Best resort I have ever stayed in. Food was excellent, staff very friendly/helpful. I would definitely go back and I have never said that about a resort before. Rooms were spacious and cleaned right away.

We chose Excellence Punta Cana as our destination after a magical experience at another Excellence property (Excellence Riviera Cancun) and it set our standards super high. Excellence Punta Cana did not disappoint! Excellence Punta Cana provides such an excellent value that you can't find anywhere else in the Caribbean. We stayed from November 3-10 in an Excellence Club Garden/Mountain view Jr. Suite and traveled with another couple. We have stayed at a number of all-inclusives in Mexico but this was our first time traveling to the DR. In short, this resort is amazing and if you're on the fence, BOOK IT!! I am a details person and do a ton of research so I like to give back once our trip is over so I've included details about each aspect of our stay below. Check In: Check In was a breeze. As silly as it sounds, this is one of the biggest perks of Club for us. After a long day of traveling there's nothing like having a drink sitting on a soft couch and being checked into your room in under 5 minutes. The bell boy was very quick to bring our bags and happy to do so. Beach: The beach here is AMAZING! This was the best beach that we had been to hands down. The water is a beautiful turquoise color and the beach is huge! The water is rough but we enjoyed that for a change and my husband had a great time playing in the waves. We had red flags each day except for the day we left which had yellow. Since we were Club we spent all of our time on that side of the beach. The first few days we found spots near the ropes dividing the Club/Non-Club sides but found service to be a bit sparse. We then grabbed some loungers close to the concierge and found service to be much better there! Towels were a little hard to come by especially our first couple of days here. But the beach concierge seemed to have the biggest stash. Juan Carlos is the man! He took such good care of us throughout the day and is such an asset to the team here. Since we were traveling with another couple we really enjoyed the large palpas that fit all 4 of us which we had not seen at other resorts. Besides the staff, the beach was our favorite part of this vacation. There was very minimal seaweed and what was there was cleared early in the morning. Pools: We are beach people so we didn't spend a ton of time in the pools. But we did often take a dip in the afternoons to cool off and would have a few drinks with some friends in the Club pool near the beach. We didn't ever make it to the Cascade Pool or the main pool. The service again was excellent at the Club pool! Roberto took great care of us here. Drink service was super fast! The pools were pretty quiet in the mornings but would liven up in the afternoon. There were plenty of loungers and there seemed to be quite a few floats available. We brought our own with us but never really saw the need to use them. The main pool looked awesome and I'm kind of bummed that we never made it over there. It was neat that you could see the ocean from really any part of it. Rooms: We stayed in a Club Jr. Suite that overlooked the Cascade Pool in building 4. I was hoping to possibly upgrade to an Oceanview Suite once we arrived (they look divine!) but they had sold out at the last minute which was fine. Since we were traveling with friends we didn't spend nearly any time in the room anyway! If I'm being completely honest the room was the least favorite part of our stay. Maybe we'd been spoiled by the rooms at ERC but some of the finishings were rough (messy caulk near the sink and the walls had separated in the corner near the toilet). The bed sheets had holes and stains. We also didn't feel like housekeeping was up to normal Excellence standards. The floor was not swept all week and in a beach environment where we will naturally track in sand was frustrating. Turndown service wouldn't replace any of the used towels that they took. This sometimes left us with no hand towels until housekeeping came the next day. I also just disliked the shower as it wasn't functional. This is obviously a preference thing and others may love it but the waterfall head, while aesthetically pleasing was a little hard to maneuver especially with the only shelf to store soaps and shampoos on the far side. When we return I will be bringing another suction cup shelf to use. We were on the top floor and the AC seemed like it had a bit of a hard time keeping up. We were comfortable but never too cool. I understand it's the tropics and expect my room to be a bit humid but just wish the AC would have kept the room just a tad cooler. I know this is a common complaint in the Caribbean but we'd never run into this problem. We used the tub once during our stay and it was nice and functioned well. As a tip, the rooms have electronic buttons instead of the old-fashioned Do not Disturb door hangars. Use this!! Make sure to press the button for service before leaving to make sure that housekeeping enters if you are wanting service. Housekeeping turns these buttons off once they have been in so I imagine it's easy to get missed if the button hasn't been on in the