Deerhurst Resort

Rural Ontario, Canada

The hotel

Some things stay constant at Deerhurst Resort — like the idyllic setting on the shore of Peninsula Lake in Ontario’s ‘cottage country’ — but others change with the seasons. In summer you could be swimming in the outdoor pools, kayaking on the lake, or taking on the challenge of the inflatable Splash Zone water park. While, come winter, you could be using the hotel’s free cross country ski equipment, snowshoes, or ice skates to enjoy the snow-inspired fun on its very doorstep. Whatever time of year you stay, you can enjoy its location minutes from downtown Huntsville; its Amba Spa; its free Indoor Treehouse Playspace; its pool room — complete with pool, children’s wading pool, and hot tub; and the ‘eat local’ foodie experiences at its dining venues, whose menus even feature shitake mushrooms, honey, and maple syrup right from Deerhurst.

Amazing location nearby the lake. Breakfast buffet not good: little choice, service can be improved as well, food not fresh neither tasty. We got a room in the new lakeside building, suggest to separate the beds in the two rooms (4 beds/people in 1 room is too much). Hard process to participate to the water activities.

Overall, we liked the resort very much, especially the use of the kayaks, water boards and the water park. We had a lot of fun. We also enjoyed the view from our room of the lake. We hiked some and enjoyed exploring the resort. I wish the food was better, especially breakfast. The food is expensive and we were hoping it would be more tasty. For example my eggs were overcooked and my whole meal was not hot when it arrived and it was not that busy. We also thought there would be campfires for the guests at night but they only had it for little kids at 6pm ish. Not all activities were occurring each day so we missed some we wanted to do. But the water park was a lot of fun and being in the lake was great! Read less

Our first visit to Deerhurst was really pleasant, food was good, young eager staff were great, but the resort, unfortunately, isn’t very clean. Our room (407) had heavy dust on the cupboard shelf, there were damp towels on the rack and the wastebasket didn’t have a liner - not too sanitary. The toilet didn’t flush properly. In the gym, there were sweat stains on the equipment, and crumpled newspaper in the corner. The towels for the pool have seen better days. On the grounds, there were empty beer cans and trash here and there. I think, with some more cleaning staff and better training, these issues could be solved. They just took the edge off what could have been an excellent couple of days. Read less

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the deerhurst. Everything was well run and easy for us with a 3 year old to relax. What impressed us the most was the staff. Everyone was very helpful and polite. They went out of there way to help us before we could even ask. We can’t wait to return !

The resort is kid friendly and has great water activities and recreational activities for everyone. The staff is wonderful. The dining experience is good but a little on the pricey end. Overall great place to visit and create lasting memories
