The hotel

In a spectacular elevated setting above Jolly Harbour, Sugar Ridge is a family-owned, independent, boutique hotel set amongst sugar-cane —hence the name! — and indigenous flora providing a beautiful setting — it really is the sweetest thing. Located on 11 acres of sloping parkland surrounded with colourful, indigenous flora and fauna, this certified Green Globe Hotel is fashionable in design and offers unparalleled views over the Caribbean Sea, palm-lined beaches and the headlands to Five Islands Bay. Tiered guest rooms are bright and spacious with stunning views of your spectacular surrounds. Contemporary in style, they’re also elegant, providing the perfect home-from-home experience. Ideal for a relaxing couples holiday, this hotel really does offer the best of both worlds — intimate seclusion with beaches, shopping, dining, galleries and attractions within easy access. Dining at the hotel is a treat with two distinct restaurants. Enjoy stunning sunsets and fine dining at Carmichael’s or discover the more casual buzzy atmosphere of the Sugar Club Restaurant, with both indoor and outdoor dining and live entertainment three times a week. Packed lunches are available for those of you who plan to explore the island. There are no less than three pools to choose from at the hotel and to make sure you're completely relaxed, pool attendants will be there to offer snacks and drinks, complimentary water scented with tropical fruit and refreshing cold scented towels. Bliss.

Ate at sugar ridge lounge which was great and so was breakfast plan. we were celebrating our 40th wedding so we went to Carmichaels on our final night. The portions were small and fairly costly, we did not leave full. Really liked the shuttle to the beaches but you did have to pay for umbrellas(not what was on web site of Trip Central) and chairs each time because we were not eating there.(just finished breakfast). I recently completed a one week stay at this resort. It is situated on a hill so it is not the most convenient location for persons with disabilities particularly those in wheelchairs. There are shuttle services to help persons get around though. Staff members are very friendly. Food is ok but expensive with a US10 surcharge for room service. The main restaurant has several stairs and there are no ramps or elevators. I did not go to the second restaurant but my colleagues did and found the service extremely slow, prices expensive and serving portions small. Some rooms come with a splash pool which is convenient if you have limited mobility or just prefer some private time. Just be careful as uour neighbour might be able to see you. If you are into fitness, the hilly terrain makes for great exercise particulary if you dont feel like using the gym. Finally as a business hotel the room is not the most conducive as there are no desks in the rooms (at least mine). Television is weirdly placed. The rooms are spacious and well decorated. The ironing board is miniature so if you are mot used to the size it is a bit cumbersome. Would I stay again? No as i have some mobility issues and getting around is challenging with that many stairs. Food quickly became even more expensive as i had to order room service at night and although breakfast was included I skipped it so i could function during the day. But enjoy the views! Read less

Views from the infinity pool or Carmichael’s at the top of the hill are stunning - you can catch some lovely sunsets. They also have a fabulous yoga platform up there - doing yoga overlooking the sea was wonderful. The staff are fab - the friendliest team! Highly recommend. Read less

I thought this hotel and surroundings were just lovely. It’s set in a beautiful picturesque hillside, but is only 10 mins walk from a couple of the beaches. There are a few other restaurants within walking distance. There’s also a regular shuttle service that goes to from a couple of the beaches. There’s also free sun loungers on these beaches if you’re staying at Sugar Ridge which is always a plus! We found the rooms to be very spacious, clean and had good Wi-fi. If you don’t fancy walking you can call the shuttle. You only usually have to wait 5 mins. Same if you want to go to the infinity pool, yoga or Carmichael’s at the top of the hill. If not there’s a relatively easy path to follow, although a little dark at night. We didn’t go all inclusive but we eat here a few times and the food was great. It’s not Michelin star but it doesn’t claim to be. The staff are very helpful and always courteous and happy to help. There’s also plenty of variety. My only constructive feedback would be that the evening entertainment is a little random and sporadic (it may have been a season thing), and it could probably do with some nice ‘chill’ music in the bar area and around the pools. If you want a pristine hotel on a beach that has no character go to a Sandals. If you want a hotel that has a good atmosphere, a bit of soul, set a little back from passing tourists with lovely food and helpful staff, then stay here. :) Read less

Hotel rooms themselves have large balconies but rooms themselves could use a little maintenance as our locks weren't working very well on the doors. Customer service was fantastic. They returned a forgotten item from the restaurant before I had even phoned down. Shuttles to 2 different beaches are fun as were the hikes and market city tours that the hotel arranges. Read less
