The beach was a little farther away from the resort than I thought, but within a 5 minute shuttle ride. The plunge pool was what made my stay the most perfect. The jeep "tropical" tour of the island was so interesting with history, sites, and food. I highly recommend this excursion. Nonsuch Bay is on the Atlantic side of the island (east side) and therefore more remote and quiet than the Caribbean side (west). Escape was therefore a quieter, more remote resort and perfectly safe for me as a solo traveler. I highly recommend a stay here. Read less

Well, this appears to be a resort of two halves…. And I’ll start with the positives; Our room with the plunge pool was lovely and was a real asset to the accommodation. With a beautiful view. Nice and clean, super comfy beds, housekeeping was spot on. Had a small kitchenette area with coffee machine, no mini bar, but you can apparently take the tray from inside your room and go to the bar and bring drinks back to your room, which is fine. The grounds are kept nice, clean and tidy, and there’s free parking on resort if you hire a car, which is handy. The food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was really good. Yes, some were saying breakfast was ‘samey’ each morning, but not sure how much more variety would be needed, it was a good selection. Table service for every meal (other than BBQ). Views from restaurant where guests eat is absolutely beautiful, overlooking the bay. Lunch and dinners were delicious and always a good variety each day. A lovely touch is the jetty’s down by the bar area - beautiful to go and watch the sun go down with a cocktail, but put your mozzie spray on. Also try the kayaks - difficult to get in and out of, but worth the struggle to paddle around the bay. Very pretty. Guests can pick up beach towels daily, readily and easily from Reception. Cannot comment on evening entertainment as we didn’t stay around for it. The resort itself is quite remote and you would most definitely need to hire a car to go out and about (although you could hire a taxi, but would turn out costly). Also, before you go, ask about the free transfers to and from airport at Reception - this was a really nice touch. Staff, other than one or two, were super friendly and helpful, especially the waiting staff in the restaurant - they were all so lovely and on the ball. I would say 99.9% of the time, excellent service. On the downside, and being perfectly fair and honest and not picky, the pool area and pool are absolutely not up to standard at all. It’s all dated, the paving looks like it needs pressure washing and the pool absolutely needs draining and repairing. The pool light was hanging off, the cobble effect stones inside the pool were all broken & full of algae, which is not what a resort like this should be. Also, there’s no steps in or out of the pool! There’s a wide ledge you step onto, then have to drop into the pool - anyone with a bad back or hips would struggle to get in or out - very strange and never seen this before. In addition, the pool was not maintained correctly and for a day and a half was closed as you couldn’t see the bottom of it as it was dirty, Green and again, full of algae. Absolutely unacceptable considering it’s a small pool and the beach is a walk away. Really disappointed and this area really needs urgently upgrading. Decking was not also cleaned daily (pieces of balloons and used plastic drinks glasses left for days). Cannot comment on the beach as we didn’t go. In the rooms, it would be prudent to put full doors on the bathroom/wc area ….. I’ll leave that to your imagination in a tiny room and could be awkward or embarrassing if you don’t know your partner/travelling buddy well enough. In a nutshell, this resort has the potential to fly with its location, relaxation, lovely staff and quite ambience, but the pool area really lets it down and shouldn’t be like this for a resort of this calibre. For this, we wouldn’t return unless this area was completely upgraded. Read less

