PROS: Staff, vibe, Azul, scenery CONS: active runway next door Overall Impression: You'll never want to leave to visit the sister property next store (Sonesta Maho Beach), except for some amenities. If you're expecting to have your ass kissed by staff this isn't the place for you. If you want to treated like an honored guest, and made to feel at home, then this IS the place for you. I read one review where the person compared this to Atlantis or something and I don't know how they ever thought this was like that. But because of them, I know I never want to go to Atlantis because the Sonesta was perfect for me and I am sad every day that I had to leave and come home. Appearance/Ambiance: Luxury meets comfort. The decor and overall vibe was upscale in an accessible, breathable way. It wasn't stuffy and too pretty. It was perfect for feeling like you were on a lazy vacation but being pampered at the same time. Obvious wear here and there but nothing that made us feel like it was unkept. Check-in: You check in with the desk outside of the Maho Beach resort and they take you to the Ocean Point checkin on a golf cart. Don't get scared by all the riff riff in the main resort lobby. They can't get into this resort! :) Staff: Some of the staff were beyond exceptional. Damien at the Sunset rooftop bar was the best staff member we encountered. The front desk and concierge staff were all incredible as well. Housekeeping was warm and friendly, and yet had a charming "realness about them. Staff at restaurants were all nice an friendly, nothing that made you feel like they were trying too hard. Food: Don't go anywhere other than Azul. It is the only restaurant exclusive to this resort where the sister property guests cannot get in. The food was also better than any other restaurant. Great mix of options for all of us. And the view...my god. It was incredible. Also, you need reservations at most of the sister resort's restaurants and that was a flawed process. You don't need any for Azul and we never waited for a table. Pool: The Edge pool was cool and the other main pool was nice. But we spent 99% of our time in our swim-out pool. When we needed drinks, we just walked through a small patch of bushes to the main pool about 15 feet away or we made sure we stocked up. If you get a swim out suite, know that there are three by the Edge pool that will give you no privacy at all. Sure, people could see us in ours but the Edge pool suites are RIGHT ON the pool where people can see right into your room. 24-hour room service is awesome! After 11 they have a reduced menu of bar food pretty much. I swear the burger was one of the best burgers I have ever had. It looked like a plain, food service burger but it tasted amazing. There is also coffee in the main lobby but go to the cafe in the sister property where they have little eats and espresso machines. The rooms have Nespresso machines too, FYI. The resort is right next to the airport runway which is cool because you can watch all the people on the beach getting blasted into the water (intentionally). But know that you will constantly hear planes. After a day it becomes background noise. Get a spa treatment of some sort. The masseurs and staff were funny, friendly, engaging and knew when to let you relax (ie, not talk to you LOL.). A highlight of our trip was getting a massage at Serenity Point. It was kind of windy, but being on top of a cliff hearing birds, water, and...planes...was an experience we will cherish forever. Hoping the pictures I posted tell a better story. No filter was applied to any of them. Read less

On many instances, the water for our showers and bath was just warm. When addressed by maintenance, he said "it will happen again" due to everyone taking a shower at once. For what we paid, I definitely do not think I should have to plan out my showers based on when everyone else isn's showering. I have never had that problem at any other hotel. The butler service is a joke. One of the things they told us they did when we arrive was plan out with the cleaning service when we were gone so that our room could be cleaned. One day we came back at 3:15 and our room was still not clean. When they knocked on our door, they then seemed annoyed that we were in our room and that they had to come back. I have had better service at other all inclusive resorts where we did not have butler service. Also, a majority of the wait staff at the restaurants are rude & unfriendly. We had the worst experience at Jing's. Overall, I would say that the food across the whole resort is just okay. Our favorite days were off resort- renting a little motorcylcle to explore the island, zip lining, and body surfing at Mullet Bay beach. Some highlights: Omar at the point pool is awesome! He took care of us, with a smile, every time we were at the pool. The night shows at the casino are also great and entertaining! The view from our room over the cliff was the best on the whole resort in my opinion! We enjoyed both of our spa experiences! I think if I returned to St Maarten, I would rent a condo so that we could choose the best restaurants, choose the alcohol of our choice, and explore as we please. Read less

Arrived from the airport to a long checkin line. When we got to the counter and gave them our information, they said they didn’t have reservations. They told us after waiting a half an hour that their was a mixup. 2 hours later they gave us a room with a broken closet door, a broken thermostat, a non working remote, and empty shower supplies. It just got worse going forward. The hotel is extremely noisy. It is only a stones throw from the airport, and the noise is deafening when planes land and take off. The patch of real beach at high tide doesn’t exist. The self serve coffee shop which is suppose to open at 6:30am had an employee in it. He was putting food on the shelves but refused to let me or a mother looking for milk for her baby in until 7:00am. This was typical of the employee mindset. They just don’t care. Then came the speech of what they didn’t have on the menu. No Avocado, no French fries, and a steak sandwich made with pork. Drinks cups that are so small they force you to return every few minutes to the pool bar where they did not have sufficient staff. Portion are tiny. Had a mussel appetizer with 5 tiny mussels. Tried making reservations on their automated system. Always told it was booked. After pressing them they put you on a waiting list. Show up and the place is half full. Maybe they want you to go eat somewhere else? I could not recommend this to anyone as the food, service and accommodations are below par. Read less

We arrived in St Maarten to find that the 3rd party driver we arranged through the hotel didn't show up. We paid 18.00/person and had to find to attendants with walkie talkies to inquire about the driver. 30 minutes later a driver arrives and we have to roll our luggage to him. We are checked into the Hotel at 3:00 to find that our room was still not ready. We are taken by our Butler, Ranjeet Pandey to the top of Casa Blue to wait for our room. It is +80 degrees , we are irritable and we are relegated to waiting into the heat. Ranjeet was the bright spot of our entire trip. He epitomizes the care and empathy that a room butler should exhibit. He will go above and beyond to make sure "his" guests are afforded all the comforts and needs that are/were expressed. We get into our rooom 131, to find that we do not have the "normal" wading area in our section of pool water. Water bottles and scum accumulate by the outside of our room. Ransheet sees this listens to my complaint and immediately gets maintenance to clean our end of the pool, morning and night. We unpack our clothes and prepare for our "Reservation" later in the evening at the properties Italian restaurant. We arrive for our reservation to find out that the reservation for our room was listed 11/2 hrs earlier with a different parties name. Since we now have no reservation, the restaurant was a mad house and a 2 hour wait, we end up eating at the Ocean Terrace, a buffet with food in trays...Good for kids, not adults. We alert our butler Ranjeet about all of the inconveniences and he mentions that our complaints were conveyed to management. Management does NOTHING nor even reaches out to us. Poor management leads to bad CX. Ranjeet, again working to make our stay more enjoyable, arranges for a rooftop, tabletop candlelight dinner that was so enjoyable that we arranged a 2nd dinner with our newly introduced next door neighbors. This is a beautiful property with wonderful people. If not for the professionalism of Ranjeet, his attention to detail and customer experience, we would have had even more to complain about. The back up butlers could not get a breakfast menu correct...forget coffee??? Bacon??? That was bad to see in in-room dining. All we can say is that Ranjeet made our trip comfortable and he is the reason I didn't complain about additional inconveniences. Read less

The reviewers who suggest just eating at Azul are SPOT ON. Menu changes for lunch and dinner and its all amazing. The view is ridiculous as you are literally on a cliff hanging over the ocean. I have never seen the drinks flow so well either no matter where you are on the resort or what you are drinking. My wife agreed this was our favorite place and we will be back. Don’t forget if you get a butler suite to ask for Ranjeet, he is a game changer! Read less
