Deerhurst Resort

Rural Ontario, Canada

The hotel

Some things stay constant at Deerhurst Resort — like the idyllic setting on the shore of Peninsula Lake in Ontario’s ‘cottage country’ — but others change with the seasons. In summer you could be swimming in the outdoor pools, kayaking on the lake, or taking on the challenge of the inflatable Splash Zone water park. While, come winter, you could be using the hotel’s free cross country ski equipment, snowshoes, or ice skates to enjoy the snow-inspired fun on its very doorstep. Whatever time of year you stay, you can enjoy its location minutes from downtown Huntsville; its Amba Spa; its free Indoor Treehouse Playspace; its pool room — complete with pool, children’s wading pool, and hot tub; and the ‘eat local’ foodie experiences at its dining venues, whose menus even feature shitake mushrooms, honey, and maple syrup right from Deerhurst.

Unfortunately, the rooms in the main building have maintenance issues and are in need of updating. The hairdryer in our room was faulty and singed my hair. This aside, I appreciated that the resort is pet-friendly and we could bring our dog with us. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The food at the Compass Grill & Bar was okay. Small portions, with a long wait time when they were not busy. Liked that they featured local craft beers and had a good server. Could be a great resort with some updating. Read less

Having a very high expectation of staying at Deerhurst we were quite disappointed. We were there in October so not in season to enjoy the seasonal activities. The grounds look like it would be great in the summer. Our unit was in need of maintenance, painting and repair of peeling wallpaper. The fireplace was a nice feature but would not turn on. The staff were wonderful and restaurants very good if a bit pricey. We enjoyed the bonfire outside of the pub on Saturday night but were surprised to see glasses not cleaned up the next day, nor the following. The biggest disappointment was when we first arrived at our room. It was located on the ground floor of a building which had a large central common area that was hosting a convention event. There was a large party going on not only in the common area but throughout the building as members were going from room to room. There was a second event in the same area the next day but not as boisterous. All in all the stay was "okay" and the area is beautiful. It was just not up to what we had expected given the reputation of Deerhurst Read less

We were blown away by how spacious and bright the space was; the balcony views were amazing! We had a powder room, full-bathroom, kitchen, huge dining room table, fire-place, living room, tv, balcony with a patio table and chairs, and the best part: a king-size bed and a whirlpool tub in the bedroom! They offer canoeing in the summer and have a fantastic indoor play area. A great option if you're planning on visiting Algonquin Park. Read less

Great resort! Loved the rooms and found the resort very well maintained. We booked well in advance and the resort was unable to accommodate having all three rooms in the same common house. Wish there was a restaurant geared for the kids. The pool was very quiet and no life guards on duty. Overall a great visit!

We came to this beautiful resort for a lovely wedding. The decor is fabulous and can’t wait to come back. Samantha, Justine and Quinn are the best servers! They gave the best service I’ve had in a long time. Our drinks were always full, offered water with every few alcoholic beverages and food was hot. They were on top of everything, anything we needed they were always accessible and quick to meet our needs. Housekeeping was quick to bring what we needed that wasn’t already in the room. Rooms were very clean and the beds were comfy. We had the best views from every window (3 bedroom condo style suite) overlooking beautifully groomed yards. The bathtubs were very luxurious and deep. Overall a fantastic experience. Read less
