A smile and a hello every day! The resort was beautiful and clean also. I was leery since there were some negative reviews but I'm glad we chose this destination. Only negatives would be minor things such as our patio door was hard to lock, the tub didn't hold water, the faucet dripped, our remote didn't communicate well with the tv, and my husband stepped on a piece of glass in the room (ouch). There were a few inconsistencies such as two of us ordered the exact same meal and one person got two skewers of shrimp, the other got one. Pool drinks very weak at one bar but overpowering at the other bar etc. Such minor things that the good way outweighed the bad! Lots to do at the resort - the entertainment was great! Highly reccomened - we will be back! Read less

We took a quick Spring Break getaway to Sandals Royal Bahamian for four nights starting on March 31. Like many of you, we read the wide variety of hit and miss reviews on Trip Advisor and had our reservations about coming back, but we found it was the same for our last visit to SRB in 2010. A lot of bad reviews had us concerned then as well, but we had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves on both occasions. Does the property need repairs? Absolutely in several locations, but nothing affected our stay. Our room was clean and taken care of daily. Are all the employees friendly and smiling all the time? Of course not, but the vast majority of them were great and we enjoyed getting to know quite a few of them. Did the beach have some seaweed? Yes, but that has been a problem throughout the Caribbean for several years now and there is nothing Sandals or any other resort can do about Mother Nature. The island country of Barbados issued a National Emergency in 2018 because this ongoing phenomenon. Anyway, I don’t not want to bore you with the details of our vacation. What I want to do here is offer advice, insight and helpful tips to hopefully make your vacation decision easier. It’s going to be long, but here goes…. Airport and Resort Transfer Shuttle – The airport has been substantially expanded and upgraded since our last visit in 2010. Our wait in Customs and Immigration was about 30 minutes on a weekend day coming in and less than 10 minutes on a weekday going home. Tip – When traveling from Nassau and going to the United States, you clear U.S. Customs and Immigration at the Nassau airport. When you land in the U.S., it is the same as making any other domestic connection. Only minor complaint about the airport was the Sandals reception area. The Sandals reception area here is very small compared to some other islands where Sandals and Beaches operate. There were no food or drinks available or offered and only one employee was taking luggage out to the shuttle, which made the process longer than it should have or that we have seen on other islands. The shuttle ride is very quick - only about 15 minutes. The two vans we rode in were not new vans but they both had air conditioning and the drivers were friendly. Again, it’s only a 15 minute ride between the airport and the resort. There is no need to have a posh Cadillac or stretch limousine like some of the complainers on Trip Advisor apparently require. Overall Property – Very good. The gardens are lush, well maintained and offer a wide variety of tropical flowers, plants, bushes and trees. All the general population areas were clean, but we did see several examples structures in need of repair. The property is small with two large “high rise” buildings and one village in the rear of the property with smaller building accommodations. And you have the remote island that everyone seems to like. Accommodations – Good. Not comparable to North American five star, but very nice and pretty typical upscale Caribbean resort rooms. We stayed in the Balmoral building in the Balmoral Beachfront Club Level Room Suite on the second floor. The bed was comfortable and climate controls were good. The room was serviced every day (cleaned and re-stocked) and we had turndown service every evening except one. Nice large balcony. No issues with the room. Restaurants – Good food, but not five star. With 10 restaurants on property, there are plenty of dining options to choose from. We had no issues getting a table rather quickly during our stay and never saw any of the long lines that many people complain about in Trip Advisor. However, we like to get up relatively early and go to bed relatively early so we eat soon after the restaurants open around 6:00. Tip - We talked to one server about the complaints we had read on Trip Advisor and their comment was that if you wait to eat at 7:30 or later, you will probably have the lines. But if you eat earlier, you probably won’t have an issue getting seated quickly. I preferred Casanova for dinner, while my wife really enjoyed her seafood entrée at The Crystal Room. We ate lunch every day at either Royal Café or Bella Napoli and enjoyed both. Tip - Royal Café has a walk-up self-serve, soft-serve ice cream dispenser. I made myself a Coke Float every day. We enjoyed the service provided by Gabreil at Casanova, Chevez at The Crystal Room, Tanagra at Casanova and The Crystal Room and Ashran’s daily beach service (checked on us at least 4-5 times each and every day). Thank you all. Beach Areas – The beach areas were always clean and we did not have any issues finding available beach chairs under shaded areas during our stay at any time throughout the day. I was shocked to find the beach cabanas were available to everyone on a first-come-first-serve basis, free of additional charge. We were able to secure one all but one day. Other Sandals and Beaches we have visited charge $100 or more per day for the cabanas but they also come with Butler cabana service for a day. I’ll take the free cabana over the $100+ cabana any