The hotel

If you’re going to laze on any beach in St Kitts, Frigate Bay’s Caribbean-washed shore is the one to pick – and Timothy Beach Resort is the only hotel to grace its golden sands. It’s not just the only hotel on South Frigate Bay Beach, it’s also plumped for the best spot on those sands, right by a natural snorkelling reef, rich in fishes, and a stroll from the Atlantic beach. Making the most of its beachside setting, most rooms have a sea view (although the lawn-facing rooms often get exciting views, thanks to visiting vervet monkeys). Life here is about simple relaxation, mainly played out on the sands or at the oceanfront pool – except on Sunday nights, when the resort buzzes with a Caribbean buffet at Sunset Café, and reggae bands playing by the water’s edge at Dock Bar.

The resort is well placed in St Kitts. The apartments are well set out in nicely maointained gardens. We had a self catering unit which was very well appointed. The rooms were large and comfortable. The balcony was also large and had excellent views across the Caribbean and. to the other side, you could see the Atlantic..The food in the restaurant was very good and the service was also good. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and we need to congratulate Laurel, Virgil and Laticia on reception for being so helpful welcoming and being a great advert for the resort. It is also well situated for eating out, being very close to the Strip where there are 5 or6 places to eat from on the beach. If you need to go a bit further, on the way to the Marriott there are several good restaurants and an easy walk. For the self caterers, there is the RAM supermarket about a mile away, which is a pleasant walk in the early morning. Golf courses are nearby if that is what you want.. The only drawback for us was the noise that came from one of the first bars on the Strip, a Spanish themed one. Either the person running it was deaf or soon would be because the noise at times was amazing, particularly when a cruise ship full of Spanish speakers was in. This is in no way the resorts problem and, to be fair, it was intermittent but it is worth bearing in mind. The beach was good .Although the resort has its own small area for guests wit access to the sea, we preferred to go on the beach. It is quite crowded near the Strip end when a cruise is in , but walking a little distance away was absolutely fine. No hesitation in recommending this place. Read less

,,,I am so glad we stayed at Timothy Beach! The rooms were spacious, with a comfy bed, closet space to unpack, air-conditioning, U.S. plugs for convenience, and a nice shower with good pressure and hot water. There was a nice patio with loungers to relax on while enjoying the amazing view. We breakfasted at the Sunset Café each morning and the menu was varied and the food, tasty. However, the best part of Timothy Beach is its location. It's on the Caribbean side and its beach is amazing. After a bit of rocks, the bottom is sand and the water so clear that it was like swimming in your own ocean pool. A bit farther out, around the dock, is a great place to snorkel to see the local fish (you can rent snorkels at the front desk and other water sport equipment on the strip). It was very convenient as we had excursions that started from or around Timothy Beach (Blue Water Safaris and Mad Max) and the strip also provides fun food and drink (we tried Shiggedy Shack and Cathy's). We've stayed at the resorts before on other islands, nice if you are just planning to stay at the resort, but Timothy Beach gives you a taste of St. Kitts with comfort and without unduly draining your pocket book. They also have relationships with great drivers...Uncle Millie had our back the entire time we were there. Our room did face not only the ocean, but also the strip. From a soccer mom's prospective, the music was enjoyable during the evening and did not effect my sleep but I think my husband did use ear plugs on 2 of the 5 nights we stayed there. However, the plusses of Timothy Beach well exceed this minor inconvenience. Read less

