Fairmont Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Canada

The hotel

When in Winnipeg, the savvy stay at the Fairmont. In fact, royals, rock stars, and heads of state have all checked in here — but it’s ‘well-connected’ in more ways than that. The underground concourse gives easy access to Bell MTS Place for music and sports events, and it’s a stroll from The Forks National Historic Site, with its dining, shopping, and entertainment. Up on the 21st floor, Fairmont Winnipeg rewards you with views over Portage and Main as you work out in its 24-hour health club, and with a relaxing saltwater pool, hot tub, and cedar wood dry sauna. Its eateries are equally ‘rewarding’, whether you’re settling down for cocktails and bar bites at VG Lounge, or tucking into the seasonal Manitoban menu at VG Restaurant, where the locally sourced ingredients include sweet honey from the hotel’s rooftop beehives.

This building is really outdated! The rooms are small and the bathrooms are poorly designed, you cant have the shower door and bathroom door open at the same time. This was not what I expected when booking a Fairmont. The rooms could also be cleaner and more organized. We switched rooms and the second room was a lot nicer then the first one we had, plus it was properly stocked with amenities unlike the first one that was completely empty. That being said the staff were exceptional! Every single staff member we came across was very helpful and pleasant. I would like to give a very big thank you to Sandesh at the front door who went above and beyond trying to help us organize rides for our large group. Read less

I was not impressed with the room- it was really small and could have been any budget hotel!! The two double beds were tiny as well! We had no view (from the window) of course!- just some building opposite. The staff were not very welcoming or helpful as compared to my previous experience with the Fairmont. Self parking was really difficult to find, though it is supposed to be just behind the hotel, my truck would not fit into the multi-storey car park (which has a 6ft clearance) so finally conceded to valet parking. The velvet glove restaurant was good however. Finally, I was charged for all the extras inspite of getting a deal with $100 credit with my booking, I made multiple complaints to the staff about this was told that it would be rectified, however my credit card has still been charged for the amount I am not impressed at all, it felt like staying at a budget hotel ! This has put me off from staying at the Fairmont in future! Read less

First of all, the room rates were really reasonable and the front desk staff were quite helpful and accommodating. Secondly, we were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to walk to attractions all over the city. Having never visited Winnipeg, I took a bit of a chance based on eyeballing a map. Turns out our first event, a Goldeye baseball… Read more

Secondly, we were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to walk to attractions all over the city. Having never visited Winnipeg, I took a bit of a chance based on eyeballing a map. Turns out our first event, a Goldeye baseball game, was about five minutes away on foot. So we ended up stowing the car in the parkade and walking everywhere. Read less

We booked the Urban Escape package to celebrate our anniversary and were surprised and delighted to find out we had been given an upgrade to the gold level when we arrived. I went to the Velvet Glove with friends for dinner this past Saturday. We had a great time from the moment we entered the restaurant until we left fully satisfied. The hospitality staff was warm and welcoming, Mara our server was attentive but not over barring. We really enjoyed meeting Chef Daniel, who introduced himself to the table and was truly attentive to our needs. He made sure to take care of my fish allergy [a true allergy not just a masquerading intolerance] so I could enjoy my meal and the evening worry free! From the appetizers, main and dessert we were more than satisfied leaving with full but happy tummies! Our buttermilk fried chicken, 40 day aged rib eye and organic king salmon selections were perfectly prepared, not overdone as has been my experience with other restaurants. We couldn’t have asked for a better more relaxing evening. My three friends and I highly recommend the Velvet Glove for a great night out! Read less
