Prestige Oceanfront Resort

Sooke, Vancouver Island

The hotel

Proud and stately, Prestige Oceanfront Resort is no retiring wallflower, welcoming you with its ostentatious columns, grand balconies, waterside setting, and elegant lounge filled with plush furnishings and a glitzy chandelier. Its equally decadent waterfront patio is decked out with fire pits, so you can sit out long into the evening and enjoy the hotel’s views, which stretch out over Sooke Harbour, Sooke Basin, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. To go with hotel essentials like complimentary WiFi access and a 24-hour fitness centre, they’ve laid on an indoor pool and hot tub; the suitably indulgent Le Sooke Spa; complimentary sightseeing treats like bike hire and beach toys; and two dining options — the chic West Coast Grill and the sports-themed Vault Lounge, with its gourmet pub grub menu.

1: Having stayed at the hotel before, we really enjoyed the bar and looked fprward to spending Christmas Eve there. We had reservations in the dining room for Christmas Dinner but cancelled a similar reservation for Christmas Eve because of our anticipated enjoyment and the fact that the web site appeared to suggest that the bar was open. We arrived and found that the bar was closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We were misled by the web site and we should have been advised of any closures when we made the reservation. 2. My wife has a bad hip condition and is currently mostly in a wheelchair. Soaking and exercising in a hot tub is beneficial, so we anticipated making a lot of use of the hot tub. However, we discovered that handicapped access was nigh on impossible. Two heavy doors to get into the changing room and another two heavy and awkwardly aligned doors to get from the chaniging room to the pool - utterly impossible for a woman in a wheelchair to navigate. I had to take her through the men's changing room to gain access and even for me, it was difficult to manage the doors and the wheelchair at the same time. As a result we only used the pool/hot tub once in a three day stay, which did not help my wife's pain level. This is not an old hotel and not to have automatic door openers for handicapped people is really quite unforgivable. For a hotel of this stature, installing these should be a priority. 3. We like to relax around a pool and read, popping in and out of the pool/hot tub from time to time. While space is limited, there is room for chaises longues but only two regular sit up chairs were there. This was a disappointment. Read less

We have to compliment the restaurant's chef for the food - great experience. On Sundays there was a power outage in Sooke and unfortunately the hotel lost electricity. The team managed this situation calmly and professionally and we felt that they should be recognized for doing an awesome job when life happens. Thank you for a wonderful hospitality. Read less

Went for a 2 night getaway with wife; had a great relaxing stay Will definitely return in the summer with the kids next time; the view from the hotel would be amazing in the summer. Enjoyed Le Sooke Spa couples package as well Only tried West Coast grill which was delicious and had great decor, view and atmosphere; but they also have a small cafe (which looked great with homemade options) and Vault sports bar which we didn’t try. All staff were great especially Natalie, she went above and beyond was able to switch us into another room after my wife had allergy issues WiFi was a bit slow but Netflix ok Tip: weeks before your stay you should register for Prestige rewards and book directly with the hotel (Best western?) to gain points Read less

The West Coast Grill for the most part was great, service varied. The pool area was a huge let down. Tiny pool towels provided but honestly they did little. The hot tub jets didn’t work which allowed you to see how utterly filthy it was. Piles of dirt, rocks and sand made me wonder if anyone ever cleans it. No ventilation in the pool so everything was so steamy. No pool furniture save for two plastic chairs and the change rooms were awful. This is one area that needs a massive upgrade. Read less

Staff in reception, bar and grill were all great. Friendly and good service. Our room was big, clean and had everything we needed. The big let down and the reason I have scored this hotel low was the pool. I have never been in a hotel where the pool was so dirty. So bad in fact I did not get in it. The whole pool area is dark and really needs a refurb. But the pool, hot tub and changing area were very very dirty. There was nowhere to leave belongings and the only furniture by the pool were two plastic chairs and a table all of which had seen better days. The photos on websites for this hotel of the pool area are clearly very old. For a hotel of this standard I would expect better. Read less
