The Beach at Atlantis

Bahamas, Caribbean

The hotel

Travellers flock to the Bahamas for two things – the beauty of its beaches and the attractions of Atlantis – and, as its name implies, The Beach at Atlantis delivers both. Anchored to Atlantis Beach, it’s claimed one of the best sand-side spots at this Bahamian mega-resort. The casual-coastal hotel frames the pool, where water cascades over boulders, palm trees burst from the sun terrace, and sea views stretch out as you swim. Staying at The Beach also gives you the key to Atlantis’s world-famous features, like its marine lagoons, 141-acre Aquaventure water park, and 40 bars and restaurants – with Casual, Gourmet, and Premium dining plans to pick from.

My wife and I stayed at The Beach for the first time for a family wedding. Our room was simply decorated but clean and comfortable, and the view from our balcony was decent (overlooking the Atlantis Conference Center and the part of Paradise Island facing the main bridges). The best part of our stay was the Beach Tower’s proximity to the beach and pools, which we visited as often as possible over the weekend. The Beach Tower is a healthy walk from the main check-in area, where taxis drop off and pick up, but there are multiple very good dining options between those two points. A special mention goes to the staff, who were consistently friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The Royal at Atlantis may be the glitzier place to stay, but we thought that we got good value for what we paid on this visit. Read less

Our hotel room was spacious, quiet, clean, and comfortable. The water activities were a blast! The food is a little pricey but so are most tourist places so not surprising. The only thing I dislike about Atlantis are the captive dolphins. I'm not a supporter of putting dolphins in captivity for human entertainment, so we avoided any activity of this kind. The other thing that was bothersome were how rude the tourist were. Leaving trash all over the beach and towels all over the resort. The tourist were the biggest negative of Atlantas, but the resort and accommodations were amazing. Read less

Bahamas are beautiful. Absolutely stunning beaches. Wonderful residents and just an overall lovely area. In the future I would definitely go back to Bahamas but never to Atlantis. Save your money and stay elsewhere. I made a list of all the issues, although not inclusive of all the problems we had: Transfer made me wait 30 mins and allowed people to run back to get liquor prior to taking me to my hotel. First room (9127) had a toilet that wouldn’t flush and music blaring from the next door hotel (Rio). So loud that you couldn’t do anything. Gecko crawling in bathroom Bowel movement still in the toilet. Moved to new room (8136)- much better Only two electrical outlets in the hotel room Not enough towels. Only two in room even though we had 4 people. Had to call for more towels. Sliding glass door is super hard to open. Beach pool was closed the entire stay Beach bar was closed the entire stay Cave grill was closed the entire stay Seagrapes was closed the entire stay Virgil’s was closed for several days No options for food in beach tower for the whole stay. Closest restaurants were a far walk and my father was set for knee replacement surgery the next week. Couldn’t find a towel huts for beach/pool towels had to walk two hotels over for a towel. Beach was rough by the hotel but when we tried to go to a different beach this morning we were told that we must have wristbands and be staying at the cove or reef. Towel huts refused to give us towels, they were only for the cove or reef. Paid $450 for sea lions but the only way any one could take pictures is if they paid $35 to have another person stand back and take pictures. Otherwise you get no pictures of this expensive excursion unless you want to pay for their $200 picture package. The entire hotel is in disrepair. Rusted door handles. Chipped paint, faded dirty carpets throughout the beach property. Shuttle took twenty minutes when we were told it came on the 15’s. He was the ONLY shuttle driver for the entire property. He refused to wait for my parents to grab something out of the room. We called because our headphones were lost on the transfer. We called and no one would call majestic tours. We went to the tour & excursions desk in the coral and were told since we are “beach” guests we need to wait until 8:30 the next morning and go to the one in our hotel to get assistance. Lights on the elevator to alert you which door is opening don’t come on at beach tower. Housekeeping did not come to clean our room one of the days. We couldn’t get wristbands for the water park. We tried 5 towel huts. We had to do the water park holding our room key. Lazy river closed the entire stay. We were treated like second class citizens de spiral paying $1500 for a 3 night stay on the beach property. For $500 a night we did not expect to constantly be told “you are staying at the beach. We can’t help you.” After complaining we did receive a hotel credit of $100 which didn’t even pay for ONE meal! After spending $1500 on just the room you would think Atlantis could do better!! Just close the beach property in your off season if you don’t want to maintain it. Allow guests to only stay at the Coral or higher. You lost a customer Atlantis. We won’t return or can’t recommend this hotel. Too many other places to stay to waste you money to be treated poorly. Read less

I have to be honest, reading the reviews here made me extremely nervous that we were going to walk into a train wreck of a room. Nothing could be further from what we actually experienced. Here are some of the comments I read prior to our trip and what we actually experienced. You get dropped off at Coral Towers to check in: Comments were that this was a huge inconvenience but it’s not a big deal at all. You walk this path the entire time since the hotels are connected. The room is dated/not clean: I really was expecting to brace myself for a rusty room. Our room was great! It was clean, we had an amazing view and I have stayed in $500 a night ocean view rooms at Ocean City Maryland that were in worse shape. Staff was rude: Everyone was sooooooo friendly! We did not experience anything but politeness in the restaurants and service areas. The food is expensive: Yep, this is correct but you are paying a 12% tax and 15% gratuity on everything. When you remove that it’s no different than any other resort and more importantly the food was great! The elevators didn’t work: We had no issues. No hot water: Whatever happen over Christmas must have been fixed because the water was VERY hot. We will absolutely come back and would consider staying at the Beach Tower again. The only reason we would stay somewhere else is to save a few steps and be closer in the Corral Tower but honestly I would rather see and hear the beach from my room. Read less

Maybe we got lucky with the room or the people we came across? But here’s an honest review about staying at the beach tower: yes it’s a bit outdated in comparison with the other hotels on the property. But here’s the thing; you’re paying much less per night. Maybe we got lucky with the room or the people we came across? But here’s an honest review about staying at the beach tower: yes it’s a bit outdated in comparison with the other hotels on the property. But here’s the thing; you’re paying much less per night. Also I don’t know how many people are staying in their rooms so much that they’re looking for imperfections. We travelled with an 8 month old and a 7 year old and both were accommodated perfectly. We called ahead for a crib and at check in we received a bundle of water vouchers. There are a lot of stairs but there’s also a pathway near the beach that allowed us to push the stroller and navigate the property. The property is huge! Makes for a lovely walk around to explore all that there is. If you don’t like walking then this is not the place for you! Yes it’s expensive to eat and drink but if you’re a smart traveller pack a cooler bag, then buy a 12 pack at the grocery store and some snacks; maybe some sandwich stuff, yogurt you can store in the fridge and you can easily have breakfast, lunch and drinks by the pool covered. Then splurge on dinner. The slides will keep any kid occupied and there are a variety of pools to enjoy. Cruises do dock and many passengers come for the day so if you’re wary of crowds keep that in mind. We travelled Jan 12-15. 4 days is more than enough time to spend here. Personally we’d be bored any longer. Marina village is within walking distance and there’s a margaritaville close by that has amazing service. Everyone has been nice. If you’re kind then it’s returned. If you have an attitude of superiority then of course people will give you attitude in return. We will definitely return for another vacation! Read less
