I knew that there might be issues here when we went to check in at the lobby. I knew that there might be issues here when we went to check in at the lobby. The christmas decorative paint on the windows hadn't been cleaned off yet (it's June) and all the lights in the lobby were off except at the reception desk. This is an older property, that needs updating. And I can live with old and tired, if it's sparkling clean, but the room hadn't been prepared properly. There was no bathroom tissue, the coffee pot had old coffee and a used filter pack in it. The vinyl floor had visible spill marks and the mirrored closet door had finger prints all over it. In addition, as a result of the serious shortage of plugs in the room we had to pull out the bed away from the wall to find a place for a cpap machine to plug in and we found lots of dust and a coffee cup. So no thorough cleaning. As noted it's an older building, and it's got issues. The exterior ceiling over the exterior deck was finished with drywall, which over time is absorbing moisture and is starting to fall down, it looks awful. The bug screen on the window isn't the right size and was made to stay in place by wood screws inserted at angles into the aluminum window frame. Initially there was a half inch gap either at the bottom or top, but a bit of finagling, got the frame to stay tight against the window. As I also noted electrical outlets are few and far between, but that's old tech, but the hallway to our room was the darkest hallway I think I've ever been in. It seriously needs improved lighting. Lastly there were a few largish ants that showed up in our bathroom which was the clinching reason for checking out a day sooner than we had planned. Lastly, none of the services advertised were available. The restaurant was closed, and none of the advertised services were available. They seem to have opened up after the shut-down without any kind of plan. Also the hotel doesn't seem to be meeting the legal requirements of posting fire plans on the doors, nor have they followed the innkeepers act: "5 (1)Every innkeeper must keep conspicuously posted in the office and public rooms and in every bedroom in the inn a copy of section 3, printed in plain type." Not a well managed facility and one to avoid... Read less

First thing first: this is no longer the Hills health ranch so people need to stop comparing it to that. First thing first: this is no longer the Hills health ranch so people need to stop comparing it to that. At $189/night for a 3 bedroom cabin with breakfast included, you have to have realistic expectations. This was our second time and once again the whole family had a great time. Is there room for improvement? Of course there is but I would go again in a heart beat. Our cabin was nice and comfortable (with all the amenities that you would expect plus our own wifi). It could have been a little cleaner (under the couch and stuff) but nothing major (the main stuff was clean: beds, bathroom, etc). The breakfast was good and the host was very friendly, you can really tell that he will do what he can to make your stay pleasant. We went cross country skiing in nicely groomed trails on a beautiful day and we also went tubing.... that was awesome! I wished that the tow rope would have worked but I was told it would be fixed soon. The pool/hot tub facility is really nice. We also tried their all you can eat sushi. The food was good with a good variety but we don’t have appetites that justify the price ($25/person). If you can eat a lot, go for the all you can eat. If you are like us, ordering from the menu would have been better choice. The ghost of what this place once was is a big issue for this resort but there is so much potential (it just need some investments). It would be a great family oriented type of resort. Overall a great experience. Read less

We had 10 people at Spruce Hills for 4 days and 3 nights. It was awesome-rooms were updated this year, ski trails were nicely groomed, tube run groomed. Hot tubs and pools a great touch for apres ski. Owner Cam is a gracious host and gave us a room to play games. Can't say enough good, a wonderful winter retreat.
