Hotel Le Germain Quebec

Quebec City, Canada

The hotel

Coolly contemporary and yet utterly classic, Le Germain Québec resides in a century old building in the city’s Old Port district. They’ve preserved the hotel’s historic shell, nurturing its stonework and original carpentry to create a space sympathetic with its surroundings, but they’ve filled it with slick mod-cons from the 24-hour fitness hub to your guestroom’s Nespresso® coffee machine and Bose® stereo system. They’ve adorned it with a masculine monochromatic décor that transports you from your historic setting to the modern world the moment you step inside. Little extras like complimentary WiFi access and free deluxe Continental breakfasts turn it from a hotel into a home, while spaces like the patio — a secret garden giving you an intimate spot for drinks — turn it into somewhere truly unique.

Our stay was so pleasant from beginning to end. The entire staff worked well together and served our needs in most satisfactory fashion. The hotel was quiet and comfortable, but once outside the front door, we had easy access on foot to the old city. In fact, our room had a beautiful view of the old ramparts as well as the modern port. Though the hotel does not have a restaurant, it does have copious offerings in each morning’s breakfast buffet. (Be prepared to spoil yourself with all manner of fresh, local goodies!) And as for dinner, there is absolutely no shortage of wonderful restaurants in the vicinity; and the concierge is ‘au courant’ on all the places from simple to elegant and will gladly make reservations for you. If you enjoy lovely surroundings with unfussy, unpretentious service, you would do well to consider Le Germain. Read less

We stayed here recently and enjoyed the location and great staff. The small breakfast could use some more meat sections. Also the smokers will go out side in the parking lot and smoke stinking up the beautiful outdoor seating area for breakfast. They should make a designated smoking area away from the patio. I also had a toilet seat that would not say up in my room and didn't have a soft closer on it. I would stay here again though. Read less

We booked directly and they included a very nice continental breakfast in the price. One of the best perks of staying here is the Lexus. If available it can be used by anyone staying here. We were fortunate enough to use it the day of check in. We left our bags and took off in their car to visit the falls and check out the town. The location is perfect for getting to the Hop on/off bus, the museum of civilization and to the pier if cruising, many wonderful shops and restaurants. The room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed and linens. They even allowed us extra time past regular check out since we were leaving by train. I would give them a 10 Star if possible. Seldom do I describe a hotel as perfect, but Le Germain is about as close as it gets. I agree with the other reviewers who uniformly heap praise on this stylish and comfortable boutique hotel. Located on the edge of the old city, it is away from the tourist hustle and bustle but an easy walk up the hill to all the shops, historic sights and charm of the old city. It is located in a nice neighborhood, close to multiple restaurants, next door to the Museum of Civilization. The public areas are comfortable, decorated tastefully. The complimentary breakfast has a variety of dishes and the outdoor seating area is very pleasant. The adjacent parking lot provided easy access to our car. Our room was spacious, stylishly furnished, lots of lighting and electrical outlets, two showers and very comfortable bed. Our room was very quiet. The fitness room was on the small side, but adequate. I went for a run on the bike trail along the river that was steps away from the hotel. Service was gracious and helpful, recommending activities and restaurants. Almost all the guests we saw during our stay were adults who seemed to appreciate being in a classy, tranquil (but not stuffy) environment. In short, we loved the hotel and it contributed to a memorable first visit to Quebec City. Read less
