Bequia Beach Hotel

St Vincent and the Grenadines, Caribbean

The hotel

Your unspoilt slice of paradise, Bequia is rustic yet refined, and remote yet reachable. Just a quick flight from Barbados and St Lucia, it couldn’t be further from their tourist trappings – and Bequia Beach Hotel is the very epitome of its untouched beauty. A complete one-off, the hotel’s filled with the owner’s travel mementoes, has unparalleled views of distant Grenadine islands, and brings you unforgettable dining by the beach at Bagatelle.

We arrived into Bequia from Barbados on a small inter-island aircraft, and were dealt with by friendly and efficient Airport staff. One of the Hotel staff was there to meet us and together we transferred to the Hotel in a Bequia style open backed taxi. The transfer did not take long as we made our way through a couple of local villages to the Bequia Beach Hotel, where we were greeted with friendliness, courtesy and Rum punch. It took no time at all to check in and we were shown to our room by Keenan who pointed out the key features of the hotel. When we got there our cases were waiting for us. We then went to explore for ourselves, the hotel environment was beautiful, clean and tidy.We had dinner at Bagatelles on the beach. It was their last night open before planned renovations during their quiet season, but the atmosphere was great and the food amazing. From then on Bagatelles was closed but continued to operate from the Blue Tropic restaurant. The food and service was very good. As this was their Quite Season there was not much evening entertainment, but we were treated to some great Jazz piano on one of the evenings. The fact that there was building work at Bagatelles did not detract from our enjoyment of the place .We spent the next few days touring the Island, lazing around on Princess Margaret beach and Jacks bar, a few minutes drive from the hotel. We met the owner Bengst who was great fun and told wonderful stories of how he came to Bequia and developed the Hotel basically from scratch. He values his staff and loves what he and they do. There were not many guests at this time of year but everyone made us feel welcome and treated us as amazingly well. We loved the Hotel, Island and people and it was with a large lump in our throat and tear in our eye that we had to leave to return to UK. We have visited the Caribbean several times before and Bequia has to be one of the most friendly and genuine islands, unpretentious and a real gem! