Hotel Saratoga

Havana, Cuba

The hotel

In the thick of it all, this historic Havana hotel sits mere metres from The Capitol building, with incredible views over its much-photographed dome from the rooftop’s pool, cocktail, and dining terrace. It’s not just the location that draws crowds to Hotel Saratoga (although, being just 200m from Gran Teatro de la Habana and the Partagas Cigar Factory, and 2km from the Malecón, its address is a big bonus), the hotel also entices with the traditional touches in its rooms, the seductive décor of its Anacaona restaurant, the grandeur of social spaces like Bar Mezzanine, and the bay and city views from its rooftop terrace.

Great views over the city from this rooftop bar. Lovely views in the evening when the city lights up. Many different cocktails on offer and light snacks available. We stayed here for a few nights whilst in Havana and would certainly recommend to others

Beautiful lobby and public spaces, though $500 for interior, no view room speaks to Cuba's lack of price/value relationship! Beautiful lobby and public spaces, though $500 for interior, no view room speaks to Cuba's lack of price/value relationship! This is the best hotel experience after the newly built Kempinski but room was drab, dated and dark. I had no hot water in the room but there was an extensive array of cheap local amenities (even cologne) that were fun,,,, slippers, a safe and a rock hard mattress with stiff sheets. Extensive breakfast buffet was included and notably high quality for Cuba, The rooftop bar offers great views and typical drink menu. The service staff were very stiff and formal but the hotel is very well located in the heart of old Havana near the capital. Read less

This is a beautiful property. The restaurants, bar and reception were all quite charming and you were invited to think of the days when Havana was booming. I particularly enjoyed sitting out on the balcony and observing the locals go about their business. The spectacular capitol building and opera house on the right and old crumbling buildings on the left. It was a priceless observation point. The doormen were always friendly and helpful but the rest of the staff not so much but I gather that this is the standard in Havana. The waitresses at breakfast were more interested in chatting than walking around to make sure guests were served. The male wait staff were much more efficient and helpful. The bathrooms were poorly lit but I gather this is to hide the fact that the tiles are old and the grout discolored. It was well appointed but damp and dated. The drain in the shower did not drain well so you showered in waste water. I did not report it as I read other reviewers noted the same issue. The pool area lacked ambience and style. The room was huge and comfortable and always well cleaned. We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and it was easy to walk to good restaurants, see the sights, stroll through the streets and get a good feel of Havana. Breakfast was the same thing every morning and although they have an a la carte menu for breakfast it is basically the same things on the buffet plated and served to you. The wifi worked well and this and the location was why we stayed at this hotel and it delivered on those 2 aspects. Read less

This is a restored old Havana property. Food and service were great. Not the best maintained when it came to bathroom in rooms and mold around air vent. Roof view amazing but pool is showing its age and doesn’t look well maintained. Great location.

A very 'Cuban' hotel in that Serivce is on the slow side and often they don't have items on the menu. Receptionists were not very friendly or helpful at all, rest of the staff were great. Often you feel that the receptionists cannot be bothered. I stayed here 2 nights and 2 nights at Manzana - Kempenski, Kempenski is much, much better. The breakfast at Saratoga is basic in comparison and the rooftop pool and atmosphere at Saratoga is not anywhere near the level of the other property. Room is a good size but needs an upgrade and has a musty smell all the time. If I were to return I would not stay here but rather the Kempenski or the Park Cental hotel. Read less
