We could hear the waves it helped us fall asleep at night. The majority of the staff works really heard and on top of things. Very friendly and helpful. The food was very good always fresh fruits, a la carte was delicious and presented at a gourmet level, they even had a birthday celebration for me, it was a nice surprise. The landscaping was well maintained. The only issue was with the young man controlling the exchange of the beach towels. Overbearing.to the point been rude to customers.Even told us look at the board it says 9:00, told him it's now 2:30pm still no towels. So we went back at 3:45pm told us the Sign says 4:00pm even though we watched him bring towels over. The beach just beautiful. Just got back and already miss Barbados. It will be sad to see one of the Last mature resorts been demolished. We look for this type of relaxing vacation. Big thank you! Also the manager's party, impressed. Read less

A bit late with this review as we stayed here in September 2019. We booked this knowing that it was due to be renovated in early 2020 and it was a very good price for 6 of us. Yes it is a bit run down and in need of a revamp, but having stayed in other hotels in Barbados it wasn't as bad as we feared. The rooms were ok, bathrooms and showers adequate for our needs. The food was ok, nothing spectacular but we didn't go hungry. We found most of the staff to be friendly and helpful, and if we chatted to them they seemed to go the extra mile. The beach and sea amazing, great snorkling right from the shore. Yes there were beach vendors but if not interested a simple 'no thank you' was enough. The hotel is in a fantastic position in holetown with shops and a supermarket within easy walking distance. A tribe of monkeys made early morning walks special, watching them playing and with the babies. Mongooses run around the grounds and are quite cute apart from seeing them catch and eat a bird! We never had a problem getting a bed on the beach or by the pool although there were always some who reserved them at silly o clock before breakfast! We would go back but fear that after the refurb it will be out of our budget. There was entrainment on 3 of our 7 nights and if you joined in was fun but lots of guests didn't, which was a shame. All in all a great holiday with lots of special memories Read less

The hotel was small, which made it more personal to other all inclusive that I have stayed in. The food choice was less than I had expected from previous all inclusive resorts but it was beautifully cooked and there was definitely enough choice. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The only issues we found was the lack on sunbeams on certain days - although they say they will remove items from reserved sun-beds this never happened. The beach, however was lovely and we snorkeled directly off the beach with plenty of fish to see, and on the day we took the kayak out even spotted turtles. The hotel itself is tired, but we found out that it is closing at the end of April, so hasn't had any money spent on it; this is a real shame as we spoke to many returning customers who feel that it will be replaced by something large and overpriced - we would certainly have booked to be return customer. Overall a fabulous holiday - and will return to Barbados and Holetown - just a shame the hotel will not be there. Read less

Opened in 1967 now finally at the end of it's useful life, Discovery Bay is due to be demolished next spring. Reminds me of all the fabulous old hotels i have stayed in on my travels. Yes its on its last legs but the staff have made it a special place for us to come back five years in a row . Along with dozens of other regular repeater guests holidaying before Christmas, we all know that Discovery Bay is the best value hotel in Barbados. Set around a large garden in a fabulous location and surrounded by the best beaches, c'mon what's not to love!. The staff are always lovely to us and when things do go wrong, are on hand to do their very best to put things right for us. Not an easy job to work in a hotel desperately in need of renovation, but if you dont like it go next door and pay double! Its a bit strange there are still no plans available for the redevelopment at this current time but i do hope it comes back as an affordable hotel...not an up market over priced resort or even worse the land gets sold off for millon dollar condos. This year the food was just fine but if you fancy a change pop across the road to the various sensible priced restaurants in the Lime Grove Centre or Just Grillin down the road. All highly recomended. The hotel was at full capacity not surprisingly as regulars return for one last time and extra beds for the beach were bought in and everyone was accomodated. We made the usual boat trip and this time we went with Lorenzo and his dad Kenrick who skippered a lovely little boat with a clean glass bottom and proved to be an entertaing tour guide. Highly recomended for a morning turtle spotting trip and a snorkel over the reefs and wrecks around the bay. So all there is left to say is thanks again from Richard & Tamara to Kathy and her staff for another fantastic holiday at Discovery Bay. We hope they all find gameful employment elsewhere and that the Starfish Resorts management fully appreciate what the staff have done to keep Discover Bay such a great friendly holiday destination over the years. We asked for housekeeping and the informed us that housekeeping had left for the day. We asked for clean sheets and changed the bed ourselves. We paid for inclusive but couldn’t use it and didn’t get our money back. No gym. The hotel is being demolished in a couple of months and the service and structure is horrible. The place should be shut down. Read less
