The Douglas, Autograph Collection Hotel

Vancouver, Canada

The hotel

Uniting Vancouver’s urban dynamism with British Columbia’s ‘outdoors’ spirit, this boutique hotel was inspired by the Douglas firs that swept along False Creek, where the hotel now lies. In fact, they’ve even installed a replica 25 foot fir to greet you on arrival. There’s nothing artificial about the 200 native pines and 15,000 local plants in its exquisite rooftop park though – six stories up, it’s the pièce de résistance for Parq Vancouver, a unique dining, entertainment, and hotel complex that provides the backdrop for The Douglas and its elegant yet environmentally conscious rooms. As part of Parq Vancouver, you get the key to all its attractions, including the stunning Spa by JW, a huge casino with around 600 slots and 75 tables, a fitness centre, and eight restaurants and lounges, including rooftop hangouts The Victor and D/6 Bar & Lounge.

Located in Yaletown, this property is a little out of the city centre (about a 10 minute brisk walk). New complex. Gorgeous property. Wonderful staff who cannot do enough to assist. No fridges in rooms.

We stayed for 5 nights on points and suite night upgrades so the price was right. As others have mentioned the Douglas is attached to the JW with a casino in between. The JW is a conference hotel which was probably the only annoying thing about the property. The concierge lounge is located on the far end of the JW on the CF floor so one has two options for getting there from the sleeping rooms - you can go down to the 1st floor (not lobby which is on the 6th floor), walk across street level floor then take a second set of (the JW) elevators to the CF floor. Or you can take the Douglas elevators to the CF floor and walk across the conference meeting areas which can be filled with people attending the conference depending on the time of day. The staff in the lounge were excellent, extremely pleasant and helpful. The food options were quite good although there was little variety (except for the appetizers from 5:30 - 7:30 pm). The property offers complimentary car service within a few miles of the hotel which we used twice. Other times we would have liked to use it but it was not available so we ended up taking cabs. Brandon, the downstairs valet, was amazing. By the end of the week we felt like we were old friends. He was extremely helpful with directions, suggestions for places to visit and eat and just to talk about Vancouver and Canada in general. He stayed after his shift ended one afternoon to help me plan our travels for the following day. Read less

If you can score a deal for this hotel using name your own price on Priceline, then it's worth it -- the rooms are wonderful and the service is even better. At normal retail, however, it isn't worth the prices that I saw advertised. Recommended.

We stayed at the Douglas for our honeymoon and wish we could do it all over again. Eis Realoza, our guest services agent at check-in, gave us great service and ensured our stay was special. The room was clean and in a great location. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

There was a good coffee shop on the ground floor common to the group hotels . The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were a good size ...the only drawback was the cupboard which was very small. On the whole we had a comfortable stay. Read less
