Hotel Grand Pacific

Victoria, Vancouver Island

The hotel

One of Victoria’s most coveted addresses is just the first of many ‘pluses’ at Hotel Grand Pacific. Even though it skirts the town’s beautiful Inner Harbour, perched by the BC Legislature and Parliament Buildings and 2 blocks from downtown’s dining and shopping scene, they’ve got a collection of city cruiser bikes ready in case you fancy exploring by pedal rather than on foot. Of course, you might prefer to just ‘stay in’ at this romantic chateau-style hotel — and there are plenty of reasons you would. You could soak up the ocean air from your private balcony. You could soak in the sumptuous pool and Jacuzzi at Victoria Athletic Club. You could also sink your teeth into authentic BC delights at its dining outlets, with its West Coast Afternoon Tea giving you the opportunity to experience this Victoria ‘institution’ first hand.

Good location. Only a few blocks from the Clipper Ferry. The harbor is across the street and it's an easy walk to Parliament, the Royal BC Museum, shopping, water tours and restaurants. The staff is genuinely friendly and super attentive. I had a spacious harbor view room that was well appointed with flat screen TV, coffee maker AND a separate tea maker, in room safe, individually controlled thermostat. Liked the call buttons for the maid and Do Not Disturb. Loved the deep soaking bathtub - the hot bubble bath felt great after walking all day. I have fibromyalgia and, to me, the beds were hard as a rock. My friend enjoyed it since she has a bad back but I was in pain. I called Housekeeping around 11pm & asked for an extra pad on the mattress and they surprised me with a 2" foam mattress pad! I'm a luxury hotelier and I have to say this was IMPRESSIVE. The room was comfortable and spotless. The main restaurant serves a very good breakfast. We had dinner there for 3 nights. The menu was creative -they have a good Chef. The Risotto & the Sable Fish on Curried Lentils were particularly delicious. There is also a "Cafe" but it's more of a coffee kiosk that has muffins etc. with a few tables. Starbucks is across the street. There is a nice Italian leather purse shop in the Lobby. We were so tired after walking so much that we asked the Bellman to trolley our bags over to the Clipper Ferry. This very nice guy schleps all our bags over to the Ferry but sadly the Ferry had already left 2 hours earlier! So, he politely hauled our bags back to the hotel and stored them while we tried to figure out what to do. He went BEYOND the call of duty and got the Ferry Schedule from the Concierge discovering we had to overnight. By the time we got back to the hotel he had already alerted the Front Desk about what happened. They were smiling ready with rooms. They even had the Foam pad put on the bed for me. Now THAT is good service. I'll stay here again next time in Victoria. Kudos to this GM and the wonderful staff! Read less

It is easy to see why so many people rate the HGP so highly because it is indeed ideally located, very comfortable and reasonably priced. It is easy to see why so many people rate the HGP so highly because it is indeed ideally located, very comfortable and reasonably priced. The staff are very attentive and by some accounts this is one of the least haunted hotels in Victoria (not that you will find that gem of information in the marketing blurb). But when I compare it to similar hotels I have stayed in at similar prices there are just a few too many niggles to rate it a five. These minor imperfections are probably no more than mosquito bites for most travelers but they buzz in my ear. The rooms are reasonably spacious and the king beds are super comfy but electrical sockets are few and inconveniently placed (I had to boil the kettle on the floor) and there are no USB charging points (minor but annoying when you are operating multiple devices and need everything charged before tomorrows adventures). Likewise the door to the television cabinet doesn't open fully because there is a table in the way - move the table to the right 6 inches and the problem would be solved excepting the fact that you then wouldn't be able to get to the only functional kettle boiling point. Robes but no slippers? It is almost always the other way around and no complimentary bottled water. Not having a vanity mirror is not super high on my list of must haves but the better half thinks otherwise. And finally, crack junkies get better facilities for surviving with their addiction than smokers will get here. I get that in this day and age it is not PC to smoke, or even vape, but having to walk 20 meters out into the rain is truly disrespectful. Little things add up so with hindsight a 4 is generous. From the moment I stepped out of the cab, I was whole-heartedly welcomed to this most wonderful hotel. The entrance, front desk and restaurant staff, the concierge, and the general manager, who I met by chance while dining in the restaurant, made my stay the best I have experienced. The hotel is perfectly located in walking distance to the Parliament, the Royal BC Museum, water taxis and tours, so many fabulous eateries and shopping galore. My room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. I highly recommend the Hotel Grand Pacific! Read less

Great rooms. Excellent service. Perfect location! Our harbour view was amazing. We loved our little balcony to watch all the harbour activity. Was we were still there! I bit pricey but the location is worth it.

The hotel is very well located next to the water, with a walking distance to everything. The rooms and bathrooms are large, beautiful and very well kept. Breakfast is very good. We would love to come back.