Why did we return to Escape? Because it is unhurried, relaxing, calm, the rooms are brilliant and the food is excellent, especially as it's all table service. In short, it has a chilled vibe which allowed us to really relax. It is, of course, a long way away from things (another positive!) so we hired a car to get around the island - avoiding the potholes when we could! This year, we were able to choose a shortlist of places to revisit and then, following a recce of west-coast beaches, decided that Turner's beach was best - quiet even at the weekend and when there were a lot of ships in. Lunch at OJs suited us down to the ground. Last year, we enjoyed going down to the dock at the hotel - we saw lots of wildlife. This year, there is a new signpost to the dock and a more accessible route down. However, we were sad that the wildlife seems to have disappeared, with only one or two frigate birds and pelicans spotted over the 2 weeks. I spent much more time in the plunge pool in our room - I think it's a litle warmer than it was last year. There's no doubt that the plunge pool is a seriously good asset. I would love to be totally positive, but I can't be. The table service was much sharper this year, but the BBQ evening was a real shocker. We weren't warned that it is a buffet and when we arrived for dinner at 8 (our usual time), there was very little of the BBQ left and the ribs and chicken that I had were overcooked and dry - the worst meal I have ever had at Escape. To be fair, my wife enjoyed her fish, but I wish that people didn't think that all vegetarians must love tofu. That evening, there was a brilliant steel band. But they were cut short for an 'entertainment' - which was 6 people shamed into going on stage and then asked to play games with a balloon that probably goes down well at Butlin's, but which is totally out of place in Escape. I was told that the feedback from guests is that there is a strong demand for more entertainment: I would suggest that the activities chosen are more in line with the ethos of Escape - that's why people come back. As someone said to me - 'It's only one night a week' which is true, but makes it even more apparent how out of place the whole evening is. It rained on our second Wednesday, which meant we were spared any more 'entertainment', the food was better (we went at 1930!) and this made it more acceptable. Special mentions for Maxine, Alani, Leston, Bevecia, Ivanna and Charles who went the extra mile to make our stay so enjoyable - and to the rest of the staff who we found cheerful and welcoming! My husband and I are currently spending our 23 wedding anniversary here. This place is paradise. Those of you who watch the bachelor this is like one of those dates. Mostly secluded enough to do, very romantic atmosphere. Sitting in or on the plunge pool looking out into the bay. The feeling of relaxing is overwhelming. They have thought of everything. Things included a trip to the green island. White Sands turquoise waters, almost completely by yourself maybe another couple. A little extra and you can swim with the turtles and fish, took the kayaks out around the bay. We booked the combination package. Had a couple massage. Sushi bought back to our room, a flower bath, picnic on a different private island just the two of us. There are no words definitely worth it. Kiera was our personal concierge booked this and she was able to schedule it all to make everything relaxing and spread out so we did not have to think for make decisions. Massage done perfectly by Rosie. so funny down to earth and her student that she has had with her for eight years. They are very welcoming and calming. Definitely worth it. Andrew is the guy who took us on the boat twice to the islands. Warm, welcoming and fun just a delight to be around very real and was happy to show all the amazing things on the island. Paid the extra money for the shuttle with the champagne toast, and the chairs in the vehicle reclined. JT wonderful, kind and happy to give you all the details about the island. On Friday evening welcomed by kya, with a cool cloth, she worked behind the open office amazing counter made out of Driftwood. She was so warm and welcoming. All of the staff make you feel the love they have for this place. They enjoy their job and everything they do. The bar is opened at 10 AM. Dining room is open at 7:30 you pick your time for breakfast lunch and dinner daily. There are pool snacks every day until five most wonderful potato wedges, or french fries and something to accompany it. Daily fish sticks. Wow they are not fish sticks , they were amazing. The food is fresh and made local product. The local birds are fascinating they come to greet you while dining in the morning mostly. My husband and I loved this if you would not, and just sit closer to the building. There are other activities that are included such as yoga and Pilates steel pan drum nature walks at all happens during the week. We were here from Friday until Tuesday so I can not comment on those. but I can tell you we would have done them. In the evening, there is music playing by the pool Really enjoyed the DJ on Saturday evening. Monday night a beautiful saxophonist. We enjoyed from our flower bath! The plung pool, perfect temperature natural water could sit and look out all day. The bathtub amazing and comfortable enough to enjoy with your partner. The docs, must take a walk down by the docks during the day you can sit out there on your own private dock, with the table and chairs, comfortable chair with a footstool bring your cocktail of course. And read or just relaxing and enjoy the view and serenity The path to walk down on the docks, or get to them Are like plank style you walk through the mangrove and at night time they are lit up. It is spectacular. We have not or needed to go to town, but we decided to take a taxi named Tevin who was happy to discuss the island. It was about 40 minutes for shopping and see the people in the town. $80. We ate at the Hemingway and was able to get a local lamb, curry and conch fritters. We sat upstairs on the balcony overlooking the town. We had two drinks each and a dessert spending just under $100 US. We then met the most amazing seamstress Named Noreen Phillips. She is a designer. My husband and I are not big shoppers, but he ended up liking her long sleeve linen shirts, and she sat there behind the sewing machine, stitching the requests of the people who come in. She stopped what she was doing to walk over and cater to my husband . She realized that his body size was different from his arm size so she said no problem and I said it would take just a few hours to remove the arms from one and put the proper size arms on it. We walked out with three shirts ordered, she then arrived at our room to hand-deliver them and give us hugs and gratitude. It was a 45 minute drive here and then an additional half an hour for her to go home. There are no words, but we felt the love . There is no need or desire to have to leave this place. The meals that are provided are wonderful. We got to try something different every day. The bartenders were pretty much able to make just about anything and the pool snacks from 4 to 5 were potato wedges, and something else it. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, I recommend this place. If I have not convinced you yet, I have no idea what else I could have said Read less

Weve been to Antigua many times over the years & escape has everything we love about the island. Be yourself, no makeup, no glam evening get up. Be comfy and enjoy. You won’t get marble glitzy stuff. You will get easy comfort, great food and incredibly attentive staff. But … hire a car. Enjoy the island. It’s wonderful 💕
