Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver

Vancouver, Canada

The hotel

Standing out with discreet yet decadent touches, Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver feels deliciously different. It’s architectural drama like the curved glass wall sweeping over the heated indoor pool and hot tub. It’s details like the Juliet balcony, luxurious linen, and free WiFi in your deluxe guestroom. It’s unusual extras like the squash court, which pair with essentials like the fitness centre. It’s the divine dining and wine list of Diva at the Met. When you want to explore a little further, you’re just two minutes’ walk from the SkyTrain – that’s if you don’t get distracted by the Pacific Centre mall opposite this downtown hotel.

Good and not so good. The room, bathroom, and furnishings including bed was quite good and clean. Not very large but complaints about the room, I would go back for the room. The rooms - all of them I think - only accommodate 2 people although they can bring in a portable bed for one more person in some rooms. We did not know this when booking through a web site. There was no parking for us available so we had to find out way into some public parking across the street. It was not a big deal after we did it but the check in person did a terrible job explaining any of this to us. Read less

Kettle, tea, fridge, toiletries and all necessities provided. Spacious room, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Love especially the design of the switch which is right by the bed- easy reach. Other facilities available as well. Both elevators working. Free luggage storage and people to help you. Also, what I love is that they offer free printing. Very close to restaurants, malls, pharamacy, metro station, waterfront, post office and walkable to stanley park for stroll. All in all, a nice comfortable stay with nice restaurant and great variety of dishes. Read less

This place should most definitely not be listed as a 4-star hotel. The bedroom that we had booked, a king, was not available, and my boyfriend and I had to stay in 2 twin beds, which were very cheap and uncomfortable. And, there seems to have been no progress in the elevator situation that has been an issue since what seems like July 2019. There is still only one elevator working, which created long wait times and stopped on every floor with people trying to get on. Furniture, carpeting, decor... all very dated and cheap. Looks like their "renovation" is going to last years. The last touch of grossness was the mini fridge in our room. I was going to store our water in there to keep cool, that is until I saw the mold that had accumulated in there. Renovation or not, there is no excuse for this health hazard. See attached picture. I am a Marriott Titanium Platinum and am baffled why Marriott would allow an outdated, deteriorated, dishonest property into their Vancouver offerings. I have stayed at the Marriott Pinnacle, Delta Downtown Suites, and even the Residence Inn on Horby was far better (try making chocolate chip waffles in the morning). 1. At this hotel, however, $45 self parking means if there’s a spot left for you. On my first day, the parking lot was completely full, so the valet took my keys. While I’m not being charged for valet, it’s far less convenient than self parking. I should feel comfortable going in and out without worrying about whether or not I will return to an available spot. 2. The mini-bar fridge was broken in the room, so I informed the front desk. They wheeled in a mini fridge to their credit, but it now takes up half of my sitting space (see photo). 3. Be prepared to wait and wait and wait and wait for an elevator, because there is only one that works for the entire property. Alternatively as the signage suggests (see photo), you are welcome to join the hotel workers, food carts and laundry bins by using the service elevator. 4. The room is just gross. Chips in the bathtub (see photo), dents on the furniture (see photo), different shades of carpeting (see photo). This is a worn out property. Doesn’t feel comfortable or pleasant. The lighting in the room is so dim, probably because they don’t want you to notice its poor condition. And if this is a room they gave a Titanium Platinum, I can’t imagine what the other rooms look like. 5. The staff seem to be trained to deny any upgrade to a suite. At check in, I was told no suites were available, even though I could book two different available suites online. I asked if I should try tomorrow, the guy checking me in tells me to “just call us, don’t come to front desk.” So of course the next day I go to the front desk, another guy tells me they’re sold out, even though I can still book a suite online. I point this out. Then his colleague, who is in fact speaking with another guest, overhears and turns to me to rudely interrupt. She asserts, “if you try to book a suite online, it won’t go through.” I’ve never heard of this, and if it is true, then Marriott’s reservation system is seriously messed up. But to be honest, as a longtime and loyal customer, it’s not Marriott that’s messed up, it’s the MET Vancouver. The only good thing here is the location, being right across from the mall, otherwise don’t bother. There are cleaner, newer, properly-functioning, customer-friendly properties for a similar price just down the street. Read less

Good food, I have a dairy allergy and one of the staff walked thru and showed me what I could eat, and made me a special omelet. One of my Servers was vaishali, and she was friendly personal and professional. Only suggestion would be putting on the label a souvenir level and indicate if it has meat, dairy or gluten. Thanks
