonvoy number to call up the profile. Nope. It was like starting all over. Next she says, "Due to your late check-in your preferred room type is not available." Not sure what that meant as we were only 20 minutes late due to the train arrival. She proceeded immediately to "What would you like as your Platinum gift?" We did not bother to correct her (my husband is Titanium) - several hotels think Titanium is lower than Platinum anyway. He asked for the options, which are : Continental breakfast for 1, valet parking or 1000 points. We chose breakfast and he indicated that me, his wife, (I was standing next to him) would also like breakfast. "Oh, would you like to add your wife to the reservation?" She sighs and writes "X2" on the little card, then fills one out for the following day and advises us that full breakfast will be $10 extra. By this time all we want are the keys and less attitude. If you think this is a "one-off" there are several similar experiences documented on TripAdvisor about front desk experiences. The room: Okay I read reviews/responses on TA from the hotel that said the rooms had been renovated. They missed our room-811. There is more to renovating a room than placing hard-surface tops on the 80's scratched up desk and TV stand in the room. The desk chair is really worn out with missing chunks in the seat part. The carpet is dirty and stained, and debris left by a prior guest remained. The 26" TV is an early 6-inch thick "flat" panel - not exactly up to current hotel standards. Finally, if they paid someone to renovate the bathroom they were ripped off. The old chipped tub has simply been retouched with paint, random shower tiles have been replaced and the toilet is ancient. Sure there's some marble and new chrome accents, but the controls for both the shower and the toilet must date from 50's. There is a new rainfall shower head, but the pairing of things like that with cracked floor tiles looks out of place. On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable. There was also a nice view of the harbour. No bathrobes were provided despite their supposed inclusion with our "preferred room type." We found the internet to be very inconsistent and the phone did not work properly. (It was stuck on speaker and could not be changed.) The dining room: We ate there both mornings for the breakfast. Food was excellent. Service was great and Rosario was very pleasant and accommodating. We also ordered room service and the delivery person was very nice. Food was good. . In conclusion, the hotel is in a great location if you want to be near the harbour or the train station. Read less

Rosario in the restaurant was so friendly and made me feel appreciated. The server whose name was Bogdin (I think) extremely sweet and professional. The food throughout my stay was wonderful. Room service came fast, hot and delicious.....served by a very nice lady, Donna or Danielle, I can’t remember, but she returned to collect my dirty dishes 90 minutes later (which isn’t typical for most places). I had a very comfortable stay, I will definitely be back! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating The location is great but part of the hotel is under construction

It was a short walk to the seaside promenade, with grad views of the ocean and lots of restaurants, and the must-see Pier 21 museum, a more energetic but well worthwhile walk to the citadel. However, part of the hotel is under construction, there is no lobby, and the fan/heat did not work in the room.

While it's located at the end of the city and you may need to taxi/ drive, we absolutely love this hotel. The rooms are perfect. The beds are sooooo comfortable with the softest sheets. As a side note, the robes in the rooms are spa-like. So warm and cozy. A grocery store and liquor store is very nearby.
