Visit the Great Bear Rainforest and explore the natural habitat of the Spirit Bear and home of the world’s only Kitasoo Spirit Bear Conservancy. Enjoy guided tours in the ancestral lands and traditional territory of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation as well as grizzly bear and marine wildlife viewing.



Nestled in a wild and remote area of the Pacific Northwest, in Klemtu, B.C.’s Great Bear Rainforest. Includes return flights between Vancouver South Terminal and Bella Bella, and water taxi transfers between Bella Bella dock and Spirit Bear Lodge.

12 guest rooms are private and comfortable, with either 1 king-size or 2 twin beds, private bathroom and views of the ocean and rainforest.

DAY 1: Arrive at Spirit Bear Lodge

Depart Vancouver South Terminal on Pacific Coastal Airlines scheduled service flight to Bella Bella where you are met and assisted with a van transfer to the Bella Bella town docks. The Spirit Bear Lodge water taxi will pick you up at the dock at for the scenic 90-minute boat ride to Klemtu and Spirit Bear Lodge for an afternoon arrival. After checking in and receiving a welcome orientation, the remainder of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the amenities of the lodge until dinner at 7:00pm and the evening presentation at 8:00pm about the local coastal ecology. Learn about the seasons and behaviours of the famous local animal residents of the forest. In the ‘spring’ season of June, sedge grasses are irresistible to grizzly bear mothers and their cubs. Spotting Spirit Bears can be harder at this time until the salmon begin to run in the local streams in August, attracting them with great frequency. Spring is also a prime time for humpback whale viewing as they forage in the local waters for krill, herring and mackerel. (D)

DAY 2:

After breakfast, meet on the dock at 8:00am for the first full day bear viewing adventure at one of the main grizzly viewing estuaries, and see the spectacular waterfalls. Return by 6:00pm for a buffet dinner at 7:00pm, followed by evening presentation on aspects of Great Bear Rainforest, Bears or First Nations culture. (B/L/D)

DAY 3:

After breakfast at 7:00am, depart the lodge at 8:00am for a full day of Spirit Bear watching by boat and foot. Your guide reveals the best viewing areas for the local bears and giving you another opportunity to see the elusive creatures. Return to the lodge by 6:00pm for dinner and evening programme. (B/L/D)

DAY 4:

After breakfast, guests booked on 3-night packages have a choice of guided excursions including a rainforest walk, a black bear tracking tour or a cultural tour. With a packed lunch, you board the water taxi at 11:00am for the 90-minute trip to Bella Bella, arriving in time to take a Pacific Coastal Airlines afternoon flight back to Vancouver. You arrive in at Vancouver South Terminal where your package comes to an end. (B/L)

Meals: Full board including snacks starting with dinner on day 1 and ending with lunch on the last day. Includes table wine with dinner.

Visa requirements

Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA)

Visitors travelling to or transiting through Canada by air are now expected to get an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) to enter Canada. If you’re arriving into Canada by air from either the UK or another destination e.g. the USA, you’ll need an eTA. This costs CA$7 and lasts for 5 years or until your passport expires, whichever is first. If you’re travelling by land or sea, you won’t need an eTA when you enter Canada. However, you must travel with acceptable travel documents and identification, i.e. your passport.
