Blue Waters

Antigua, Caribbean

The hotel

This is a truly superb recently refreshed hotel with elegant surroundings, outstanding service and an enviable location on two white sand beaches lapped by gentle aqua waves, epitomising the Caribbean fantasy. The 17 tropical acres of gardens are beautifully tended and each of the buildings is romantically draped with brightly coloured bougainvillea — just adding to the delightful ambience. There's plenty to do during the day and you'll no doubt be tempted on to the beach by one of a generous array of water sports. Tennis and table tennis are popular and there's an 18-hole golf course 5 minutes away. Wind down in the evening (if you haven't done so already!) with a delicious coconut crush — liberally splashed with local rum — while you watch pelicans dive and swoop for their meals. Your dinner can be taken at one of the hotel's gourmet restaurants, complimented with an excellent Claret from the wine list. An amazing holiday experience.

From the moment we arrived the feeling of being welcome was over whelming! We were greeted with a cold flannel and fruit/rum punch, which after a long flight was most needed. The porters took our luggage to our deluxe sea view rooms, two rooms as with teenage daughters which were interconnecting via the balcony. The view from our balcony was just beautiful. Fully re-stocked mini-bar (as part of all-inclusive) and Elemis toiletries in the bathrooms, which includes a roll top bath are nice luxurious touch. Plenty of mirrors but a full length mirror in the rooms would be my only suggestion for any improvement. Once dressed for dinner it is nice to see your whole outfit and not just the top half. During our stay we also got married in the Wedding Gazebo which was so special and intimate. Cameron, Hospitality Manager was amazing in ensuring every detail was thought of and we were not disappointed. The Wedding Gazebo was beautifully decorated and we also enjoyed our wedding dinner in the Gazebo in the evening. Massive thank you to Cameron and the team for making our day so special and to Celeste in the Spa who did an amazing job of mine and our daughter’s hair! During our two week stay we ate in the Cove twice which was lovely but we did prefer Bartleys which was Asian and the restaurant is air conditioned. The Palm restaurant was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast had a good choice from cearl, fruit, pastries to pancakes, hot buffet and an egg station for made to order requests. We also ate in Carolyns three times which serves lovely flat bread pizzas, wraps and salads. Veronicas bar is open during the day and Joe made some amazing cocktails! During our stay we hired a car and took a trip to Stingray Island which was a great experience...highly recommend. Stingray's are actually very gentle. We also explored the island of Antigua. We didn't get to Shirley Heights but that will be on the agenda the next time we visit Blue Waters. Also, thank you to Kevin, General Manager who is always visible, chatting to the guests and ensuring everyone is enjoying their vacation. There is also a shop at the resort, which sells most things you may have forgotten and the lady who runs it is lovely and so friendly. In fact all the staff were really friendly and clearly enjoy working at Blue Waters. Although we were very sad to leave, I know we will be back...hopefully for our first Anniversary. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday with no loud music and poolside games but a chance to chill, take in the beautiful grounds and enjoy great food then I can't recommend Blue Waters enough! My wife and i had to spend so much money on excursions because we got tired of staying in the resort. You feel like a robot with all the timing. 3 restaurants with the same food each night. On the plus side STAFF WAS GREAT. I would not recommend this place for lively vacation stay. Way too overrated, the bartenders didn't know how to make the same drink all the time and there was not too much beach area. We did not enjoy this resort at all. I would not even give it 1 star! THE BEDS WERE HORRIBLE. KING size = two twins put together, also felt the springs in my back. Read less

Recently returned from Blue Waters, had a wonderful stay. The resort is beautiful, the grounds are very well maintained by the constant gardening crew they are immaculate. The pool area and beach are less well maintained some sun bed cushions in poor condition and large accumulation of seaweed on some days. Set on a hillside there are many steps not a problem for me but difficult for some. The accommodation on the surface was a high standard, plenty of room in our suite but small things like finger prints all over the stainless steal refrigerator when we arrived makes me question the standard of cleanliness. I felt there needed to be a more frequent deep clean. The mini bar was never replenished until we telephoned reception to request a refill. The food was a real mixed bag. Firstly the Cove visited twice the first was excellent nothing less than 4 star but the second visit was a disappointment very long wait for food and when it arrived it was very poor it had obviously been held back under heat lamps and was mostly inedible. The staff were very lack lustre. The Pan-Asian restaurant again visited twice the food was not consistent but the service was excellent. The Palm was a fair standard for a buffet restaurant but soon became very repetitive and it was 3 days before we were told there was a children’s menu. Carolyn’s was by far the best quality food but was only open for lunch 3 out of 7 days which was a real shame. Bar service was slow and the quality of alcohol poor on the all inclusive plan, the gin was so harsh it was almost unrecognisable as gin although premium brand were available at a supplement. I have travelled extensively staying in accommodation of all standards and Blue Waters is nearer 3 star than 4 star especially when you measure against cost, it is not good value for money. Read less

