We travelled as a couple, 1st visit to Caribbean and we booked through Virgin and stayed 11 nights all inclusive. We had a Patio Pool Room (108) 30th September - 11th October, this is a long and thorough review as I feel it is warranted and hope if you are reading this you will, read to the end. Transfer from hotel was estimated at 1 hour 30 but it took nearer to 3 hours due to bad traffic when we reached Castries. We live in London so we are familiar with traffic but this was unexpected. On arrival, we were given our room key and a form to sign stating that we accepted that the hotel provide and recommend using the safe. The welcome and check In was swift and courteous but not overly welcoming. As a patio pool room, we were in the main building, ground floor and a short distance from the main reception. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed, a kettle, a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, everything you would expect. The storage in our opinion was minimal so we did mostly live out of our suitcases which was a first for us but wasn’t a problem. We had a small wardrobe which also houses the safe, 2 bedside tables with a small cupboard and small draw and a desk with 3 larger drawers and a cup board that housed the fridge. There was a bedside chair and a small table with 2 chairs, tv etc but storage was limited. I will try and bullet point the positives and negatives otherwise I may end up writing a short novel. Room was clean and spacious with everything you need. Bed was big and very comfortable. Nice little patio with table and 2 chairs literally a few steps from the pool side but with a little bit of garden separating the patio from poolside. Good sized pool with plenty of sun beds available. (We were there low season) Our room was close to everything, pool, reception, restaurant and bar. The food is fabulous. Buffet style breakfast with a great mixture of traditional dishes as well as breads, pastries, egg and omelette station, cereals, fruit, yogurts, pancakes, french toast, beans, bacon, bakes, cheese, ham etc. Slight variations each day but you would have to be a very fussy eater to not find something you liked. Lunch and dinner menus are wonderful. We were all inclusive so were able to explore the menus. I don’t like spicy food and everything I tried was delicious. Again a mixture of traditional dishes and things like burgers, fries, baguettes, chicken, ribs, pasta. Something for everyone and don’t be afraid to try something new. The chefs are very accomplished and the quality of the food is excellent. (If all inclusive some dishes to carry a supplement but the staff will make you aware of this when ordering) Pizza night is Thursday and a real treat. The pizzas are huge and if you have a starter, 1 pizza is plenty to share between 2. The staff are also very accommodating so you can order from the bar snacks menu too if preferred but still eat in the restaurant. ( recommend trying the mixed sliders and the nachos) The restaurant staff are amazing. Friendly, professional, polite, accommodating and a great mixture of personalities. You must engage with them and I guarantee you will come away with at least one new friend that you will be sad to leave. Great bar menu of cocktails, wine, beer and local spirits. If you are all inclusive, they will tell you if you order something that comes with a supplement. There’s is a bit of a lack of consistency sometimes. The cocktails can vary on how they are made between the bar staff. My first Puna Colada was delicious but my second and third not so good. The staff for the most part are incredible. The restaurant and bar staff are simply wonderful and they will become part of your holiday. There is a mixture of ages and personalities and if you engage with them and get to know them, they add so much depth to the stay. I can honestly say that the staff put the heart and soul into coco palm and we found ourselves looking forward to meal times and bar time to chat to the staff. It would have been lovely if we could have had an evening or 2 to socialise with them. I honestly can’t praise them enough and some will go over and above to make your stay perfect. Big shout out to Lise, Dwight, Patricia, Veronica (Housekeeping) Darios, Cyril, Sam, the guy who cleans the pool (we didn’t get his name but chatted most days), Princess and so many more. 💗💗💗. Speak to the staff. St Lucia is there home and they will share with you all the island has to offer both at the resort and in the surrounding area and they can really enhance your experience. We did have some issues which I will include shortly but anything we reported was for the most part dealt with promptly and satisfactory. I would give the food 5 stars, most of the staff 100 stars if I could but my 4 star review reflects the few problems we experienced. Ok.... the negatives. The Creole restaurant was closed which we were not aware of before or on arrival which was disappointing. All of my comments are based on the Ti Bananne restaurant. On check in we were tired after a long journey. We had to check in and sign a form which made a lot of reference to using the safe provided in the room. There was no information in the room on how to use the safe. We went back to reception and were told there was more than one style of safe and asked which one we had. We had to go back to the room to check and then back to reception to get the correct instructions. This was a pain when checking in after a long journey. There was also no welcome drinks at reception or information pack in the room. No details about what to do in the event of a fire or health and safety information , pool opening times, restaurant and bar times, nothing at all. First time we have ever stayed in a hotel with NO information pack provided in the room. First morning, our shower broke. The shower hose literally shredded and sprayed hot water everywhere. Reported to reception and fixed within an hour. A couple of days later our air conditioning unit located above the wardrobe started leaking water into the wardrobe. Again reported to reception and fixed within an hour. One evening we were planning on visiting the casino but after dinner we returned to our room to find that the safe would not open. (Flat batteries) maintenance were called but could not get into the safe as it had been previously drilled and we were told they would have to smash the front of and install a new safe. Fortunately after 30 minutes of trying, the safe burst into life and was opened. The terminals were cleaned, batteries changed and the codes reset. However due to this we could not access our passports and money so didn’t end up going out that night. We had visited the pitons and volcanic mud baths which left our swimwear and clothes a bit smelly. We washed them out and asked at reception for the loan of an airer to dry the clothes