first place. None of my gripes here in the long run had a negative affect on our trip, just didn't really feel like the room as a whole was up to the same standards as the rest of the resort. Staff: All of the staff we encountered here were amazing. This is what keeps us coming back to Excellence properties. You won't get treated better anywhere else, I promise! They definitely make the trip. From the front desk to the bar staff to the grounds crew, everyone was great. One of our first couple of days we made it to the pool late in the day and there were no more towels at the pool concierge so our drink waiter went to the beach to grab some for us! As stated above we made really great friends with Juan Carlos at the beach and Roberto at the pool! Both were on top of everything and would do anything to make your day special. We enjoyed seeing Maria and Julio each morning and afternoon at the buffet! They got to know us throughout the week and took such great care of us each time. I'm not sure how they keep up with gathering plates, bringing drinks and all that they do for the buffet. Our favorite waiter was Victor Cancu and our favorite hostess was Hinet! We seemed to follow them to the restaurants they were working each night and made great friends with them thought the week as well. Victor was working next door at Agave one night while we were at The Grill and made sure to stop by and see us. Everyone here is just so incredibly nice and genuine. The grounds crew deserves an extra special shout out as well. I didn't catch any of their names but they were everywhere all the time working on little details that you don't think about. They were always out raking the sand at the beach, fixing tiles in the pool (in a diving mask), literally in the fountains scrubbing them, cleaning the in-pool loungers, painting small hardware in the grass and even swapping out the covers on the chairs in the theater so they could be laundered. The staff is what makes this place so special. Restaurants/Food: Overall we were impressed with the food here! We did the buffet for breakfast and lunch most days just to maximize our beach time rather than doing a sit-down restaurant. Nothing really stood out to us here but also didn't have anything bad. There is so much variety there is always something new to try! We tried Las Olas one day for lunch and just prefer more of a meal than the more snacky food that we saw there. Although the view is incredible! Also if you are Club there is a waiter that will come around and take a food order from you at the beach or pool in the afternoons. We did this a couple of times and I thought it was great. The pizza was awesome and not having to even leave your lounger was perfect. We did Oregano once for lunch and thought the food was very good but again preferred spending time on the beach instead. For dinner, we ate at all restaurants besides Chez Isabelle, Oregano and Flavor Market. We did Magna once for dinner and once for breakfast. The atmosphere there is awesome and definitely feels upscale. Having a view for breakfast was great. We just preferred the speed of the buffet and my husband preferred being able to choose what was in his omelette. Dinner though was great! Some of the portions were small but the food was delicious. The steak was great as well as the surf and turf. Presentation was fantastic. Our overall favorite restaurant was The Grill and we went there twice during our stay. The beef tenderloin was delicious! We did both the hibachi and regular restaurant at Spice. The hibachi is fun and worth doing especially if you have a group. The chef was really a lot of fun. Make sure to make reservations early (starting at 7 AM at the concierge). The regular restaurant was just okay for us the food was not bad but not near the best meal. The ambiance also was my least favorite. We enjoyed The Lobster House as well. I had seen some reviews stating the lobster was disappointing but our group thought it was quite good. I don't care for lobster and got a shrimp pasta dish which was okay. I wish I would have made an entire meal out of the Coconut Shrimp appetizers! So good! Agave was probably our least favorite meal overall. We had a long day when we tried Agave and it just didn't hit home for any of us. My meal (fish tacos) had a great flavor but had a sauce that made my mouth itch which was odd. We loved stopping for snacks at The Sports Bar! I think we ate our weight in cheese fingers and chicken wings! Definitely a great place to stop for a late afternoon or late evening snack! Aroma was just okay. I was really looking forward to Aroma after trying the one at ERC but there was not a large variety of desserts and the ice cream was not as good. We did not try room service so I cannot comment on that. Drinks: All drinks were strong and delicious! I am definitely a tequila person and did miss that aspect of Mexico. The rum is great here but I was tapped out on rum in a few days and stuck to margaritas toward the end of the trip but most bars just have Jose Cuervo though. I've heard the Club bar has Don Julio but didn't feel like hunting it down. Make sure to ask if you want specific liquor! They are happy to give you the better stuff especially if you are Club but you have to ask. Our group had a lot of rum and cokes, sangrias, champagne and wine. Along with the occasional mango tango and miami vice! We thought the house wine was adequate. Entertainment: We found the nightly shows to be just okay. I thought the talent for the Circus show was great but a slower pace. We missed the Queen show and I was really bummed because I did hear that was good. It was nice to get the ocean breeze while watching the shows. The Silent Party though was one of the highlights of our trip! It sounds a little silly but it seriously is so much fun! You listen to music through bluetooth headphones which have different stations tied to different colors so you know what everyone else is listening to. There are 3 music stations and there's really something for everyone. There's a latin channel, an oldies channel and a pop channel. Definitely make sure you hit this at least once during your stay! We also were able to get a pretty large group together and go to the disco one night. It really was a blast! It can be hit or miss depending on how many people go but make some friends and commit to going one night. The DJ was awesome and did a great job of reading the crowd and playing songs we enjoyed. We played a couple of games by the pool and they were a little silly but fun after some drinks and there's always prizes! We didn't stop by the White Party or Dominican Night just due to timing but they looked fun! Spa: The spa was running a special for 50% off an 80 minute couples massage which made it $185. We thought that was very reasonable so we made a visit! It was nice. We did the hydrotherapy as well. The hydrotherapy is worth doing if you've gone Club just since it's already included. The water jets are my favorite as I'm not much of a sauna person. Regardless it's definitely worth the experience and the scalp massage! The couples massage was good and my husband really wanted more of a deep tissue massage and they were able to do that. It was worth what we paid but I'm not sure it would have been worth it at full price. I will note that if you have been to ERC where it is one of the centerpieces of the resort and seen the spa the one at EPC while still beautiful, is a bit underwhelming. Lobby/Grounds: I really enjoyed the open air aspect of the lobby and really the entire resort. It has a super tropical vibe which I appreciate in the Caribbean and gives a more relaxing vibe to the vacation. I won't lie though, I did miss the smell of the lobby that was at ERC but understand it's a tradeoff for having the open air concept. Always being so close to the ocean was amazing and not something you get at many resorts. The triangle layout of the buildings takes a bit to get used to if you are Club but after a day or two we had our bearings. Make sure to stop by the Eco Park and see the flamingos and parrots! Not something that you see everyday at home. There are boxes with leftover bread from the restaurants that you can use to feed the birds! Excellence Club: When we booked it really didn't cost us that much more to upgrade to Club so I really believe that it's worth the upgrade. We really didn't spend much time on the non-Club beach/pool so I can't comment to if there was a difference in service but you'll have a great time either way! The private check-in is a big plus for me as well as the hydrotherapy perk and definitely worth doing! We didn't really use any of the liquor in the room as we were always out and about and the staff makes sure you're never thirsty! Additional Thoughts: We did a photo shoot with the photographer at the resort. It was great! The photos are beautiful and while the initial prices of the photo packages are very pricy, we were able to negotiate the price pretty significantly. We visited the shops at both ends of the resort but both had very similar items. We preferred the shop on the end of the beach near the Excellence Club since it was less overhelming, but there was also less to choose from there. There is a large group of shops on the other end of the resort along with Nancy's massages. We found prices at the shops on site at the resort to be reasonable if you don't like to haggle with the ones on the beach. We used DAT as a transfer company from the airport and they were fantastic! Would recommend them as well. All in all we had a fantastic time. I debated for a long time on whether to book this resort after hearing that it wasn't up to par with the Excellence Resorts in Mexico and in some ways it's not. But it exceeds it in others! It's all a personal preference and I'm really glad that we gave the resort a shot! We will be back for the sheer value that the resort provides. But first we're looking forward to trying another Excellence property! Read less

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or go back. The waves were a little on the larger side so great to hear the sound of the ocean but if you are looking to wade around than use one of the pools. No kids which allows for a nice mature and just fun enough atmosphere. weather was perfect!! Read less

Just returned home from this wonderful resort. Cannot speak highly enough of the service from the General Manager, Manuela Fahringer and all her staff. You’re as good as your weakest link and you would have to look very hard indeed to find one. Fabuloso!
