Fairmont Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Canada

The hotel

When in Winnipeg, the savvy stay at the Fairmont. In fact, royals, rock stars, and heads of state have all checked in here — but it’s ‘well-connected’ in more ways than that. The underground concourse gives easy access to Bell MTS Place for music and sports events, and it’s a stroll from The Forks National Historic Site, with its dining, shopping, and entertainment. Up on the 21st floor, Fairmont Winnipeg rewards you with views over Portage and Main as you work out in its 24-hour health club, and with a relaxing saltwater pool, hot tub, and cedar wood dry sauna. Its eateries are equally ‘rewarding’, whether you’re settling down for cocktails and bar bites at VG Lounge, or tucking into the seasonal Manitoban menu at VG Restaurant, where the locally sourced ingredients include sweet honey from the hotel’s rooftop beehives.

Upon arrival we were screened with questions and they took our temperature. They were being cautious because of COVID. We didn't have a problem with that and all was good. We proceeded to check in where we were told that since we were from Ontario, that amenities, such as, the pool were off limits to us. We were also asked to stay in our room and that if we wanted food, they could have it sent up to our room. Obviously we were not impressed. We were only staying one night so their insensitive request was going to cut into our sightseeing time of Winnipeg. If we weren't tired from our long drive then we would have looked for another hotel. The next morning we checked out 2 hours before checkout just so we could do some sightseeing before heading to our next destination. We visited a well known area of Winnipeg called, The Forks. It's a nice parkland by the river with shops and restaurants. We had a lovely breakfast at The Forks. If The Fairmont is so paranoid about having guests from Ontario then don't book them in. We booked our stay weeks in advance of our arrival. If we knew how paranoid they were about Ontario guests, then we would have gladly spent our money at another hotel. Winnipeg was just one stop on a long road trip over a period of 2 weeks. We stayed in an additional 5 hotels during our road trip and all of them treated their guests equally. The Fairmont Winnipeg, although a beautiful 4 star hotel, we did not feel welcomed there. Next time we're in Winnipeg, we'll be staying at another hotel who knows the importance of making all guests feel welcomed. Read less

My wife and I decided to try this hotel as it was always classed as one of the better hotels in Winnipeg, however during our stay we became disappointed. I do have to question the condition and cleaning of their rooms. Our first room had hair over the bathroom in different parts and the bed was very uncomfortable to a point where we could not sleep and ended up sore the next day. We changed rooms for day 2. Our second room, the air condition wasn't working properly, the toilet didn't flush ush properly, the fridge wasn't cleaned out as it had contents from previous tenant, and again hair in the bath tub. While the hotel offers a good restaurant and overall has nice architecture, we were very disappointed in the condition and quality of the rooms. Overall the price isn't worth for what you get as there are similar if not better options for less money. Read less

We were surprised at the extra cost of parking, surcharges for city taxes and inconvenience of old room key system. The room was not properly temperatures controlled. This hotel needs to he updated. It’s old and tired.

Nice hotel and great location downtown. Good sized rooms and bathrooms with very comfortable beds and nice toiletries. Rooms have refrigerators. Friendly staff. Anything you might want is walkable even in cold weather using the underground and skywalks. The river and forks area is only a short walk to.
