Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

The hotel

Aptly named, this Unlimited-Luxury® resort is a dream come true! Almost everything is included, including gourmet meals, top-shelf drinks and sporting amenities galore. Accommodation is also second to none, each room is graciously appointed and luxurious equipped with plenty of space to relax in. Make your holiday extra special and upgrade to a room that includes Preferred Club Privileges, you’ll feel like a true VIP! Water sports are on the agenda all day every day. There are also plenty of dry-land activities but the jewel in the crown has got to be the free-form pool, it’s incredible. One of the largest in the Dominican Republic, it stretches from the lobby all the way down to the pristine beach and is sure to be a hit with just about everyone. A visit (or two) to the world-class spa is a must, indulge in a chocolate body wrap or enjoy a water lily after-sun soothing wrap — sublime! The kids are in for a treat too. At the Explorer’s Club time flies with treasure hunts to keep them busy, sandcastle contests, hiking and arts and crafts. Teens aren’t left out either; they’ve their very own place to hang — the Core Zone — complete with rock climbing wall, basketball, video games and disco nights. The dining at Dreams is unrivalled; there are so many restaurants to choose from. As for the bars, there are ten of them, some cosy and laid-back, others with a more happening vibe. And last but not least, don your glad rags and head to the casino for a night full of sophistication and a sprinkle of good luck.

One of the complaints of this resort is it's due for an upgrade. Don't disagree. Dreams is older and it shows. But for me, that's part of the allure. It's kind of shabby chic island living that felt POSITIVELY right. I thought the resort was top notch. The beach was awesome. Not as many beach lice hogging chairs and cabanas as I've seen at other resorts. We took long, long beach walks. The resort’s meandering pool was so nice and relaxing. Our room was great as was the location of the room in the resort. I would always recommend Building 6. The Preferred Club was FIRST rate. Seriously, the Preferred upgrade is so, so, so worth it! The staff throughout the resort was friendly, engaging, helpful and attentive. I thought the service was excellent to the point where for the first time in a long time, I almost ran out of tip money. A shout out to Daniel in the Preferred Club and Guillermo (sp?) in the Oceana. Food was OK but that’s alright. Not bad but nothing to write home about though the Teppanyaki grill at Himitsu was fabulous – we went twice! Not much for entertainment but again no complaints there…we were there to decompress, relax and watch life meander past us…which is so easy with a nice, cold beer in hand. The Preferred Club check in process was less than desirable. I felt mishandled especially with respect to my privacy/security. And AMSTAR was HORRID! My travel agent and Apple Vacations are addressing AMSTAR. Bottom line- I'd go back to Dreams in a heartbeat and hope to return. I'd handle the check in process differently and avoid AMSTAR like the plague. Read less

We had a swim up room which was spotless and located just in the middle in building 3. The room service would come twice a day to make sure we had everything we needed. Everyone was very helpful and nice. Each night we would participate in some of the entertainment activities. For dinner we dined at the world buffet, trattoria, Portofinio, steak house and Oceana. Lunch was always small at the beach grill and breakfast we preferred at the world buffet. On one rainy day we decided to spend the day in the spa. It was a great experience! Definitely would love to come again! I really liked the low key island feel! Everything was easy accessible and felt like one big family. We drove through some of the other resorts and they were way too flashy and too Las Vegas style for us. Read less

First time in DR and first time at this resort. Word to the wise - there are no elevators in the buildings!!! Only in the main building where the lobby/registration desk is, so be prepared to do your steps! Originally in 2nd floor room in building 3, which was fine. However after some mattress issues and a huge leak in our bathroom from the bathtub from the room above ours, we ended up relocating to a king suite in building 2. Still had very soft mattress there, but managed to deal with it. The staff is very friendly and helpful and constantly busy. The grounds were nice and well kept, but not as pretty and colorful as other tropical places I've been to. We were told that they had flamingo's everywhere at the resort- NOT TRUE!!! What they have is 3 flamingos that roam all over the resort, so you see the same 3 everywhere. They are entertaining and not afraid of people. The food is average and they do have a large selection. Most things at the buffet seemed bland, which I get - spicy food is not for everyone, but the dishes could have benefitted from salt and pepper at least. We dined at the hibachi place and the Italian place, both were good and worth the visit. Plenty of choices for adult beverages, although the most popular were rum-based. Those seemed watered down, so we usually drank vodka or gin drinks, or wine. We had an unusual amount of rain during our stay, and the first several days were extremely windy too. When we were able to get out to the pool and beach, we did not have too much trouble finding chairs to lounge in. The rooms are decent but definitely need updating, we had bad mattresses in both rooms, our furniture was broken (dresser leg broke and if you opened the drawers the entire dresser listed to one side), and our built in cupboard refused to stay shut. We visited their casino, which is tiny, had about 12 slot machines and maybe 6 roulette and card tables. Saw 2 of their evening shows, which were decent. Overall an average place, definitely not horrible but not the best either. Read less

Simon (happy happy) at breakfast buffet along with all staff, cheerful, joking while doing a fantastic job set the tone for a Fabulous day. Food -Hot 100s of choices plus bloody Mary's and mimosas! No need to save chairs, there are plenty as pool meanders the length of resort. The BARacuda was our favorite place to try new drinks. Pedro & Wrangler (?) Were happy, fast did a great job! Will be making the Cucumbericius at home! The flamingos that wander about were a hit must have taken a 100 pics. Lots of choices for lunch. Wish they served French fries or chips with burgers. Again lots of Choices for dinner. Would return here and highly recommend it. Read less
