The hotel

Sometimes it’s the story behind a setting that makes a place special. Sometimes it’s the setting itself. At Nisbet Plantation Beach Club, it’s both. It gives you the rare chance to stay in a historic area on a Caribbean beach (a spot where Horatio Nelson met his future wife, Fanny) – so you get all the bygone beauty of The Great House, with all the barefoot beauty of a sandy beach with hammocks for two. And, connecting the two, the stately Avenue of Palms sweeps down its 30 acres of lush gardens, which are dotted with 36 little cottages, leading you to treats like the 75 foot freshwater swimming pool, ocean-facing hot tub, The Palms Spa, the casual seaside dining and rum punch parties of its beach restaurants, and the fine dining and elegant afternoon teas of The Great House.

This resort is a great place to relax recharge your batteries and enjoy everything that the Caribbean has to offer. There is obviously a top down approach in terms of friendly, professional and efficient service from Tim and Tina and this shows in every member of staff. The food is amazing and whilst I am not a great fan of BBQ nights, it was incredible at Nisbet. The grounds were kept immaculate, the rooms were comfortable and very clean. Maybe the bathrooms are getting ready for an upgrade but this does not detract from the experience. Tim and Tina do a managers walk 3 times a week which is a great way to exercise but also a means of meeting fellow guests and getting to know the boss! It is also easy to do on your own on the other days. The views are amazing, the locals very friendly and welcoming and each day there is something new to see. The only slight disappointment for me was the beach. Where the hotel beds were the beach was course and to get in and out of the sea, you have to walk over quite rough rocks and stones. It is also a drop into the water and could be difficult to get in and out of. Would recommend beach shoes if you are a sea person and take extra care when getting in and out. However I would not subtract from my 5 star review as the resort has no control over Mother Nature. The pool was good to cool off in but I felt that the area lacked atmosphere. This was our first visit to Nisbet and we were in the minority in that. Many guests were multiple repeaters and I can understand that as it is a superb place to visit. From the UK, it is definitely worth the touchdown in Antigua and the boat ride from St Kitts. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Nisbet and will probably return at some point but it’s a big world out there with so many places to see. Thank you to all the staff for the daily effort that you make to ensure that your guests have a fantastic holiday. Read less

This was a perfect vacation for us. It was our first time on Nevis, and it is a wonderfully peaceful and agreeable place. Nisbet is the embodiment of all that is good about Nevis. It is NOT a big resort with tons of activities. It is instead a refined but unpretentious place where the staff welcome you warmly but leave you alone to do what you like. Our room was a garden suite with a screened separate room that was terrific for relaxing and reading. The grounds are beautiful and not covered with swarms of people. Full breakfasts are included and serve anything you could possibly want. We had several dinners in the Great House, and they were as good as any we had on the island. It is great to be on the beach, but there is a stiff breeze that in January was cool, so swimming was not great. But that’s a small complaint. Nisbet is the perfect place to relax in an elegant but low-key setting. Read less

Great accommodations, food and service. Violet was our hostess at breakfast and she was especially wonderful. Very relaxing stay. Would stay there again. All of the staff made a real point to know us and our names.

We were lucky enough to find that Tim and Tina had returned to manage Nisbet - they are great hosts, now joined by the lovely Don - and to find many of the same staff some of whom remembered us! Roslyn hosting dinner, Jocelyn and Glendine and so many other serving breakfast and lunch at the beach bar, tea and dinner at the Great House., with a good choice on the menu (lunch could have more fish sometimes). The barbeque is a great fun night, with a good band, and otherwise a musician at the Great House plays before dinner - a variety, but sometimes Lloyd, with good jazz on a variety of instruments - lovely sax. There is plenty to do on Nevis - walking with Sunrise Tours - Lynnell who runs the company is so knowledgeable, riding with Erica along the beach from Nevis Equestrian Centre and sailing for half a day over to St Kitts (all organised by the very efficient reception staff). There is good wind for sailing, but sometimes that Atlantic wind can be a bit fierce on the Nisbet beach at certain times of the year. The cottages are very comfortable, well maintained and really it is a pleasure to stay here. Eight nights was too short, but it is worth it, even for a short stay. Read less
