The Beach at Atlantis

Bahamas, Caribbean

The hotel

Travellers flock to the Bahamas for two things – the beauty of its beaches and the attractions of Atlantis – and, as its name implies, The Beach at Atlantis delivers both. Anchored to Atlantis Beach, it’s claimed one of the best sand-side spots at this Bahamian mega-resort. The casual-coastal hotel frames the pool, where water cascades over boulders, palm trees burst from the sun terrace, and sea views stretch out as you swim. Staying at The Beach also gives you the key to Atlantis’s world-famous features, like its marine lagoons, 141-acre Aquaventure water park, and 40 bars and restaurants – with Casual, Gourmet, and Premium dining plans to pick from.

The Beach is the cheapest and the worst of all the hotel towers at Atlantis. I use the word “cheap” loosely as any nightly room price that you are quoted when booking online does not include the Atlantis taxes and surcharges. This will add another 55% to any quoted package price.
Check in is at The Coral next door so as not to scare you off from the get go. We were asked to give a $750 deposit by credit card for any incidentals. We refused and the receptionist said we could leave a $250 CASH deposit instead which would be returned at check out.
We stayed for 5 nights from 1/19-1/24/2020. They gave us $75 in resort credit which can be used at restaurants on site, or at some of their activities. If you stay 6 nights or more they will give you more resort credit $. Also at check in you get some coupons, each worth 2 bottles of free water per day. If you use the bottles of water they put in your room they will charge you $8 a bottle.
The entire hotel is falling to bits. It’s dirty and disgusting. Old ripped broken furniture in common areas, and the A/C turned up so high it felt like you were entering a freezer. All the guests we spoke to complained about it but nothing changed. Unfortunately the worst was yet to come in our room 5119. We booked a King bed with a Terrace View. Let me explain that “Terrace View” means you look over the road, and the roofs of a vast section of industrial buildings. Absolutely horrible. We had holes in our stained bed sheets and in the thin pieces of cloth they call towels. Everything was gross and dirty. There was a large blood stain on the carpet, the lamp shades were broken, and the bathroom still had hairs (not ours) on the floor even after being “cleaned”. On our first night we turned down the sheets and found that the whole bed was filled with sand!!! We called housekeeping to complain and 2 wonderful Bahamian ladies immediately turned up to our room to replace the sheets. While they were doing that I noticed that none of the sheets actually fitted the bed. They were all too short.
We tried to think positive and ventured out to walk around the property. I have to admit that everything that isn’t The Beach is very beautiful. The Royal was my favorite, but it was way out of our price range. It’s the part of Atlantis that features in all their ads and is really quite stunning. The amazing amount of sea creatures and aquariums was mind blowing, especially the slides that pass through an enormous aquarium filled with sharks. The water park “AquaVenture” is free for Atlantis guests and is a lot of fun. Cruise ship people pay $135 per person to use the water park and they cause the long lines for slides and rides. Luckily we went on a day when there were no cruise ships in port.
The food at Atlantis is exorbitantly over priced, very mediocre, and extremely limited for a vegetarian like myself, and to add insult to injury they add 12% VAT and 15% tip to your bill.
We were looking forward to the trip of a lifetime but were sorely disappointed. You’ve been warned. Read less

Pools were clean and lifegaurds paid very close attention to guests. Our family loved the river rapids ride. We always felt very safe as there was staff allover. We went during spring break so it was very loud in the hallways late at night. Also our visit was during the Corona virus and there was plenty of hand sanitizing stations available . I would visit with family again we had a great time. Read less

The beach tower rooms have been refurbished and are nice and clean. I like the rooms better than the royal which are more expensive and not as new. The beaches at Atlantis are world class and I always feel thankful for being able to experience them and share them with friends and family.

I’m not sure about the reviews I read but I can assure you we had an incredibly nice stay without complaints. I understand they do have a few issues with the room keys but that’s technology for you. We haven’t been to the Resort in 10 plus years but we will definitely be returning again soon. Zero luck in the casino the entire week so hopefully next trip we hit it right so I can spend even more money at the luxury shops :) Read less

The buildings were built in the 60s, per the maint person that came to look at our TV volume issue (2x), however, they have definitely been upgraded. Reading some reviews prior to our flight, I have no idea why some people had such criticism related to this hotel. The only issue we had that caused major inconvenience was from the key and lock malfunctioning and caused us to wait a few hours to have our own personal access, we had to be let in 3x. There was no urgency on their end in resolving but ultimately gave a generous room credit for the inconvenience. The food at Olives is highly recommended-- the cowboy steak, it is enough for 2. Don't get the "flat" water, it's $10/bottle. Smoking is allowed in casino and for those that aren't used to that, you will notice immediately, but it is not overwhelming. We suggest getting off the resort to visit downtown Nassau, not so much for the "tiki hut" style establishments near the straw market, but check out Bahama Barrels (winery), Pirates Republic Brewing, Graycliff, and Goldies Conch House. Overall, we were pleased with the cleanliness, housekeeping was ALWAYS around nearby. The outdoors are impeccable. Impressive amt of marine life under the care of the Atlantis. I'm not sure I would recommend the $ to stay at Cove-- you're not in room a lot. Water vouchers are handy!! Read less