Blue Waters is a resort which is a stunning and private resort, with breathtaking views that you will not forget. My husband and I went to Blue Waters in September for our honeymoon along with our baby. Upon arrival we had a warm welcome by Kevin Phillips the GM and with a refreshing drink, our Bebe was greeted with warm smiles and we felt very welcome. Our room was separate from others which was nice and the view was amazing! Upon our arrival there was a bottle of bubbles and note to congratulate us on our marriage. The room had the cot which was great, on wheels so we could move around if needs be and an patio which was great for extra space. We ate in all the restaurants and I take my hat of to the chef's, the food was excellent and good variety. The children's menu is also good, portions are quite large so ask for a smaller portion to save food. I like to mention that before arriving at BW I emailed explaining that we have a baby and we will need the bottles washing and filled with fresh whole milk, they replied saying it wasn't a problem. That said after a day or so when we asked staff (very kindly) and I did feel a bit awkward asking, it seemed to be a great hassle, even one staff member rolling their eyes and another arguing with me to why can't I do it in my room, and I replied saying our room doesn't have a kitchenette and the correct facilities to do, and ask if it's a problem. This attitude really placed a sour feeling and I was so anxious in asking and even my husband was too! They should perhaps have a wash basin for guest with families to use in the palms restaurant with washing up liquid etc... We had the all inclusive package which was great and I would highly recommend going for that option! We placed our baby in the kids club a few times and used the baby sitting service which were both exceptional and would recommend if you would like a few hours to yourself, they do a whole day service but personally for a child in an usual place I wouldn't do so myself, especially if they are the only child their. I really think BW should be a little bit more baby/child friendly, I understand the clientele they want to attract to the resort but even a basket full of pool toys by the poolside and by the kids club where you could sign out and use, that would be great! and perhaps make an garden area with a climbing frame, swing, slides etc. Taking a child on holiday you are loaded up to the brim so to have this would be so wonderful and would make a difference I'm sure to other families that would come to visit. I used the spa once and it was quite stressful as they ran over by 40mins which then hindered the rest of the day and we had to re-plan everything, so I was really upset that happened and therefore it wasn't a relaxing experience, though the treatment mani/pedi was great but rushed, because they were behind schedule and she knew I had plans, so that was disappointing :-( The resort is being up-grade to a more classer feel with their branding and improvements around the resort. Since we were on honeymoon after all my husband surprised me a private special dinner at Rock cottage which was simply stunning, and the service from Andre and Cameron was excellent, they really made our evening feel special! If you have a large family I would highly recommend Rock Cottage, it's classy, stunning and huge, it's awesome!!! Maybe next time we will stay there if we win the lotto. I must mention the lady who cleaned our room, she was so lovely and with our baby, and did such a great job making our room feel fresh and clean each day. Also, Andre who is amazing with children and was a great personality! On the resort their our some water activities which we did and were great! We went to Shirley Heights (with baby and I don't recommend doing that, too loud and busy) pleased we went, great vibe, energy, good food and the view is one not to be missed! BW have a awesome gym with the latest equipment, it was nice to cool off around 3pm in the gym and workout. We went to the Yoga class too which was good, and was pleased they had this on offer, Kevin Phillips(GM) and Nicole Mathurin (Guest Relations Manager) we very present which was great to see management on the floor getting know the guests and helping. They were really great and made are trip that extra special, so thank you both x We fell in love with the Caribbean and it is now our go to place! Read less

Seems like everything is spread out so you never feel crowded, especially by the pool next to the cove suites. Beach is a little busy during half term week but again lovely. All inclusive option definitely worth doing. Derah at breakfast is a great host, and tameka makes the eggs with such a smile every morning, perfect start to each day. Dinner at cove is a great treat, fillet steak to perfection! Concierge karen always met us at breakfast to ensure we had everything and made all our dinner reservations. Last mention to Kevin Phillip's the general manager. Seen around the resort all the time catching up with guests which is always nice, not just sitting in his office! Thank you blue waters once again...till next time :-) Read less
