I would recommend the Starfish to family and friends due to the locstion, quality of the service and the support of the staff. The food was also of a high standard. I also got to see the island when I was driven around by the rep.

Just got back from 10 days at this hotel. As everyone says the rooms are a bit dated but that’s no issue as no one goes on holiday to sit in their room. Saying that, the beds, bedding and pillows were exceptionally comfortable and seemed brand new. The hotel despite being a bit dated, it very clean. The pool area is one of the nicest and cleanest I’ve seen. The beds are rattan with mattresses and they have plenty of the double sun beds, there are always enough so you don’t get people ‘reserving’ them. The pool is quite small and shallow but it’s good for a quick dip to cool off. I would say they are the best quality and most comfortable sun beds I’ve ever seen. The beach is very clean and sun beds with umbrellas are put out each morning, there was always enough during our stay however it did get busier. There is no expectation to request the sun beds are put out for you and then tip someone, as most days the sun beds are put out whilst breakfast takes place. The guys who work in the hut who manage the sun beds and the water sports are very friendly. There are paddle boards, kayaks, snorkels etc that can all be taken out free of charge. You can snorkel directly in front of the hotel and see a loads of tropical fish, and you can kayak out about 100 metres and sometimes see the turtles! The food was more limited than other all inclusive hotels I’ve been to but everything that I ate was very nice and I never went hungry. The cocktails are made with real fruit rather than purée etc, and they are happy to make any cocktail you want. The only negative points would be that one of the female chefs is the rudest staff member I’ve ever met. I heard another customer ask for a cheese toastie at lunch because everything being cooked was meat, and the chef said “you can have something off the menu or get stuffed” (and she wasn’t joking). The only other issue we had was that one night the hotel hosted a private event that appeared to be catered for, and it was one of the ‘al a carte’ nights in the restaurant - we waited forever to be have our order taken and when we did it took forever to come, likewise we ordered some drinks to table that never came. It felt like they under-staffed the restaurant because they were hosting a private event. Finally, on the last few days a few school groups arrived which was fine as they weren’t disruptive and are also paying customers however I felt that the hotel struggled to cater for them all and the other customers and a 2 min wait for food turned into a 25 min wait, however that was only on our last few days. Overall, 99% of the staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel is in a prime location with a stunning beach on the platinum coast and it’s a good value hotel. I would certainly go back. Please see them when you arrive. This place is three stars but I give it 5 stars for food and service. Check in was smooth and friendly. Pool are was stunning and the beach was gorgeous. One and only drawback is the people feeding the mongoose, DON’T !!! that causes them to want and expect food at the table which is annoying. I had amazing few days and would recommend this hotel to anyone and plan to return. Read less

I just returned from 6 days at the Starfish Discovery Bay. I booked it because of the price, it was all inclusive, and it was on the west coast. I am definitely happy I did. It is definitely a 3-star resort. Needs updates. Apparently they are tearing down and rebuilding . Which is too bad because it will drive the price up. My room was spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable. The AC was working overtime and the mini fridge was very cold as well. The bathroom was dated. But water pressure good and water was hot! The beach is immaculate. It’s a 5 star beach! Plenty of loungers and umbrellas for all. The sea is calm and beautiful. The pool area had super comfortable loungers and was refreshing. It was shallow. About waist deep. I didn’t spend very much time there because the beach was too fab. There are locals that come up to sell you things along this stretch, but no one hassles you. I was lucky enough to book a glass bottom boat ride right at the beach with a few other guests. The boat picked us up and dropped us off right there. The staff was warm and friendly. I was travelling alone and most of the male staff were keeping an eye out on me. When an unknown local approached trying to sell Me something, they told him to leave me alone! The food, was very good. Options very limited, but everything I had was excellent. The dinners are usually buffet, but they throw in a few a la cartes on certain nights. Those dinners were lovely. If you eat late enough, you can have dinner while the live music is playing. Very pleasant. The breakfast and lunch were great as well. With such a small hotel, I guess they make fewer items, but they were good so no complaints from me:) The location is excellent. I have never stayed on the west coast before, only gone for the day. I’m so glad I did! It’s a welcome change of pace from the south coast and the water is much calmer. Also being right in Holetown you can walk anywhere. Tons of cute bars and restaurants and shops in walking distance. It’s all inclusive, but having the grocery and wine store close by was nice. Bought a few snacks, and a bottle of Prosecco. Sparkling wine not part of all inclusive. Ultimately it’s a 3 star facility, on a 5 star beach with friendly great service. I would recommend a visit before they rebuild. I really enjoyed my stay.
