Older style, beautiful, hotel with lots of character. PROS - clean room, super fast check in and check out, great location CONS - we got the upgrade "parkview" room, you can see the park but it isn't the best view / not really worth the upgrade. Still 5 stars though. Also, I forgot my hat in the room when we left. Called customer service and housekeeping was able to locate the hat and mailed it to me. Superb service! Read less

The Lord Elgin is located in the heart of the Canadian capital, just a minute or two walk from Parliament Hill, the canal and the other downtown sites. Ottawa isn't a large city, and Elgin is well positioned, so you'll be just a few minute's walk from most of the things you'll likely want to see. Sure, it's a business hotel, but it maintains much of its historical charm and its surprisingly reasonably priced. The rooms are lovely, the staff are young and eager to help. If you visit in the summer, make sure to take in the light show on Parliament Hill. It's an interesting and colorful summary of Canadian History, even if it's a tad jingoistic. Our room safe opened from the top, and the design made it far less spacious than most room safes, so you won't have room for a camera or larger laptop. Read less
