Sonesta Ocean Point Resort

St Maarten, Caribbean

The hotel

Channelling its glorious island setting, the adults-only Sonesta Ocean Point Resort delivers St Maarten’s glamorous vibe, chic styling, and ocean views. A self-proclaimed ‘limitless all-inclusive’, with the option to upgrade to a Butler service suite, you can dine and drink at five bars and two restaurants – or pop over to the family-friendly sister hotel Sonesta Maho Beach Resort for five more restaurants and bars, along with Vegas-style shows, spa treatments, and casino flutters.

I don’t know where to start ....I guess the harassment of front desk employee ONICKA BYRAN.....please avoid her at all costs if you still decide to visit this resort. Broken door locks, terrible food, cockroaches but beautiful grounds. You do not need to stay at this resort inorder to enjoy the most beautiful parts of st Maarten.

We went to sonesta ocean point for our honeymoon, and had a butler suite. Nigel was our butler and took care of everything for us. He gave us a personal tour around the entire island. It was an amazing stay with amazing views. If you’re a plane enthusiast the runway is right off the beach with great views. They have multiple places to eat on property all with great food. Only thing we were a little disappointed on were not all the pools had swim up bars, and had to get out and walk to get a drink, but that was very very minuscule. Staff is very friendly. Definitely recommend and would stay again. Read less

I hate to leave a 3 star review for this place. The resort itself is beautiful and maintained incredibly. There were always workers on the grounds cleaning, painting, etc. We had a Sunset Swim out Butler suite. Beyond amazing room, views. Mini bar in room, huge bathroom. Our main butlers were beyond accommodating. They were always available to assist us and anticipated our needs without us asking. 97% of the employees we came in contact with were great, happy to help or offer assistance/advice. Drinks were always flowing and always great. But.... we were on vacation, in a foreign country and hungry. First, there is a lull in food service from 3-6. Only pizza available. Coming from NY, not great pizza to us. The food in the restaurants just wasn't good. I had very high expectations as I had been following the resort on Instagram and saw the Chefs week highlights. I thought I was in for some amazing options. It was very disappointing. When you pay for all inclusive you don't expect to have to go off site to eat a good meal nor do you want to. Again it really pains me to leave any negatives about this place since it is such a beautiful resort with amazing employees. But I don't go to an island in the Caribbean to eat bad pizza and burgers. I expect seafood, BBQ, jerk, etc. The Jerk chicken at the grill one day for lunch was basically a plate of French fries with a baked chicken leg brushed with some jerk sauce. URGHHHHH. I spoke with other guests who have been there before and said the food was great. I really hope they improve upon their food. It could be such a perfect 10. I really do feel bad to leave a low star rating but they have to improve their food offerings and restaurant hours. Read less

My husband and I decided to book our 50th Birthdays at the Sonesta Ocean Point Resort and opted to upgrade to the Butler Suite to truly make it special. After a quick ride to the hotel from the airport we were greeted with cold towels, brought inside and served rum punch. Within minutes our butler Ranjeet was coming down the stairs to greet us, grab our bags and bring us to our room. He catered to our every need, before we even knew we needed to think about it. His smile was never ending and made us feel very special. Per Ranjeet's suggestion we called Bob for an Island Tour, if you are in need of a safe reliable taxi call Bob (Taxi 146) +17215225031. He was very informative and friendly, even accommodating our request to go to Caribbean Brewing Company. This was another amazing experience, as the brewery is just ramping up to open. The owner took a couple of hours to guide us through a tour, chat with us and ask about our craft beer opinions and also share their delicious craft beer: "the beer from here". On to Eagle Tours the following day, which was our 6 hour catamaran ride booked through NexusTours. Kyle, Luke and Dean made this trip so much fun! They were very personable, with lots of laughs, good food and drinks. The views were breath taking and my husband really enjoyed the snorkeling. What's a trip to the Islands without a little jewelry shopping? Ranjeet suggested Island Treasure Jewelers, right on the main street across from the hotel. Nash, the owner, was happy to meet us on a Sunday before the store was even open. At the resort we enjoyed a couples massage in the Gazebo right on the ocean, so beautiful and relaxing. After dinner we would go visit Damion in the Sunset Lounge, he was so personable and fun...we kept going back! We were well taken care of on all levels, but Ranjeet was truly above and beyond any of our expectations. He had suggested a French Restaurant that was not part of the resort and on his night off, went to make our reservations and met us at 7:00 to make sure we were happy. Our last day there we had to check out by 12:30, however our shuttle wasn't leaving until 3:00 so he made sure that we had a reserved cabana and brought us lunch. It's all the things that he did for us, that we did not ask for or have an expectation of him, but he is that passionate about his guests. With all that being said, this was our amazing vacation and I know everybody has different expectations of a 5 Star Resort. I found that when we smiled and greeted anybody that worked there, it was returned. This Island is still recovering and these people work hard so we found that tipping along the way for good service was very much appreciated. In other reviews people have mentioned kids on the adult side, which is not the case. There is shared area outside the lobby however you need your bracelet to enter the locked gates to the adult side and there is security present at all times. While at the pool somebody mentioned that it was dirty...the water was crystal clear so if they are referring to the sand, that is on the guests that do not respect the fact that they request you rinse before going in the pool. If the Island's breeze blows things into the pool throughout the day there isn't much they can do about that either...and trust me you don't want to give up that gorgeous breeze! I guess I couldn't finish this post without mentioning that our room overlooked the runway. To see the variety of planes coming and going over the gorgeous water and horizon never got old! If you are distracted by the green roof then you are not focusing on the beauty that surrounds you. So incredibly peaceful here, we can't wait to go back! Read less
