Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

The hotel

Aptly named, this Unlimited-Luxury® resort is a dream come true! Almost everything is included, including gourmet meals, top-shelf drinks and sporting amenities galore. Accommodation is also second to none, each room is graciously appointed and luxurious equipped with plenty of space to relax in. Make your holiday extra special and upgrade to a room that includes Preferred Club Privileges, you’ll feel like a true VIP! Water sports are on the agenda all day every day. There are also plenty of dry-land activities but the jewel in the crown has got to be the free-form pool, it’s incredible. One of the largest in the Dominican Republic, it stretches from the lobby all the way down to the pristine beach and is sure to be a hit with just about everyone. A visit (or two) to the world-class spa is a must, indulge in a chocolate body wrap or enjoy a water lily after-sun soothing wrap — sublime! The kids are in for a treat too. At the Explorer’s Club time flies with treasure hunts to keep them busy, sandcastle contests, hiking and arts and crafts. Teens aren’t left out either; they’ve their very own place to hang — the Core Zone — complete with rock climbing wall, basketball, video games and disco nights. The dining at Dreams is unrivalled; there are so many restaurants to choose from. As for the bars, there are ten of them, some cosy and laid-back, others with a more happening vibe. And last but not least, don your glad rags and head to the casino for a night full of sophistication and a sprinkle of good luck.

Firstly I must start by apologising for taking so long to post my review. My wife, myself and our three and a half year old granddaughter returned two weeks ago from a seventeen night holiday at DPC, it was our ninth visit and our granddaughter's third visit to the hotel. I would like to thank the General Manager, Jorge; Residential Manager, Alexis and Rooms Division Manager, Everett, for their hospitality and warm welcomes. I also would like to thank Aracelis and her team from the Preferred Club for all of their help, particularly in making my wife's 60th birthday so special, the flowers; balloons and special dinner were superb, thank you so much. I must also thank all of the restaurant managers; hostesses and waiters for all of your service, as always it was a pleasure. The staff at the hotel offer an outstanding level of service and do everything to make guest experiences as good as possible. With high levels of food hygiene and choice of dinning options, together with the overall cleanliness, coupled with beautiful gardens; a wonderful swimming pool and great beach; the hotel has much to offer any guest of all ages and requirements. We have had many wonderful times at the hotel and look forward to returning in the future to meet our friends from the Dominican Republic. Best wishes to everyone at DPC, L, S and P Read less

FYI, they have nothing to do with where you are staying and are trying to sell you a travel club that is like a timeshare. If you do stay here, I would recommend going in dead of winter, we went in October and just melted every time we went out. I would also recommend upgrading to the premium level which gets you better choices in drinks and beach location. Don't leave the resort unless it is a scheduled trip the area is very dangers but safe on the resort and excursion. Read less

My family and I loved our stay at Dreams Punta Cana. The best part about Dreams is the Entertainment staff, especially Pucca and Chocolate. Throughout the day, there is a schedule of activities led by staff members, including bean bag tosses, paddle board yoga, Zumba classes, painting, and much more. At night, the staff will also lead the guests in Latin dance outside on the Plaza. Pucca and Chocolate were dedicated to making these activities feel so special for my family and me. They learned all 6 of our names on the first day and never forgot them, and always checked in to make sure our trip was going well. I saw them doing this with other families too. I highly recommend staying at Dreams Punta Cana because of the welcoming staff. **The reason I only give this place 4 stars is that the rooms are a little out-dated and the food was not our favorite. However, we never spent any time in the room because we were always out at the pool or in the main building. So we didn't feel that the rooms inhibited our trip at all.** Read less

Our stay left me with mixed feelings. Cigar smokers read down on this review!! Beautiful property and well groomed. Beach is beautiful and can't believe how well maintained it is. Food was great at all the locations we tried with some of the servers being excellent while others not so much. Water bottles were literally "on tap" everywhere which was great compared to some other properties we've been to and have no problem requesting as many bottles as you need. The preferred club is a must if you don't want to walk for miles (property is massive) and worth the extra cost. The "convenient" restaurants are all preferred only which could get frustrating if some members in your party are not preferred. Note: they intentionally limit the more expensive alcohol by putting up half bottles or only getting a case of Corona in and then say they are all out for the day after it runs out - three nights in a row they only had a third of a bottle of scotch that was always magically replaced the next day by another bottle also filled a third of the way up and ran out of Corona every day before 5 pm in the lounge. Also of note, you can only get top shelf alcohol at the one preferred location which depending on where you set up for the day can get a bit annoying if you plan to stick to top shelf for the duration of your stay. The rooms were a mixed bag of good and bad. The air conditioning in the room would not go below 75 degrees in any of the 3 rooms in our party and the in room refrigerators were all on their last legs struggling to cool drinks down. Unfortunately my "honeymoon suite" was positioned directly next to the stairs with no privacy when sitting out there (could literally jump the railing and be on our balcony). In general, none of the rooms are private due to how the buildings are staggered. On a number of occasions the "lock" for the sliding door (literally a hole in the door with this metal stick that you put in) was half way engaged by the cleaning staff which left our room effectively unlocked. Luckily we had no issues because of it but still makes me nervous given the easy access from the outside stairs. The beds while comfortable were on the stiffer side (positive for me) but did give one member of our party some difficulty sleeping. The cleaning staff was also a bit inconsistent with the time of day they would come to tidy up (one instance was at 9:30pm for the first cleaning) and they did not consistently replace towels that were placed on the floor, opting to fold and rehang them - if they are still clean, most folks rehang themselves. In general, I was a bit annoyed by all the vendors that are on the property (includes the high pressure sales for the "preferred club" memberships) from the moment you walk in the door. Depending on the time of day, they strategically place themselves in areas everyone must walk by and are in constant sales mode with "free gifts" and the sob stories of hard times in the DR. Personally I go on vacation to relax, not to be hassled throughout the day by street vendors and "deals" on parasailing or snorkeling. AM Resorts should seriously reconsider their up-selling approach... Cigar smokers: Beware of BOTH onsite cigar vendors (in lobby and by the pool) selling nearly all fake Cuban cigars at outrageous prices. I say nearly because there are some boxes mixed in there that seems like they are legitimate but are mixed between obvious fakes. Can't believe the hotel allows this but can already hear the response from them of "oh,it's an outside vendor". Maybe you should screen your vendors a little better as they represent your company when they sell on your property. When weighing everything out, I come to an "average" rating. Read less
