Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

The hotel

Aptly named, this Unlimited-Luxury® resort is a dream come true! Almost everything is included, including gourmet meals, top-shelf drinks and sporting amenities galore. Accommodation is also second to none, each room is graciously appointed and luxurious equipped with plenty of space to relax in. Make your holiday extra special and upgrade to a room that includes Preferred Club Privileges, you’ll feel like a true VIP! Water sports are on the agenda all day every day. There are also plenty of dry-land activities but the jewel in the crown has got to be the free-form pool, it’s incredible. One of the largest in the Dominican Republic, it stretches from the lobby all the way down to the pristine beach and is sure to be a hit with just about everyone. A visit (or two) to the world-class spa is a must, indulge in a chocolate body wrap or enjoy a water lily after-sun soothing wrap — sublime! The kids are in for a treat too. At the Explorer’s Club time flies with treasure hunts to keep them busy, sandcastle contests, hiking and arts and crafts. Teens aren’t left out either; they’ve their very own place to hang — the Core Zone — complete with rock climbing wall, basketball, video games and disco nights. The dining at Dreams is unrivalled; there are so many restaurants to choose from. As for the bars, there are ten of them, some cosy and laid-back, others with a more happening vibe. And last but not least, don your glad rags and head to the casino for a night full of sophistication and a sprinkle of good luck.

Beautiful scenery and very friendly staff members. The small events were fun to attend to see. The singer Honey sings beautifully and angel is an amazing dancer, and chocolate is a fun person to be around.

Risel (Portofino), Omar (Beach), Michael (Beach), Robert ( lobby bar) are all fantastico. Strong and delicious drinks Highly recommend, and tip your bartender! Risel is the best! He found me at breakfast and got me a bloody mary.

We just returned from a 7 night stay. We stayed in the Preferred Club Deluxe Family room. This was essentially 2 rooms (1 king bed and 2 double beds) with the connection door unlocked. Our first room had a leak in the bathroom ceiling and since it was dripping on me while I dried my hair I was a bit concerned. Maintenance was sent up and after looking at it for ten minutes he told me nothing was wrong. Luckily we were part of the Preferred Club and I was able to reach out to them directly for assistance. We were offered another room on the opposite side of the property. This wouldn’t work since we would loose visibility of the pool and we specifically asked for a pool room to keep an eye on the kids. The Preferred Club concierge was able to secure us a pool room view but we had to wait until the next day to move. While he was helpful and did get us moved to a good location I find it odd that there was a shortage of rooms since the hotel is supposedly only at 25% capacity. The rooms themselves were good. Nothing fancy and very dated but they were clean and comfortable. Having two bathrooms was a major plus. Food - very unimpressive. We are no where near foodies and are typically easy to please but honestly it was all just blah. 2-3 restaurants were open each night. The buffet was never open for dinner. Since they don’t take reservations for any restaurants there was always a long wait. Twice we were told to come back in a half hour just to get a beeper. Once we had a beeper it was typically an hour wait. Menus are small which is fine but often items were unavailable. When you have 2 salads and one hot appetizer on the menu and your always out of the hot item it’s a bit frustrating. Waitstaff was always rushing. At times they started to walk away before we were even done speaking. Plates were literally run over by servers and dropped on the table. Dessert was a huge let down. No matter what the item was called it was always some type of mouse or sliver of cake with zero flavor. Each only consisting of about two bites. Pool -the pool was clean and refreshing. There were always chairs available but never once did I see waitstaff. If you wanted a drink you had to leave the pool and walk to a bar. Beach - beautiful! Activities- this is a 50/50. When they actually held scheduled events, they were great however, about 25% of the events we went to didn’t happen. This is extremely disappointing when you get your kids out of the pool and dried off to only get there and there be no sign of the event happening. Preferred Club - if we had not booked this level, I think I would be completely disappointed in our trip. The extras we were entitled to is what saved it. The lounge was great. They always had snacks and premium liquor. The concierge and bar tenders were fabulous. Any questions we had were quickly answered. This level also gives you access to a preferred section of the beach with beach beds and wait staff. Everything in this area was great. Servers were quick and the beds were super relaxing. In the end, we enjoyed our vacation because we made the most of it but we will not be returning nor would I recommend it to friends and family. Read less

Overall a good family trip for spring break! Safe for teens to have their own fun and freedom, beautiful beach with beach beds (preferred section) for our adults to relax. *Grounds 10/10 Beautiful! Well maintained and lush. *Beach 9/10 Lovely sand, a little seaweed (but they rake it daily), sections for swimming and a protected section for marine life. Very walkable toward the other resorts. *Staff 10/10- All very friendly and genuinely helpful. Always someone wanting to make our trip more fun and less stressful. *Rooms 7/10- Dated, but clean. Like others have said, you don’t spend much time there so it’s ok, but this property has to be one of the older resorts in the Dreams family and it shows. A drawback, but not a deal breaker. *Food 5/10- It’s fine. Nothing I would rave about, nothing that was really problematic. This is not a resort for “foodies.” I feel like it’s what they think Americans, Canadians and some Europeans like, but overall pretty meh. You won’t starve, but you probably won’t gain weight from food. The drinks on the other hand are good. Bring your own insulated cup! Love all of the fresh fruit. Room service has a very limited menu and takes a long time. *Activities 8/10- I think my score would be higher if the activities hadn’t been limited because of COVID and Holy Week. The activities team is super hard working! We loved the shows and wish occupancy had been high enough to warrant shows every night. The circus one was particularly fun! *Teens 10/10- This may depend on your teen and other teens there, but our 15yo found new friends on day one and they hung out all week as a group! She had a GREAT time! It was very safe (we did set some ground rules of course.) They played beach volleyball, water polo, silent disco, karaoke and more! They did not spend much time at the actual teen club, but again, that will vary depending on who else is there that week. *preferred club 10/10- Ok, this score is based solely on the beach bed, access to Oceana for breakfast and lunch and the preferred club building. I am a morning person so was able to secure one of those sweet beach beds every day and it was AMAZING!! Since room service was slow and limited, breakfast at Oceana was so good! The view of the ocean while I read the news and had my morning coffee with huevos rancheros, cafe con leche and watermelon juice was a highlight of my day every day! The preferred club building was centrally located, always had snacks that changed depending on the time of day, a great bar and a very helpful concierge. They really made you feel wall taken care of! *COVID protocols- 9/10 They have a great set of protocols in place and it feels very safe. Some of the guests don’t always follow the protocols, but I actually think it’s worse in the US. All of the open air buildings are also great. The mandatory test needed to get back in the US was very well organized and fast. I appreciate their commitment to safety! Overall I would recommend! It isn’t super fancy, but very nice, easy going and relaxing. Read less
