Hotel Le Germain Quebec

Quebec City, Canada

The hotel

Coolly contemporary and yet utterly classic, Le Germain Québec resides in a century old building in the city’s Old Port district. They’ve preserved the hotel’s historic shell, nurturing its stonework and original carpentry to create a space sympathetic with its surroundings, but they’ve filled it with slick mod-cons from the 24-hour fitness hub to your guestroom’s Nespresso® coffee machine and Bose® stereo system. They’ve adorned it with a masculine monochromatic décor that transports you from your historic setting to the modern world the moment you step inside. Little extras like complimentary WiFi access and free deluxe Continental breakfasts turn it from a hotel into a home, while spaces like the patio — a secret garden giving you an intimate spot for drinks — turn it into somewhere truly unique.

We very much appreciated the restaurant recommendations and reservations made by the concierge. The varied cuisine was definitely a highlight of our stay in Quebec. Read less

Had an amazing time. Staff were great, the room exceeded outlet expectations and the hotel unbelievably accommodating. Location is perfect, close to the old city, and surrounding restaurants and shops are great.

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) spent 4 nights here in late December as part of our first ever visit to Quebec City. We chose Le Germain because we wanted a boutique hotel and it did not disappoint. The location is in the lower city in the quieter part of town but within easy walking distance of the important sights. After being in the upper city with the crowds, it was nice to walk back to the hotel and leave everybody behind. We drove there from New England, and parking was easy right behind the hotel (valet lot) with easy access to our car. Everyone in the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly. The front desk staff all spoke perfect English and our only language issue was with housekeeping where we were unable to get our kid's room cleaned one day due to a confusion (the kids were going to leave the room, but housekeeping assumed they didn't want the room cleaned and left). Housekeeping was good, although our rooms were cleaned later than we are used to (3pm or so) and twice we returned back to our room after a long time out to find housekeeping just arriving. The rooms were both very nice. They were modern yet comfortable. We were on the fourth floor. Our kids had a view of the parking lot, but we faced the old city. I would suggest no lower than the fourth floor if you prefer a nice view. The bed was comfortable and the room had all the necessary amenities. Both rooms were dark, however, and the lighting didn't improve things very much. In the evening, the rooms took on more of a cave quality than I would have liked. Breakfast was good. It is down in the main area as a buffet (7am to 11am). Seating was tough at times but we managed to find it most days. The re-stocking of the food tended to be a bit slow (had to wait each day for something), but the selection was good and we never thought of eating breakfast out. We had room service dinner our first night due to arriving in the evening. The food was good, although our teens would have preferred a bit of a more traditional menu. In the evening, you can sit in the common area and get drinks (the front desk staff are also the bartenders). That was nice and there was a fireplace too but we never managed to get the seating near it. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Le Germain (and Quebec City) and would definitely stay there again when we return (which we most certainly will do). Read less

Hotel Le Germaine is a splendid hotel! Combining elegance, luxury and comfort is often hard to manage but this wonderful hotel does that with aplomb! The hotel is warm and welcoming with staff available to attend to your every need. The staff goes above and beyond to be helpful, friendly and accommodating in every way and are on 24/7. Antoine, the concierge is really fantastic and will do anything possible to make your stay exactly what you want. Perhaps the most truly delightful and friendly human we have ever encountered in a hotel in many years of travel. The hotel is lucky to have such dedicated staff. Excellent location, you can walk just about anywhere from the hotel or take an Uber or Cab. The Museum of Civilization is next door, Funicular a few blocks away, loads of shopping close by and plenty of good art galleries. There are many excellent restaurants in the surrounding one or two blocks of the hotel. The hotel does not have a restaurant but does serve a great breakfast with tons of variety including quiche or meat pie, cheeses, meats, beautiful breads and lots more. Their bar is especially charming for a hotel. Sit anywhere in there beautiful public areas, or in front of the fireplace and staff will come round asking what they can get you as a cocktail. My husband, adult daughter, and I stayed here for a week during Christmas. It was just perfect! Thank you so much, we will be back. Read less

Very nice, well located hotel. Within walking distance of all the main attractions. Good sized room with comfortable beds and pillows. Right across the street from a wonderful bakery. I highly recommend this hotel
