Marriott Quebec City Downtown

Quebec City, Canada

The hotel

Promising that French ‘je ne sais quoi’, this downtown hotel is totally in keeping with Quebec’s unique French-Canadian mélange. Once you step inside, its elegant lobby would be at home in a sleek Parisian boutique hotel — while the simply dressed guestrooms come with mod-cons befitting a contemporary pad in one of east coast Canada’s most dynamic cities. The dining is just as diverse, with breakfasts featuring Canadian, American and Continental options — while its signature dining venue, Que Sera Sera, lives up to its name with a French bistro-inspired menu. Its location puts you in touch with the city’s French and Canadian roots too, right by Place d’Youville, Quebec City Marriott Downtown is just steps from Porte Saint-Jean, one of the historic and much-photographed gateways to quirky but charming Old Québec.

Everybody at the front desk was great, but the Dominican girl (sorry I forgot her name) went the extra mile with us. The Concierge Team, without exception, was super!. Pascal worked with us through emails and phone calls scheduling our tours before we arrived, thanks Pascal!. The room size was acceptable to us, but it lacks storage space, necessary during the winter season when bulky clothes is a must. The bathroom with an excellent shower was a plus. We did not use the restaurant because there are so many different/unique choices in town worthy to try. Thank you very much! Read less

Overall we had a very nice stay. the hotel is located at the foot of the Old City and all of the charm it offers. Service was excellent from the valet, concierge, front desk staff and restaurant servers (specific thanks to Ariann and Roxanne, great job!). We didn't dine in the restaurant as there was never more than one table of diners whenever we walked by during dinner hours. This isn't surprising however, considering the wide variety of excellent restaurants literally steps away. That being said, there are a couple of areas that can be improved, one of them easily, the other not so much. The breakfast, while not bad, was a very typical Marriott banner hotel breakfast. The continental was included in our room rate, but the hotel charged a $7 supplement for the hot options. The hot options definitely didn't warrant a supplemental charge. For a city/neighbourhood that clearly takes pride in their food, the breakfast was definitely sub-standard. This location ought to embrace their Quebecois roots and serve some local delicacies as well (and some fresh, not frozen, potatoes would also be an improvement). When perusing the a la carte menu I also noticed the difference between the continental and hot buffet breakfast was $6, not the $7 charged to guests entitled to the gratis breakfast. This smacks of nickle and diming and likely doesn't add much to the property's annual bottom line. Worth a rethink. The bigger issue however lies with the sound/climate insulation with the room windows. The floors in the room (non-carpeted) were always cold, regulating the room temperature was extremely difficult (I set the thermostat at 26 most of the time, which is ridiculously high), and the temperature "sweet spot" seemed non-existent. Also, the road noise was incredibly intrusive. We could hear the regular traffic as well as the snow plows going by as though the windows were open. This traffic also is a constant because the hotel is on a major city thoroughfare. I urge management to go stand in room 413 at any hour of the day and listen for themselves. When constructing hotels the sound and climate insulating properties of the windows ought to be of paramount importance. For a hotel group that has extensive experience in the industry, it seems that Urgo Hotels really dropped the ball here. When considering staying at this property bear this in mind, if there are any people with noise sensitivities in your group, they will definitely be effected. Otherwise this hotel is a fantastic option for a Quebec City stay. Read less

While I didn't have an opportunity to meet Pascal in person, we were introduced over the phone and he was more than helpful. He recommended restaurants that were vegetarian friendly and unique activities that we never would have found ourselves. His expertise contributed to our amazing time in Quebec City - we will definitely be back!! Read less

Great location just on the edge of Old Quebec at the end of St. Jean and all the best shopping/restaurant area. Skating rink across the street in the winter. Coffee shop next doors. Super renovations. Quiet. Decent breakfast downstairs but not far are great options. Paid public parking next door but valet in/out privileges only a few dollars more.… Read more

We had a great time in Quebec City in 2019. The concierge was extremely helpful and friendly, just ask for Kevin. The restaurant staff were also great and helpful. The Marriott also has a great location. It is close to old town Quebec as well as the rest of districts.