The resort is decent, the ocean view rooms are large and have a big comfortable balcony (I cannot speak to the size of the mountain view rooms, but the balconies are tiny). The staff are very responsive to complaints (ie: the shower was spraying in odd directions, and although I told the front desk that it didn't need to be replaced until we left, it was replaced that afternoon). The rooms are clean, but could use a bit of cosmetic work. There's no beach to speak of, the loungers are set up on a large deck with an awning, so in a way it's better because you don't have to keep moving your lounger to avoid the sun. The swimming is awesome, and the water is clear, but getting into the water can be tricky since there are rocks about 6 feet in - BRING SWIM SHOES - there is a narrow path you can take to avoid the rocks, but it's not ideal. There are STEPS everywhere, so if you can't navigate steps, go elsewhere. The restaurant is decent. and there are several other restaurants nearby to choose from. Now the bad part - and this is NO FAULT of the resort. Directly across the street from the resort is a horribly loud bar (Rumba - a Spanish bar) that plays very loud music until all hours on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. There is nothing the resort can do about the bar, and when I complained to the bar owner he basically told me to shove off, that he was allowed to play even louder, for longer, and that he'd been taken to court 4 times and won each time ... a very inconsiderate man indeed. Our room was originally face-on to the bar and I found it impossible to sleep, the resort moved us as soon as they could after I complained about the noise, (and they gave us ear plugs in the meantime), however I'm a light sleeper, so even further away I found it difficult to sleep. Having said that, I spoke with other people who weren't nearly as bothered by the music, so if pounding base doesn't bother you, great, but if it does I suggest you bring sleeping pills, or ask for a room facing the mountain. Many of the people I spoke with have been coming to Timothy Beach Resort for years, so they can't be bothered by the music as much as I was. Bring SHAMPOO and CONDITIONER, because the resort doesn't supply them, and the local convenience store charges a fortune for them. There's a coffee maker in the room, so bring COFFEE FILTERS and if you need a SUGAR SUBSTITUTE, bring it, because although there's sugar in the room, there's no sugar substitute. Bring your own coffee, or buy at the local convenience store - about a 15 minutes walk (it's pricey though). The room does have single-serve French vanilla and Cappuccino instant coffee (1 packet of each) if that's your thing. The average AGE was "up there", I'm in my mid-50's and I was one of the younger people there. There are are the usual beach vendors selling trinkets, but they're not aggressive. Would I go again? Yes, if I were the type to go to the same place twice, I would - but I'd bring sleeping pills. Read less

We longed to return, and actually ventured back two nights to the Sunset Bar, where in just two days we’d made several acquaintances. The rooms are a little rustic, but pretty much as anticipated from the photos. The music on Sunday night was loud, as we expected, but not so much that it bothered us. We actually enjoyed the din in the background and slept like babies. When we return to St. Kitts, this is where we will stay. Marriott is well-appointee, but impersonal due to its size. Our island life began and ended at Timothy Beach Resort. Read less

Stayed at Timothy's the week of January 12.(5 in party) First time at this resort and first time in St. Kitts. I felt compelled to write a review after reading the reviews. Everyone has a different opinion based on personal likes and dislikes. This resort met my expectations and honestly exceeded in most areas. The staff always met you with a smile and a good morning and we had no issues what so ever with cleaning staff. Sometimes they came early, sometimes later in day. The view from our room (31) was spectacular with breath taking sunsets. Equally so from the deck of the pool or any where on grounds. The resort was not overly busy it seemed. Ironically buses from the Marriott and cruise ships were observed each day visiting the beach and eatery's. The beach was clean and being a early riser, it was groomed as the chairs and umbrellas were put out each morning. The owners of the beach front pubs/eatery's were very accommodating and prices were very fair. Beer 2-3 dollars or by the bucket if so inclined. Food is what you would expect from a beach pub. Don't expect anything other wise and you won't be disappointed. The resort during the day was never crowded with 6-8 people around the pool and similar on the lower deck. You have to keep in mind this is a public area that can get lively in the evenings and yes sometimes to the wee hours. I honestly only found one night that i could hear the music inside our room. If you are a overly light sleeper this may not be the resort for you. But, if you wish to experience St Kitts on the ground this is it. Lots to do all at reasonable prices. taxi cabs are fair and not expensive. Open bus tour around the island including stops for 7 was 30 dollars each!! That included Brimstone, Black Stone and a few other stops. Basically 7 hours. The office staff can provide any assistance you may need. One driver took us to a beach and agreed to come back at a set time, which he did. On the return he advised us he made a mistake and charged us to much and deducted the difference on the return...........now how often does that happen? Is their flies or sand fleas? Yes i did get a few bites my wife did not. But again i was on the beach at sunrise without any fly dope, my bad.Lots of monkeys frequent the back area in the mornings and cats in the evening. Neither are pests and i am not a cat lover. I would suggest the Blue water catamaran tour to Nevis and a few short trips to the surrounding beaches, all unique. We have traveled to the Dominican Republic, Cozumel Mexico, Barbados, USVI and BVI. St Kitts is in my top three. If you wish to fully experience Caribbean life, the food and the culture this is a good place to start. IF your looking to be pampered and sit around with other tourists maybe this isn't for you.
