Nisbet Plantation Beach Club

Nevis, St Kitts and Nevis

The hotel

Sometimes it’s the story behind a setting that makes a place special. Sometimes it’s the setting itself. At Nisbet Plantation Beach Club, it’s both. It gives you the rare chance to stay in a historic area on a Caribbean beach (a spot where Horatio Nelson met his future wife, Fanny) – so you get all the bygone beauty of The Great House, with all the barefoot beauty of a sandy beach with hammocks for two. And, connecting the two, the stately Avenue of Palms sweeps down its 30 acres of lush gardens, which are dotted with 36 little cottages, leading you to treats like the 75 foot freshwater swimming pool, ocean-facing hot tub, The Palms Spa, the casual seaside dining and rum punch parties of its beach restaurants, and the fine dining and elegant afternoon teas of The Great House.

Nisbet Plantation Beach Club has a beautiful beach, fantastic hospitality, yummy Signature Rum drink called The Avenue of the Palms (handed to the parched traveler as they arrive) but. then. this. The general manager of the property and his wife take you on an awesome hike and show you the flora and fauna of their island—Nevis.

We returned to Nisbet for our third visit this year. It was overall again a great visit! We were welcomed back like family by the Nisbet Staff: Rosyln, Violet, Dan, and Angella. Nevis is a laid back island and Nisbet is the perfect location to enjoy that atmosphere. We dined in the great house every night (except for the Thursday night beach barbecues) and the food was again spectacular. The Thursday night barbecues are also great food, though the barbecues seem to cater more now to locals than to guests at the hotel. The beach, unfortunately, has suffered from the loss of the palm trees, with significant erosion. Thankfully, they have erected more shelters due to the loss of the palm trees. However, the beach can be quite hot from mid-day till later afternoon. (Though not nearly as hot as Pinney's Beach!) I am not used to offering disappointments from our stay at Nisbet, but I did have to point out two from this stay. The air conditioning in our room malfunctioned one early evening, pouring out a lot of water. The response from the front desk was that someone would evaluate it the next day. I explained that it would flood the room if we used it, and even asked for a bucket to try to contain the water, but was told we could not be helped. That was a very hot night! It was fixed by the next afternoon, but there was no further acknowledgement of the event. Also, the Nisbet generator was out the entire time we were there. This is a problem because the power on Nevis is unpredictable. I require a CPAP to sleep, so without power, I essentially was awake every time the power went out. Second, in the past Nisbet would allow couples to plant coconut palms to celebrate an event (for a fee of course). The new management has gotten rid of all of those signs, etc... Overall, still a wonderful property and place to visit. The staff make the difference here. I would definitely go back. Read less

Hubby and I have been back home for a week now and we miss everyone at this gorgeous 'home'...From the moment we arrived till we left we had a really relaxing time....even while I had a health issue. Want to thank the girls in reception for organising the doc to visit me ...dont get home visits as quick as this at home and the meds were collected so I didnt even have to go myself. Thank you so much for the concern that everyone had for me. We stayed in Whitehall cottage which was lovely and kept exceptionally clean by the housekeeping team. Yes it did need a little tlc but it was charming....and no TV so it was back to reading for relaxation.... All food was exceptionally well prepared and presented and dinner in the Great House was awesome. The chef will even do something if nothing suited and hubby had lobster one night which he loved. I am a history buff so eating in the special place knowing that our great Admiral stayed was fascinating... We took a half day tour with the lovely Calvin and again this was so interesting. Calvin has so much knowledge of his beautiful Nevis and loved listening to his tales. Hubbys favourite place was the beach bar....no surprise there.....I was unable to drink due to my meds unfortunately. but he made up for me!! Finally i have to mention all the staff. Tim has a wonderful team and they were all genuinely lovely.I can see why guests go back year after year. Staff remember your name which I personally like. It is like being 'at home' We were both impressed that Tim and Tina have time to stop and chat to all their guests every day whether it is at breakfast, lunch or dinner or in the bar. Thank you to ...in no particular order...Angie, Rosalyn, Joselyn, Carol, Chantal, Melissa, Dan, Kaddy, Levi, Calvin, Kelvis and Pam and the girls in reception and last but not least Tim and Tina.....thanks to all of you.
