Wickaninnish Inn

Tofino, Vancouver Island

The hotel

Suspended on a rugged bluff, Wickaninnish Inn is hugged by the dramatic Pacific, old-growth forests, and Chesterman Beach. It makes for show stopping views – with every room looking out over the wild ocean or wind-sculpted sands. They even give you binoculars for surfer-spotting as you cosy up around your room’s fireplace, with its carved mantelpiece by local artist Henry Nolla. Natural driftwood, cedar, fir, and stone feature throughout the inn – from the lobby, with its gripping views of Chesterman Beach through 20 foot high windows, to The Pointe Restaurant, where the 240 degree views of the pounding Pacific surf, Pacific Northwest menu, and renowned wine collection all vie for top billing. Returning from whale watching, beach walks, or sea kayaking, you can relax over hot chocolate at Driftwood Café, cocktails at On the Rocks, or yoga at Ancient Cedars Spa.

I came for lunch and to enjoy the amazing storm surge Tuesday, November 17th at the Pointe Restaurant. The food was delicious and all the service staff unpretentious yet professional. Unfortunately I had an anaphylactic allergic reaction to something in the meal (something completely new to me). Sorin the maître d’ immediately came to my rescue and even had an epi-pen to help reverse my symptoms. The ambulance services were contacted immediately, and then out of now where Claire, a member of the Marketing Team at Wikkaninish, took me into a private area to monitor my vitals until passing me off to the ambulance team. Sorin and Claire went above and beyond to make me feel safe and compassionately cared for. The Wikkaninish management team should be commended for hiring and training such authentically caring staff. Returned from a 4 night stay at this terrific Relais and Chateux property on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Wonderful. Our room was in the Pointe Building with an ocean view, but couldn’t really see much of the beach. The other building is better for that. Tofino is great for Storm Watching, walking in the Rain forest photography and beach walking. Pacific Rim National Park is great. Service at the Inn is top notch. Meals are not cheap and maybe not what one would expect at a 5 star resort. For a low key reasonable lunch try Wilderness Cafe across the street (very low key but great chowders). There is also a huge lineup at a taco stand there. 1909 restaurant also very good. Read less

We stayed for 3 nights and had the best time. From the amazing views, to the luxurious linens, to the memorable customer experience, I could not have asked for a better stay. Our only wish is we could’ve stayed longer!
