We came here to celebrate an anniversary. I wanted to be within walking distance to the Parliament and shopping AND I wanted modern bathrooms and found this place had undergone renovations in recent years. I have always wanted to stay here because I thought it looked like Chateau Laurier which I could not afford. I was not disappointed. The lobby reminds me of old world hotels. Our room was a classic room and it was not big. I loved the modern bathroom with a tiled walk-in shower. It had the clean modern look I wanted. My only discontent with the bathroom was that the glass wall should have been at least a foot or two wider so that the water from the shower would not splash out so easily onto the rest of the bathroom floor. I had written in the comment field during reservations that we were coming in for our anniversary and it was lovely to be "upgraded" to a classic room, but overlooking Confederation Park and Elgin Street. There was also a card propped up on the TV to wish us a happy anniversary. Superb personal touch, thank you! The final thing I loved about this hotel was that they had a $5 "green voucher" for anybody choosing to forego daily housekeeping services. I used our voucher at the Starbucks downstairs on our last day. Lastly, parking at the hotel costs A LOT. If you are willing to walk, you can have free overnight parking underground at the City Hall less than two blocks away. I would definitely come back to the Lord Elgin. This was a wonderful first experience. Read less

The value cannot be beat. The hotel is very nice and the rooms are more than adequate. Service is top notch. The location is awsome. At the begining of Elgin close to all the restaurants and close to the lower town.

The Lord Elgin has ALWAYS been a prime hotel. The location is perfect, especially if you enjoy sightseeing while enjoying a pleasant walk. Parliament Hill is only a five-minute stroll up the street, so if you want to see the summer laser show projected onto the buildings, it is easy to go without worrying about transportation. On July 1st.,Canada Day parades, live shows, and fireworks are there too, and going back to the hotel between events is quick. Remembrance Day parades and touching ceremonies on November 11th. take place at the war memorial across the street! The Farmers’ market is a pleasant walk, as is the Rideau Centre for shopping across the bridge. Boat rides on the canal, and even the world’s longest ice rink on the canal, are there. Now there is a zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink across from the park when the canal is not frozen. We really enjoy Broadway shows and world-class performances across the street at the NAC, National Arts Centre! Sign up online with NAC too to get tickets easily. If you want a taxi, there are some at the front door! Several bus connections line up on the bridge nearby. Naturally, the bedding is top quality, and everything is spotless. Still, what I admire most about this hotel is the quality of the fine people who work there to keep visitors informed, well-fed, comfortable and happy. They simply are a credit to the hotel, and indeed are ambassadors for the great Canadian people in this their capital city. Sign up directly with the hotel to enable access to a VARIETY of special offers and email updates. Besides the AARP/CARP senior rates, their “Cars Stay Free” offer includes parking and an extensive buffet for two. Prices are quoted in Canadian dollars, so Trivago links etc.may be misleading you, so use caution. Read less

Friendly staff, Super clean rooms and easy access to restaurants by foot, I love the treadmill and pool in the morning before I started work. Plenty of towels and water and well maintained facility. Hotel can be pricey but if you choose your dates wisely you can get some great deals.
