The hotel

Among the French-flavoured attractions of Gatineau, this red-brick residence sits 100m from Maison du Citoyen, surrounded by popular museums like the Canadian Museum of History. I learned that Stephen Harper had the name of the Museum of Civilization changed to the Museum of History. Really! why? Across the street is the 4 Points. Great location. I learned that Stephen Harper had the name of the Museum of Civilization changed to the Museum of History. Really! why? Across the street is the 4 Points. Great location. About a three minute walk to the Alexandra Bridge which takes you across the river to the National Gallery and Parliament Buildings. The hotel is a standard Sheraton. Staff was friendly and helpful. The pool is quite small and should have a changing room so you don’t have to wander through the lobby in your bathing suit. Rooms are a good size and very clean. Beds are comfortable. I had a room across from the elevator so there was some noise so I had to sleep after the first night with a white noise machine. If you don’t use housekeeping you get a $5 a night credit. I combined my credits and used them to pay for a meal in the hotel restaurant. The restaurant is not large but had friendly staff and reasonable prices. Within walking distance to many tourist attractions. Read less

Spent a few days here for work. Close to the office, after work events, and the staff bent over backwards to make me feel comfortable. Took advantage of their green program, gym, etc. Good beer at the bar, the restaurant has a passable breakfast. Overall, lovely!

I had one meal from the restaurant (the obligatory poutine) and it was hot and tasty and the portion size was enough for two. Read less

I have my friend booked 3 rooms for the stay. The booking is in my friend’s name which is quite common. I arrived before my friend and I asked to be checked in first. This has been done by many other hotels. To my surprise, this hotel’s front desk staff told me that the hotel’s policy is to require my friend to arrive before I am allowed to check in. On being asked if my friend would not arrive until many hours later, would I have to wait for hours? The answer is ‘yes’. Fortunately, in my case, my friend is arriving minutes later. This kind of unique inconvenient. And lack of sensitivity to the need of customers make me feel that I am arriving at a military camp with strict rules and rigidity. I hope the hotel will change that policy or else I will stay away from this hotel or if Marriott has this policy, I will say ‘shame’ on this brand name. I hope there is clarification. Take note that I did have my friend on the phone with the front desk, and I have presented my identity and credit card and I even offered to cover the charges if my friend has any other concerns like he would not recognize me.
