Prestige Oceanfront Resort

Sooke, Vancouver Island

The hotel

Proud and stately, Prestige Oceanfront Resort is no retiring wallflower, welcoming you with its ostentatious columns, grand balconies, waterside setting, and elegant lounge filled with plush furnishings and a glitzy chandelier. Its equally decadent waterfront patio is decked out with fire pits, so you can sit out long into the evening and enjoy the hotel’s views, which stretch out over Sooke Harbour, Sooke Basin, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. To go with hotel essentials like complimentary WiFi access and a 24-hour fitness centre, they’ve laid on an indoor pool and hot tub; the suitably indulgent Le Sooke Spa; complimentary sightseeing treats like bike hire and beach toys; and two dining options — the chic West Coast Grill and the sports-themed Vault Lounge, with its gourmet pub grub menu.

Four of us stopped for happy hour drinks and appetizers. The view is lovely and atmosphere is relaxing. They have placed clear panelling along the inner side of the lower deck railings so it keeps the wind down but the view is not blocked: smart! The facility, including the bathrooms, are very clean and modern. We’ll definitely be back!

Your bartender in the pub from the night we stayed (sorry, I have forgotten the name) was incredibly gracious and patient, despite that, at the time, he had 24--yes--24 customers to attend to, all of whom wanted food as well. I have found that, despite the independent status and mindset of all BW membership fee properties, a consistent scenario in all of them of under-staffing bar and restaurant facilities exists. I do not know why. It is why we often choose Hilton properties (that have F&B) over BW. We personally saw 3 four-tops walk out. There's $350 you never saw. It is also not what I expect of a Premier tier BW. Anyway, the poor man was overwhelmed...just slammed...and service was understandably slow. Due to your hotel's set-up, he had to run across the spacious lobby for each food order and wait for the dumbwaiter, or worse. Those are patently atrocious ergonomics. When he finally asked for mercy, he got a waitress who could not have been of less help to him. Yet, he was pleasant, kind and took that "little extra" minute for us and it was greatly appreciated. Whoever he is, I hope you give him a commendation...and some help, for Pete's sake! The facility? It was a very busy night, we were a late reservation and, let’s face it, all hotels have a few oddball rooms. Our 2 queen was wonderful in every way, except that it was so narrow as to be very cramped. Perhaps it was this particular room, being on an inside corner, off of the main balcony, next to the elevator. However, again, a little too cramped to meet our expectations of a Premier level BW. Maybe the other rooms were better, I don’t know; we had no time for “housecleaning snooping” the next day. Your pet policy is the best we've seen and we...and our 15-year old retired medical service dog...thank you for that. Our journey was a 3-week, 8000 km trip and your pet policy and care won 1st place. Truly stand-out. Thank you. So, overall? Eh (in the American way). Read less

Food and service is good, bartender in the lounge could have been a little more attentive, but the restaurant was excellent. Good food with a nice local flavour. Would go back again for a little longer next time. Two nights wa snot enough. Read less

My husband and I recently attended a five day seminar at this resort hotel along with 28 others. All of us attending were there because we suffer from severe environmental allergies and/or food intolerances/allergies. The staff went out of their way to make sure all of us had a great experience given our challenges. Certain rooms had to be cleaned in a special way that allowed those with breathing problems to tolerate being there. Before we arrived they had us fill out an extensive survey listing foods we could and could not eat. Each one of us was unique in this so the chef had to go to a great deal of trouble to make sure all of us had wonderful meals to eat. This was the first time I'd eaten in a restaurant type setting for years. The food was wonderful and every one of us had full plates of delicious food. Twice I had to ask about some ingredients and the chef immediately came out to work with me. They took the time to call the bakery to get the ingredient list for some rolls that were served. I never felt embarrassed or like I was being a pain putting them through this. This hotel allows this seminar to come several times a year, it is a big undertaking and I wanted to express my appreciation for their willingness to offer us such hospitality, for going the extra mile for all of us with our strange needs, and for doing it all with graciousness and kindness. The setting is gorgeous, the hotel is in tip top shape. So thank you!! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating View of parking lot...dissapointing

We were looking forward to visiting however the view of the parking lot, traffic noise and beeping from backing up trucks ruined this experience. If you aren't guaranteed an oceanview room, skip this place and try something else. Some cleanliness issues in the room and frontdesk team less than helpful. Based on write up and marketing, the bar… Read more
