Good location and excellent customer service from check in to departure on most of my trips. The rooms are small, with TV and internet service that is sporadic at times. Room service choices were limited, but there is a fridge and a grocery store within walking distance that i was able to get snack and wine much cheaper than through the hotel. Try to get a room on the same side as the main entrance as that had the best view of all the rooms I had. The fitness are is small as is the pool and the jacuzzi only worked on one of my trips. The hotel itself was nice and also clean. The rooms were ok in size. The bathrooms were small and lacking counter space. Had one meal in the restaurant which was less than satisfactory. Staff was very pleasant.

The service here was top notch. Maybe because I arrived at low season but we felt like we were the only ones to be served. Service was prompt and professional but it did not feel forced. Gordon at the valet service was exceptionally good, making sure we came and left with a smile each time. The rooms were nice, spacious, good views and clean.… Read more

Gordon at the valet service was exceptionally good, making sure we came and left with a smile each time. The rooms were nice, spacious, good views and clean. Prices for the rooms were appropriate for the level of hotel, I would just include breakfast in the price if I was the hotel management (The buffet section). Pool was very nice, definitely a step back in history and well maintained for such a historic building. We will be back without hesitation. Read less

We had a 3 night stay, 2 queen beds, ok, bathroom small not enough room on the only hook available to hang 2 towels after showering, we had to hang one on a trouser hanger to dry. They don't change towels unless thrown on the floor. Soap is still bar soap which sitting in a bowl goes soft in the shower its sits in a basket, we had a rubber… Read more
We had a 3 night stay, 2 queen beds, ok, bathroom small not enough room on the only hook available to hang 2 towels after showering, we had to hang one on a trouser hanger to dry. They don't change towels unless thrown on the floor. Soap is still bar soap which sitting in a bowl goes soft in the shower its sits in a basket, we had a rubber mat down so as not to slip, as the shower was at one end and you had to freeze to get it going. The air conditioning was very noisey as though something didn't fit correctly. I know it's a old building but feel though it has a big desk on arrival and people to take your bags this is all I could see that was helpful. We had dinner the first night in their dining room, which has a roarcous bar at the front of it and as night progressed got louder, not a nice dining experience, certainly not a fine dining experience. Waiteress seemed in a hurry, we asked for water NO ICE one ordinary and one bottle of sparkling water, she came back with 2 glasses water with ice, took back one glass we asked agian for a bottle of sparkling. Came back with a glass she had gassed but so poorly it barely had 3 bubbles in it. Did they not sell it or think we could not afford to pay for it?? She knew we were not Canadians. Kept asking if we were ready to order, after 3 asks we did order, mine was fish and chips fish very battered who knows what the fish was and chips galore not really nice either, a salad of a 3 yr olds palm size. My daughter ordered salad and something she wasn't too impressed either, dessert we missed as a poor selection. For a hotel in the heart of Ottawa this is a poor reflection. I am sure they do have. Weddings and conventions has a lot of business people staying there, maybe they don't eat there just sleep. We don't live in Canada so won't comment on weddings or conventions. Am sure it is an old heritage hotel. Read less

I am a seasoned traveler (40+ years) who has been everywhere in the world. During that time I’ve stayed in every type of hotel you can imagine. Based on my experience, the Lord Elgin is definitely a place you want to stay! Every positive thing you read in these reviews (I read a bunch of them) is true, with the best being “excellent value for the money”. This is a five star hotel without the excessive high price. You’ll get a great room, central location, tons of restaurants nearby, nice pool & spa area - you name it. I don’t think you will be disappointed. In addition to the above - and by far and away the best attribute of this hotel - is the service, which started with Christopher at the front desk. He went completely out of his way, without being asked, to accommodate me every way he could. He is the epitome of “customer service”, and is an outstanding reflection of how the Lord Elgin treats its guests. I think you’ll find the same with every employee of the hotel - I did. The best way to have a truly outstanding visit to Ottawa is by starting out at the Lord Elgin. I wouldn’t even consider staying anywhere else. Read less
