Holland House Beach Hotel

St Maarten, Caribbean

The hotel

A stay on the fabulous island of St Maarten requires an equally fabulous hotel – enter Holland House Beach Hotel. On the squeaky soft sands of Great Bay Beach, this boutique base throws you straight into the island’s lifestyle – which mixes barefoot beach days (with beach attendants bringing refreshments to your lounger), time browsing Philipsburg’s boutiques (air-conditioned, duty-free, and right on your doorstep), the odd luxurious spa treatment (which can even be taken in the privacy of your room), and a fashionable social scene – not least at the hotel’s Ocean Lounge restaurant and bar (think gourmet dining, an award-winning wine cellar, and infinite ocean views).

Spent one night at the hotel on the way to St. Barth. It's located downtown Phillipsburg overlooking the bay and the beach with a nice bar/restaurant. Rooms appear to have been renovated post hurricane Irma, ours was facing the bay which is probably what one may want to consider as opposed the ones facing Front Street. We arrived on a Sunday and took about 20-25 mins by cab to get to this hotel. Being a Sunday with no cruise ships in it’s a ghost town. There were some open air markets a few blocks down from the hotel but on the boardwalk pretty much shut down. We didn’t mind as we were only here for 1 night. Headed to Anguilla the next day. When you arrive at the airport there is an order to hail a cab, it goes in order on the side of the building etc. it was $20 for both of us not including tip. THe bellman took our bags and within 15 mins our room was ready and we arrived early like 130pm. The hotel, looks newly renovated modern inside. We had a city view. The elevator was small and being on the 2nd floor we opted to use the stairs. The room was large. King bed, huge bathroom double sink, bar refrigerator area Keurig Fuji waters, closet flat screen tv. The Ac unit was wonky but worked. Clean. Plenty of towels. When you come through the lobby there is a really big bar overlooking the ocean, then lower level another beach bar with tables, there are benches seating also outside by the restaurant as well. The restaurant at the hotel,is probably ranked the top one in Phillipsburg but we didn’t eat there. The beach is across from the boardwalk, get your towels by the bar then grab a lounge chair umbrella etc. it was not crowded. Overlooks where the cruise ships come in. Hotel doesn’t have a pool. Place was spotless. Clean new, service was friendly and if everything was open centrally located to other stores shops restaurants. Distance to the ferry was about 25 mins. Plan accordingly. For dinner we walked down towards the marina to the greenhouse pub, more people. Overall if passing through for a night it’s a good stopover. Read less

Very convenient site, beachfront, hotel was clean and bright. Our room was on the beach side and we enjoyed that view. (Note: Music was a little loud at times for relaxing on our terrace.) Boardwalk right outside the hotel. Dinner at the Holland House restaurant was excellent. Staff courteous and helpful.

We have spent many many years (and thousands of $$$$) visiting Holland House. We have rented hundreds of chairs over the years and have had countless meals. This year we decided to take our family of 25+ plus there for an evening dinner. We made our way from 25 minutes away just to find out that our reservation could not be accommodated because there was another group of people who come every year (like we have) and felt they were more important. There was one particular lady at the front (I wish I knew her name) who claimed to be the person who “makes all the decisions “ and said she would sit us when she wants too. This obviously made us irate so we decided to take our business elsewhere. The chef and other staff tried to talk us into staying but after that same lady smiled at us while we were upset we felt there was no way we would support an establishment like this. We then had to take our family (after paying for parking) to another restaurant. I’m extremely disappointed in how we were treated. I do not recommend an establishment that treats their customers this way. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. Stay away!!!! Do not support. Read less