we had washed. We were told we had clothes line above the shower but could not find it. Another trip to reception and were spoken to as if we were being a bit stupid about how to find and use the clothes line. Spent 30 minutes inspecting the bathroom in minute detail before going back to reception to explain we certainly did not have a clothes line and needed to dry some clothes. They said they would contact maintenance and 10 minutes late we received a call to say that the hotel did not have Airers and all the clothes lines were in use In other rooms but we could request a laundry service if required for an additional fee, ( Not helpful or acceptable) On our first Friday at the hotel there was a teachers appreciation event and we had a not put through the door on the Thursday evening telling us that it would be busy and lunch would be a buffet. However on the Friday there was confusion about if the pool was open or not due to the event using half of the poolside. We were originally told by reception that the pool would be closed. It was suggested that we go off site for the day and we were told where we could get a boat to pigeon island instead and how much it would cost. We were not happy with that as it felt that they were trying to get rid of us. It then transpired that the pool was open but as the event was using the side of the pool with shallow access, we had to use the metal ladders. I have mobility problems due to surgeries and arthritis so had to keep going round to the guests who had swim up rooms to ask if I could use their patio to enter and exit the pool. Not ideal and felt as though we were not considered. The following day there was another group using the hotel which we were not told about. The whole weekend was buffets which kept running out, lack of restaurant seating, long waits at the bar and cold food. Not ideal and were left feeling unvalued as guests. Entertainment was laced on for the event ps which we could all enjoy, singers, bands and steel drums, but nothing once they had left. This was one of the biggest disappointments of our stay. We tried to show respect and tolerance as this is a local hotel, used and loved by the local community, however we felt that more information should have been made available to guests so that we could have made choices. Our biggest issue was the offensive graffiti that we found in the grout in our bathroom. The hotel are very aware of what it was so I will not go into detail here and the fact that the matter was eventually resolved by Dwight, one of the bar-staff who was genuinely upset when we talked about it with him. That was an unexpected shock that cast a lasting shadow over our stay. We did raise our concerns and issues which the general manager noted during a discussion and a verbal apology was given. We used the spa for our complimentary massage which we received via Virgin due to booking an upgraded room. The massage was lovely and I also had a wax manicure and pedicure at a cost of $60 (us). The staff in the spa and not nearly as approachable or sociable as that of the main hotel. The massage was lovely, the mani and pedi very average and not a great finish to the nail polish but knowing I would be in and out of the pool and sea I wasn’t that bothered. If I had been back home, I would have insisted on a repaint. Checkout is 12.00 but our flight wasn’t until 7.50pm and our transfer from resort to airport at 3.50pm so we wanted a late checkout. This can’t be arranged until either the night before the morning of departure and costs $50 usd or keep the room till 3.30pm. We had to request a complimentary late checkout in view of the issues during our stay which was granted, however after checkout we went to the bar to get a final drink before our transfer arrived and were told that as we had checked our we had to pay for our drinks which felt like a final sting in the tail. There are some other minor things which we could keep on about, the pool is starting to show its age, the cats pooped just outside our patio and wasn’t cleaned up during our stay, church group waking the entire hotel up at 5.30am when they started singing. So overall, make of the review what you will. I would have loved to give the hotel a 5 star review but just feel there were a few to many negatives to warrant it. However, this was our first time visiting the Caribbean, a long waited for trip and for us a double celebration. We did not allow the negatives to affect our stay and had a wonderful time. Also we need to consider that at the time of booking this was a 3star rated hotel. I would say it was nearer to 4 star with some 5 star elements. There is work that needs to be done, areas for improvement and it’s not perfect but they certainly seem to take on board genuine concerns. If you speak to the locals, they all know coco palm and will tell you that it is the closest you will get to authentic St Lucian experience and food on the Island. We would stay again without hesitation because of the location and the attitude of the staff and the authenticity of the hotel. It is a home from home feel. I cried several times on our last day as I felt so comfortable and at home, it’s like a holiday with friends you just haven’t met yet. Please don’t let my negatives put you off. This hotel offers great value for money and has room for improvement. I am in no doubt that they know the areas they need to work on after speaking to the general manger and I feel this hotel will continue to go from strength to strength. We just feel that our own personal concerns warranted a little more in the way of an apology for the personal reasons that the hotel are aware of. Read less

This place is fantastic , 5days in of an 11 night stay . There are a few minor negatives but you know what , the positives far far outway the negatives. The staff here are absolutely amazing. I can see our next 6 days being just as amazing. Would definitely recommend and we'll be back again .

DARIO AND CHRISTIAN were amazing bartenders! The staff I admire their team work and their customer service! Glass is always topped with water ! The food comes out very fast and hot remains hot! Compliments to these chefs doing a great job! The place is well kept except the pool around inside was mould and broken concrete and the lounges and the beach chairs were dirty needs a bit scrubbing but apart from this ! House keeping awesome! Thanks Martha Service great! Thanks to the beautiful ladies at the restaurant. You all did an amazing job! And I enjoyed every bit of my 2 night stay! Read less

Even though I don’t blend in as a tourist my business trips to SLU is always enjoyable at Coco Palm. I would have given a 5 star rating however the one disappointment is the attitude of the front desk staff. They need some skills in customer relations. The breakfast is always amazing even for a picky customer like me.