day. Almost all Caribbean beaches are public areas, so you might have beach vendors. We had them in 2010, but not on this trip. Our experience with beach vendors at other Sandals/Beaches properties is a simple and polite, “no thank you”, and they leave you alone. Pool Areas – The two main pools are adjacent to the Windsor and Balmoral buildings. Each main pool has its own vibe. Tip - The Balmoral pool is not heated, but is very quiet throughout the day. The Windsor pool is heated, but all the pool-side activities are at this pool and can be quite busy and noisy. Both main pools have swim up/walk up bars. Queue’s at the Windsor pool bars were longer due to the amount of people around this pool. Both main pools appeared to be very clean and well maintained. Diving - For you scuba divers, or potential scuba divers, here are some insights on this area. I did my very first scuba dive here under a resort certification in 2010 and now have numerous certifications and just shy of 100 dives (going to hit that milestone at Sandals Grenada in July). The Bahamas are a well-known dive destination for a reason. I made five dives over my three days of diving all were excellent. Lots of small fish, larger fish, and mostly healthy reefs. I went on the shark dive (extra fee) and it was great. At least two dozen very active Nurse and Reef sharks all around us on the shark dive. Thanks to the entire team for running a professional dive operation, but special thanks to Ricardo, Wenzel, Brian and Leslie. Add in snorkeling, SNUBA, sailing, paddle boarding, wind surfing, Aqua Trikes and you cannot run out of things to do here. Spa – My wife very much enjoyed here massage but making the reservation was very confusing and was initially sent to the wrong spa location on the property (tip - they have more than one). But once she got on the table, received a very relaxing treatment. Miscellaneous – We were glad to see the butlers in new day uniforms instead of having to walk around in the hot sun in all black long sleeve jackets and pants. They looked much more comfortable and happy during the day. At night they are back in their more formal attire. Wifi is now included throughout the resort for all guests, although it’s not the fastest service. You get a daily newsletter in your room each night with all the next day’s scheduled activities for the entire property. Tip - Bring your own large, insulated cups for drinks to make less trips to the bars. Lastly, but I think most importantly, the Sandals RB staff on property almost all very good. If you treat them as you wish to be treated, like saying, “please” and “thank you” and engage them in conversation, you will meet some wonderful people. If you treat them poorly (and we saw several examples of guests doing this – it is amazing to see how rude and obnoxious some guests can be), then maybe you do not deserve to be treated as warmly as we were treated. We did not find one SRB employee with a bad attitude and almost all had a smile for us when we greeted them. Tip - Maybe since we treated them nicely we had good service at all bars and restaurants we visited on property and not some of the negative issues others have complained about here on Trip Advisor. So, I know this was a long review, but hopefully you found something useful that will help make your vacation destination decision easier or to prepare for your upcoming Sandals Royal Bahamian trip. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me via Trip Advisor. I enjoyed it there and would be glad to help. I am not a Sandals/Beaches employee or travel agent, just a regular person like most of you looking to make the best of my precious vacation time and money. And if you found this review helpful, please drop me a helpful vote using the link right below the review. Read less

My wife and I just returned from our vacation at Sandals Royal Bahamian and had a fantastic trip! The views from our room in the Balmoral Tower (Room 312) were absolutely amazing. Watching the sunrise while having coffee on our balcony was such a treat! It was worth a little extra to have such a gorgeous view! Money well spent. The spa was such a relaxing experience and the staff was very accommodating. I would highly recommend the spa, as it put us in vacation mode immediately. Our favorite restaurant was Bacarats! Darius was our waiter and he added to the experience! The private off shore island was paradise! We spent a lot of time on the island and the water was incredible. We have previously visited Sandals in Jamaica and recognized one of the bar staff, Copeland, from Sandals Whitehouse. When we told him that we remembered him he immediately made us feel like family. He spoiled us with a few of our favorite Jamaican drinks, per our request! It was such a treat seeing Copeland in the Bahamas. We would highly recommend Sandals Royal Bahamian!! We have already booked a return trip to Sandals! If you want an amazing spa experience, delicious food and crystal clear water....this is the resort for you! Read less

We’ve been to Sandals hotels previously in the Caribbean and they’ve been great. However, we will not go back to a Sandals resort again after staying for the last 11 nights at The Sandals Royal Bahamian hotel in Nassau. It wasn't all bad but unfortunately the negatives outweighed the positives in whats promoted as heaven on earth. We arrived at the hotel at around 5pm after a long journey from the UK and were surprised not to be offered a ‘welcome drink’ upon our arrival, which is considered normal these days when staying in a ‘luxury hotel’. We experienced a rushed and incomprehensible explanation of the resort by Pablo after we were placed in the main reception area with another dozen or so people. We were given an iPad to enter our details to allow the reception staff to check us in. Not everyone can use these things. Other guests were talking loudly to reception staff and it was difficult to hear Pablo go through his repertoire. We later discovered the loud guests were complaining that they had been waiting for 8 hours and their room was still not available. There was a serious shortage of information in the welcome pack given to us including no information relating to restaurants or activities. Next morning we were dismayed to find all the sun beds by the two pools and on the beach reserved with towels. Again, we discovered the ‘private butlers’ are the main culprits who start the trend and reserve beds at both of the pools and also the beach for their same clients. Bed reserving starts before 6am, so if you want a bed with a brolly you need to be up and about before 8am. The hotel does nothing to discourage this practice as the Sandals ‘private butlers’ are a law unto themselves and given priority over ‘normal’ guests. The booking system for the A la carte restaurants is also abused by the ‘private butlers’ who manage to secure the ‘early sittings’ for their clients leaving the later 9.30pm slots for the ‘normal guests’. For the first 4 days there was no visible waiter service around the pool areas or on the beach. Day 5 onwards there was a very sporadic service and a number of times the pool bars actually ran out of bottles of water. Several times during our stay we watched pool cleaners who were literally in the pool scrubbing the tiles of the pool with pads and detergent in the middle of the afternoon and the resulting dirty by-product was running into the pool where people were swimming. Surely this practice should be carried out after the pool closes to allow filtration to take place. We booked a Honeymoon Suite which turned out to be a very tired and dated room with a worn brown carpet and a very small balcony area which only just fit the ‘bistro set’ of two chairs and small table. The bathroom had an over the bath shower with a mouldy shower curtain and bath sealant which needed replacing as it too was black in places with mould. The room’s air conditioning was just as dated and loud. We constantly had to turn the tv up when it kicked in, and it certainly became an irritation whilst trying to sleep. Two nights in succession we ordered champagne from room service which really was only sparkling wine (the hotel likes to call it champagne) First night after 90 minutes I rang to remind them, 15 minutes later it arrived. Second night, same again, I rang after 90 minutes and the sparkling wine eventually arrived after 2 hours and 35 minutes. We went on a Sandals organised ‘all inclusive excursion’ on a boat to other islands which left from the harbour in the main town. Sandals organised the transportation to the harbour but upon our return there was no ‘lift’ back to the hotel and we had to arrange a taxi then argue with Sandals to have the taxi fare reimbursed. Other points of mention, the games room with two pool tables. The legs of the pool tables were thick of dust and hadn’t been cleaned for months.... in the dust I wrote ‘dust - clean me’ and after 7 days the dust was untouched. Other areas in the hotel were similarly dirty... Locks on the toilet doors in public areas were broken and it was evident that they have been like this for a long time. The Baccaret Al'a cart Restaurant .....the serving staff forgot to serve our drinks and starters, giving us just the main course. When this was pointed out we had the starters served whilst we were still eating our main course. This also happened to other guests we became friends with during our stay. Some of the staff were attentive and happy in their work whilst the majority of the staff, especially the female ones seemed miserable and ‘not bothered’ about what was going on around them. It is very apparent that guests staying in the top tier rooms with butlers get preferential service. This wasn’t just my opinion, it was echoed by a number of fellow holidaymakers during our stay. The Royal Bahamian hotel in Nassau is not a cheap hotel to visit and it relies upon its name and old historic links to certain high flyers some 50 or 60 years previous. It needs to get a grip of reality and treat all guests equally regardless. Further, if the furnishings and decor in our room was typical then some serious money needs spending to bring the tired rooms up to modern day standards Sandals actually promote this hotel with the phrase ‘the world’s only 5 star luxury all-inclusive hotel’ ........Really ????? Anyway, there’s a lot of nice hotels out there waiting so it’s ‘Bye bye Sandals’ Read less

Me and my Girlfriend had a great 4 night stay at Sandals Royal Bohemian during Easter weekend, we wish we could have stayed longer! The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the Windsor building on the top floor with a nice view from the balcony. The party pool was fun with a DJ and the hype man, who I forget his name, but was constantly dancing and kept the party going. The bartenders were hardworking and made some fine drinks. The regatta they had on Saturday with beach contests and food was fun and entertaining as was the street type party they had Saturday night. Special shout out to “Q”, “Zoie” , “jason” and the rest of the entertainment team, they were fun , entertaining and very friendly! Also the people who work at the excursions desk were very helpful. Lots of food and many options at the restaurants, my favorite was Spices, Gordon’s in the water for a nice romantic meal, and the pizza place. Finally, I would recommend visiting the Island, which has a shuttle that travels there about every hour, not as crowded there, the water on the beach was clearer with swings and hammocks in the water, awesome pool bar there with no waiting for drinks and a decent restaurant with great conch.
