First thing first: this is no longer the Hills health ranch so people need to stop comparing it to that. First thing first: this is no longer the Hills health ranch so people need to stop comparing it to that. At $189/night for a 3 bedroom cabin with breakfast included, you have to have realistic expectations. This was our second time and once again the whole family had a great time. Is there room for improvement? Of course there is but I would go again in a heart beat. Our cabin was nice and comfortable (with all the amenities that you would expect plus our own wifi). It could have been a little cleaner (under the couch and stuff) but nothing major (the main stuff was clean: beds, bathroom, etc). The breakfast was good and the host was very friendly, you can really tell that he will do what he can to make your stay pleasant. We went cross country skiing in nicely groomed trails on a beautiful day and we also went tubing.... that was awesome! I wished that the tow rope would have worked but I was told it would be fixed soon. The pool/hot tub facility is really nice. We also tried their all you can eat sushi. The food was good with a good variety but we don’t have appetites that justify the price ($25/person). If you can eat a lot, go for the all you can eat. If you are like us, ordering from the menu would have been better choice. The ghost of what this place once was is a big issue for this resort but there is so much potential (it just need some investments). It would be a great family oriented type of resort. Overall a great experience. Read less

We had 10 people at Spruce Hills for 4 days and 3 nights. It was awesome-rooms were updated this year, ski trails were nicely groomed, tube run groomed. Hot tubs and pools a great touch for apres ski. Owner Cam is a gracious host and gave us a room to play games. Can't say enough good, a wonderful winter retreat.

We spend a lot of time in hotels, family trips, hockey tournaments, little weekend escapes and generally speaking are fairly easy to please, this place is definitely not what it advertises. Upon arriving the entry and road up to the resort are pretty, a solid wood archway and a big red barn with beautiful horses greets, the reception and lobby are quite impressive a sign that at some point this "resort & spa" was just that however it is now quite run down outside of that building. We stayed in a cabin, large 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen and living area, with 2 decks off the back a great size for families. It was however unkept, I'm positive hadn't been vacuumed prior to our stay and if so they need a new one, dirty face cloth found in the bathroom, garbage under the bed. Just generally not what I expect when paying for a room/suite at any establishment. It was roughly between 0 degrees to -10 during our stay and only half of the baseboard heaters worked in our cabin, when we arrived for our reservation late at night the heat was off and windows were all cracked. It took us 24hrs to heat the cabin to a liveable temp for our little kids, we spend the first 24 in hoodies and socks. The views are beautiful and the resort is in a peaceful location just out of town, there is a restaurant and the pizza was alright, we only ate one meal there, cooked a bit in our cabin and ate out in 100 Mile. The pool is awesome, 2 hot tubs and a dry sauna in both women's and men's change room. Unfortunately hubby and I couldn't go in together as they're segregated by gender. The kids loved the pool and we were thankful that it was warm and welcoming. The downside was they had no towels for the pool. None. So you have to bring the towels from your cabin (which never were washed or replaced during our 3 night stay) to the pool and back to your room to dry them out to use again and again. We didn't see housekeeping in our cabin at all during our 3 night stay, not sure if that's the standard or if they just don't have the staff. Tubing... Soo we booked this "resort" as a hockey team to enjoy the tubing they offer only to find upon arrival that it was closed and Infact never opened at all this winter. To say we were disappointed is an understatement, this should be updated on their website, if nothing else when booking over the phone the owner/manager should have made this clear to us. It's definitely a big reason we booked this place, a large chunk of rooms/cabins. The front desk woman did offer to let us use the tubes for free when I inquired however we had to walk them back up the tubing hill instead of using the tow rope as it wasn't working. The "spa" doesn't exist and should also be taken off the website and any info for the hotel. The website information definitely needs a update... Most of the things I was able to find online I know now are quite old after visiting the resort, it is a bit of a ghost town. Plenty of potential but definitely needs an overhaul and some cash pumped into it! Let's hope they can do better. Read less

Excellent location, rustic accommodation, gorgeous views, 2 hot tubs and a large well heated pool. Everything is well laid out with a restaurant on site and friendly, accomodating staff. Gorgeous stone work and upgraded rooms just like you’d see in Banff but for a more reasonable, NON BANFF price! You dont want to come here for the appointments in the rooms or the service (YET) but it has lots of potential and I will come back at Christmas for the tube rides and groomed trails. Read less
