Nisbet Plantation Beach Club

Nevis, St Kitts and Nevis

The hotel

Sometimes it’s the story behind a setting that makes a place special. Sometimes it’s the setting itself. At Nisbet Plantation Beach Club, it’s both. It gives you the rare chance to stay in a historic area on a Caribbean beach (a spot where Horatio Nelson met his future wife, Fanny) – so you get all the bygone beauty of The Great House, with all the barefoot beauty of a sandy beach with hammocks for two. And, connecting the two, the stately Avenue of Palms sweeps down its 30 acres of lush gardens, which are dotted with 36 little cottages, leading you to treats like the 75 foot freshwater swimming pool, ocean-facing hot tub, The Palms Spa, the casual seaside dining and rum punch parties of its beach restaurants, and the fine dining and elegant afternoon teas of The Great House.

Hubby and I have been back home for a week now and we miss everyone at this gorgeous 'home'...From the moment we arrived till we left we had a really relaxing time....even while I had a health issue. Want to thank the girls in reception for organising the doc to visit me ...dont get home visits as quick as this at home and the meds were collected so I didnt even have to go myself. Thank you so much for the concern that everyone had for me. We stayed in Whitehall cottage which was lovely and kept exceptionally clean by the housekeeping team. Yes it did need a little tlc but it was charming....and no TV so it was back to reading for relaxation.... All food was exceptionally well prepared and presented and dinner in the Great House was awesome. The chef will even do something if nothing suited and hubby had lobster one night which he loved. I am a history buff so eating in the special place knowing that our great Admiral stayed was fascinating... We took a half day tour with the lovely Calvin and again this was so interesting. Calvin has so much knowledge of his beautiful Nevis and loved listening to his tales. Hubbys favourite place was the beach bar....no surprise there.....I was unable to drink due to my meds unfortunately. but he made up for me!! Finally i have to mention all the staff. Tim has a wonderful team and they were all genuinely lovely.I can see why guests go back year after year. Staff remember your name which I personally like. It is like being 'at home' We were both impressed that Tim and Tina have time to stop and chat to all their guests every day whether it is at breakfast, lunch or dinner or in the bar. Thank you to ...in no particular order...Angie, Rosalyn, Joselyn, Carol, Chantal, Melissa, Dan, Kaddy, Levi, Calvin, Kelvis and Pam and the girls in reception and last but not least Tim and Tina.....thanks to all of you. Those of you who follow my reviews know that I rarely give a 5 star rating to a hotel or restaurant. I gave the Thursday night buffet four stars After a 3 night stay I have decided to give the hotel operation as well as the food and bar operation 5 stars. Tim (the GM) deserves it. Most of the reviews encapsulate the hotel operation as well as I could. There are only two downsides. I think the raised bed on a pedestal is a danger to all. We missed the step several times. The second is the beach. While beautiful to see the locale attracts sewers. So what makes it a 5 star? Attention to detail and guest comfort and needs that is exceptional. Breakfasts are generous. But there is always someone at the table for special needs. The bar service is generous but the staff makes sure you don’t have to ask for a second round. Dinner is the same. My wife needs some assistance and a cart was always easily available—with a driver who smiled as if it was his privilege to help out. We left for the airport very early one morning. At 4 am a cart was there with a smiling driver. The kitchen left us a small breakfast. Just another instance of service above and beyond. The Four Seasons gives good service. But it’s bought and paid for. The staff is polite but generally sour. At Nisbett the staff serves because it’s their pleasure to do so. So....it gets the fifth star. Read less

Where should I begin? Nisbet has upped their game yet again on our 4th visit there! We returned July 2019 after spending our 50th wedding anniversary there Sept. 2018. I became quite ill on the 2nd night there, a recurrence of kidney failure I suffered 5 years ago. My wife, a nurse, immediately contacted Pam, the Resort Manager, who put her in touch with a doctor without delay. Pam informed Tim the General Manager, and they promptly arranged for an ambulance to take me to the Nevis hospital. The hospital conferred with my doctor in the U.S. and they kept me overnight for IV treatment. Fortunately, my kidneys returned to proper function and we were able to continue our 12 night stay, though with limited activity. When my wife returned for the night from the hospital Rosalyn in the Great House promptly told her not to worry, and then had her supper sent to our room! What a wonderful person she is as has been attested every time we have been to Nisbet. We love her. She even called the hospital twice to check on me! The genuine concern and compassion shown by Tim, Pam, Roslyn, Violet at breakfast and lunch at Coconuts, Angela at the restaurants, the gentlemen who would pick me up in the golf carts and take me to the beach and the great house and back, Calvin the taxi driver, Dan and Kaddie and Winston the bartenders, everyone we came into contact with were so cheerful and helpful. There is no doubt in our minds that the nicest people in the world live on Nevis and work at Nisbet! (I hope I didn't forget to mention anyone as there are so many wonderful people there). We stayed for 7 nights in Gingerland - half a cottage with some ocean view. A first taste of the great experience we had as we got upgraded which got us a second room with couch, etc. on top of the front porch with sunbeds. The staff is super friendly from maintenance to maids to waiter stuff and up to the general manager that made sure we were happy. Everyone is making an effort to accommodate your personal wishes and tries to remember your choices. It's a super intimate resort - which we liked. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone looking for lots of activities and parties though. Although you can book activities around the island and the front desk will also help with getting a taxi to e.g. get to another beach (club). We ate in the Great House every night except for the BBQ on Thursdays. The food was delicious and the menu is different every day - including one vegetarian option and dairy and/or gluten free dishes. For us it worked fine to go with the breakfast plan and pay for a la carte dining. There are meal plans available as well. Note that there was no TV in our room (there's one in the resort lounge). We didn't mind and with the WiFi you could watch some stuff on your personal device. The beach area and bar is very nice and well maintained. The sea and beach was a little rougher than at other areas on the island. We still found a very nice area and enjoyed the more or less constant wind during a hot week in July. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay in the Nisbet Plantation Beach Club again should we come back to Nevis. Read less
