The Beach at Atlantis

Bahamas, Caribbean

The hotel

Travellers flock to the Bahamas for two things – the beauty of its beaches and the attractions of Atlantis – and, as its name implies, The Beach at Atlantis delivers both. Anchored to Atlantis Beach, it’s claimed one of the best sand-side spots at this Bahamian mega-resort. The casual-coastal hotel frames the pool, where water cascades over boulders, palm trees burst from the sun terrace, and sea views stretch out as you swim. Staying at The Beach also gives you the key to Atlantis’s world-famous features, like its marine lagoons, 141-acre Aquaventure water park, and 40 bars and restaurants – with Casual, Gourmet, and Premium dining plans to pick from.

I fell in love with the beaches at Atlantis resort! The beaches are very accessible and not over crowded. There were vendors selling souvenirs and another selling coconut drinks and neither were pushy, they actually took no for an answer and didn't bother you. They also lounge chairs that they will bring to you (Please make sure that you tip them if you get a lounger, they work hard for their money). The ocean was crystal clear and there was plenty of other activities like jet ski's, snorkeling or just plain relaxing, which I did. There plenty of restrooms around also. Read less

If you’re considering going here, consider yourself warned, you would be better off going anywhere else. We stayed at one of the nicest properties at Atlantis and also stayed for a few nights at the beach to “save money”. We felt completely ripped off - customer service is abysmal, the room was insanely run down, and the majority of the restaurants and some attractions were closed! We did have an ocean view, and it was enjoyable looking at the Ray exhibit from our balcony. However I think that is the only pro of our stay at the Beach. Checking in, we got one water coupon per night. The bottle in the room was $8 including tax. Seriously, $8 for water?! Trying to use the water coupons at the resort was also somewhat challenging as many of the restaurants were closed during our stay, and even one restaurant didn’t accept them. After going for a run in 80 degree weather it should not be this difficult to hydrate properly, especially after paying resort fees and built in gratuity. We specifically booked and requested a king room for our anniversary and were disappointed to find two double beds. I called the front desk and was told there were no other rooms available. My husband called a few minutes later and had a different staff member, who was able to help and move us to another room, so apparently there were more available. The room smelled absolutely terrible. It may have been a smoking room years ago that just never had the stench go away. The shower water smelled like sulfur coming out of the pipes. I felt cleaner after dipping in the ocean. And everything in our room seemed to be broken- the phone had a never ending dial tone, the cord for the clock was cut from the wall, and the bathroom door wouldn’t even shut from 50+ years of paint (probably trying to mask that awful smell). You can still experience the best parts of the Atlantis resort - beach/ocean, pools and water park - but the wristband system is a complete joke. Some staff members would tell us we couldn’t go down any of the water slides without wristbands, and after waiting for 30 minutes at a stand for a wristband waiting for a manager we were told we had to go to another stand. We waited for another half hour at the second stand for a different manager. At this point we felt like the resort should be paying us for our wasted time. Turns out none of the water park or security staff cared about wristbands at all as our friends without them got onto the rides just fine. We ate dinner at Frankies gone bananas and the sea fire steakhouse, which both had slow service and overpriced food, but were very tasty. We had a very hard time finding breakfast or lunch as it was “slow season” and almost all of the breakfast and lunch places we found were closed. All in all, if The Beach at Atlantis really thinks they tried their best to be a nice place to stay, I’d still give them a <1 star rating, will never plan to return, and never recommend this hotel to anyone. Amazing. Each and every time. I just don’t understand the negative reviews. Come on people, you’re on Paradise Island! It’s gorgeous! Yes, the Beach Hotel is the furthest away at the Atlantis from the “action”. If you don’t like to walk then don’t book here. Yes, you do have to check in/out in the Coral and then WALK to the Beach (indoor hallway if you wish). Again, if you don’t like walking then don’t stay at the Beach! We love to walk. And we love the scenery on those walks. Newsflash.... the Atlantis is a large resort. You’re going to walk no matter where you stay. It’s an older building. It’s not going to be the Ritz! It’s the least expensive hotel with the least amount of frills. However, if you’re like us and only spend time in the room to shower and sleep then you’ll give it 5 stars. The rooms are clean, well furnished. Yes, some rooms overlook the roof. If you don’t want to look at it then book a water/ resort view. I don’t quite understand the negative reviews. It’s a 3 star hotel. Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff. Clean throughout. Again, you’re in a paradise! If you want a more luxurious room then book the Reef! We go to atlantis for the ENTIRE resort. The water park, the pools, the beaches, the marine life. We don’t go to gamble and we aren’t foodies. We could care less what we eat. You won’t catch us a Nobu or anything like that. We come to have an amazing time at a gorgeous resort. The Beach offers basic food choices but again, you’re part of the ENTIRE Atlantis resort so you can choose anywhere you want to eat. If you’re like us, you’re going to LOVE the Beach resort. This was our 3rd trip and we will most definitely return.... and stay at the Beach! Read less
