Ocho Rios, Jamaica

The hotel

This premium All Inclusive adults-only resort offers a spectacular getaway in a wonderful location — only minutes from Jamaica’s biggest and best attractions. However, you may have trouble tearing yourself away from the facilities on-site, because they're pretty impressive too. As well as two epic pools to laze by, you’ve a huge selection of water sports to get stuck into, a well-equipped fitness centre and the gorgeous Radiant Spa, which will leave you feeling, well, radiant of course! The hip and happening Runaway Bay Golf Club is conveniently nearby and guests of the Jewel can take advantage of complimentary green fees — get that swinging arm of yours at the ready! There are multiple dining options too — feel the sand beneath your toes at Aquamarina Beach Bar & Grill (no shoes required) or treat yourself to fine dining at either Platinum, serving delicious dishes such as jerked chicken and seafood ceviche or Moonstone by Dominic for top-notch Italian fare. The accommodation itself is sumptuous — all rooms boast a magnificent 4-poster bed and a perpetually stocked mini-bar (soft drinks only). Upgrade to a room with an ocean view and you’ll think yourself in heaven — or at least the closest thing to it!

The resort overall is nice. Nothing was overcrowded and we were always able To find chairs outside. There were some things that were out of control of the hotel such as the bees and cats. However there are definitely improvements to be made. The WiFi is spotty. It worked best in the bedroom but still went out often, other than that it didn’t work anywhere else. While the staff for the most part was attentive to needs I did call guest services a few times with no answer. The one time I did get a response the ice never showed up. You get a paper in the morning detailing the days entertainment as well as hours of operation for the restaurants - most of the time these weren’t accurate. In fact we found that at least 3 times restaurants, pools, etc were randomly closed and we couldn’t figure out why. We found the hours of places overall to be bizarre. The food itself is just okay. the breakfast was consistently good in the morning as well as the coffee bar. As a side note for anyone who wants to try excursions - the party boat was great. It includes access to the falls, lunch at margaritaville, snorkeling and drinks. the lagoon is an absolute waste of time and money. We also enjoyed the bobsledding at mystic mountain. Overall, it was good. Just not great. Read less

It was ok, not really what I expected. The resort was clean but I thought it was an all exclusive resort. It was like I had to tip every 5 minutes. Elevator was out of service the whole 5 days I was there. Staff was not all friendly and a lil pushy about tipping. Food was ok but not great. Drinks were like cheap alcohol. We had such an amazing stay at the resort! This resort was compact and therefore easy to navigate but had all of the amenities you may be looking for. The staff and service were wonderful. The food was plentiful and delicious at all the various restaurants and buffets.

Visited For our 20trh Anniversary with another couple and we had a great time! I wanted to write this review to hopefully help others who are thinking of visiting after reading multiple reviews to decide where to visit. We are in our early 50’s and wanted to have a good time but also relax. If you are younger/ single and looking for a party this may not be the place for you but was perfect for us. We visited the club on Saturday night and were the only 4 in there but the music was good and we danced like no one was watching 😊.Check in was fine. We were greeted on arrival with cocktails and then met with the concierge to check in. Our room was not quite ready so we had lunch and drinks while we waited. We booked the Diamond Concierge rooms which came with stocked fridge. Had water, soda, a couple of local beers and was stocked daily with same. The room was comfortable, clean, spacious, nice view, no issues with water or air ( which I read in other reviews). The couple traveling with us found the phone was not working, reported it to front desk staff and it was repaired in a couple of hours. The elevator for the Diamond building was not working but the staff elevator was literally a few steps away and was not an issue. The resort is small but had 2 pools and beach was not very long but it was fine for us. The server Rommel was great, we hung out in the same spot during our stay and he came around often / everyday to make sure we had a cocktails whenever we asked! It was our first time at an all inclusive but now I know bring my own cup , the bartenders are happy to fill your personal cup with whatever your choice of cocktail is if you don’t want to wait for or go to the bar for multiple refills. With trips to the bar was always attended to within moments. To hit on some of the negative reviews, there is a fence at the edge of the property where locals try to sell you various things. We were there for a week and there were 3 or 4 locals who had no problem with a polite no thank you. I only encounters when I went to get equipment for water sports. As for the cats, I saw a total of 3 the entire time, from the reviews I thought the place was overrun with cats. They wander and lounge and I did not find it to be a problem at all. The food was ok, best was the night that focused on Jamaican food and it was delicious. The burgers and jerk chicken wraps at the outside food bar were delicious. Only ate at the Buffett for breakfast and food was good. One note, if you plan a massage make sure you get your total at time of booking. We booked for 2 people on the beach for what we thought was going to be $150, the night before the confirmation was on my door and total was $300, the gentleman at the spa was not able to breakdown the cost for the charges so we cancelled with no problem. We had excursions planned for the remainder of the trip so did not bother to pursue. For excursions if you go to the falls definitely book the party boat along with it, had a blast. Someone told me about Club Mobay, it was worth every penny. You can arrange on the Club Mobay website. For $80 per person round trip you are greeted when you get off the plane by someone that will personally whisk you thru customs and take you to private lounge with complimentary food and drinks. We decided on private transportation to the resort after reading the reviews (travel time from the airport is about 1 1/2 hrs so did not have to worry about stops to other resorts along the way). As our transportation was ready within about 30 minutes of arrival really got the enjoy the lounge more on departure but again, was well worth it. Was our first visit to Jamaica and would definitely return to Jewels Dunn!!! Read less
