Arrive at beautiful Sonora Island by helicopter or water taxi and prepare to have your breath taken away. Sonora Resort is in a fantastic location to appreciate the natural surroundings. Towering pine trees, plentiful rivers and lakes form the backdrop for your adventures — and there are plenty of ways to explore. Optional activities include guided eco-boat tours, excursions to see Grizzly bears, kayaking, rafting and hiking in the coastal rainforest.



Sonora Island is located within British Columbia’s cluster of Discovery Islands. Accessible by helicopter* from Vancouver or water taxi* from Campbell River only.

88 rooms. Gold Rooms showcase views of the Yuculta Rapids and mountain ranges beyond. Each unique, spacious room comes equipped with a gas fireplace, goose down duvet and pillows and a luxurious soaker tub. Rooms connect to lavish common lounges with stone fireplaces, garden patio or rooftop hot tubs.

Day 1: Sonora Resort

Your adventure into the wilds of British Columbia starts with your arrival by helicopter / seaplane from Vancouver or by water taxi from Campbell River. Get checked in and relax for a time before enjoying a dinner prepared with local ingredients and infused with tastes of the Old and New Worlds. Perhaps take some time to consult with the hotel staff as to what activities are planned for tomorrow. Spend the next 2 nights at Sonora Resort. (D)

Day 2: Sonora Resort

Included today is a guided 1-hour nature eco-tour on board an 8.53 metre Zodiac boat accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide. On this extraordinary tour, you will receive a fascinating commentary while viewing wildlife in its natural habitat. The rest of the day you are free to enjoy the many facilities and optional excursions available to all guests of the resort. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, swimming, archery lessons* and tennis throughout their stay. Other activities include golf*, whale watching*, spa treatments*, salmon fishing trips* or guided bear watching trips* (all of which can be prebooked at the time of booking). In the evening, sit down to a gourmet dinner and sip a fine wine or mingle with other guests in one of the lounges or games room. (B/L/D)

Day 3: Depart Sonora Resort

Today after breakfast, perhaps take some time to independently explore the area around the resort. Or, arrange to try your hand at fishing for pacific salmon on one of the shorter morning tours (at additional cost). Enjoy a delicious lunch before departing the resort for your journey back to Vancouver or Campbell River. (B/L)

Pre/Post Tour information

If you would like to extend your trip or make the tour part of a longer holiday, we can easily add on a pre or post night stays for you. Our Sales Team will work with you to arrange the best connecting flights and book any additional hotel stays. Simply tell us what you’d like and we can arrange it.

Tour inclusions

  • Accommodation for 2 nights at Sonora Resort (Gold Room)
  • Meals: full board starting with dinner on day 1 and ending with lunch on day 3 Soft and alcoholic drinks
  • Day 2: Eco-nature tour by boat
  • Supplied clothing and equipment: good quality light and heavy rain and windproof outer layers, rubber boots and umbrella
  • Use of resort facilities: tennis courts, outdoor pool, exercise equipment, hiking trails, movie theatre, golf simulator, stocked trout pond with fishing tackle, archery lessons
  • Provincial taxes and federal GST and/or HST

Tour exclusions

  • International flight in economy class, including all UK and overseas airport taxes and applicable fuel surcharges
  • Flight upgrades and airport transfers in the UK
  • Insurance
  • Airport transfer upon arrival and departure
  • Transportation too and from the resort
  • Meals and attractions unless otherwise specified
  • Items of a personal nature such as drinks, laundry, tips and gratuities, video camera fees at monuments
  • The required Canada Electronic Authorization (eTA)
  • Anything not detailed on the itinerary

Visa requirements

Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA)

Visitors travelling to or transiting through Canada by air are now expected to get an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) to enter Canada. If you’re arriving into Canada by air from either the UK or another destination e.g. the USA, you’ll need an eTA. This costs CA$7 and lasts for 5 years or until your passport expires, whichever is first. If you’re travelling by land or sea, you won’t need an eTA when you enter Canada. However, you must travel with acceptable travel documents and identification, i.e. your passport.
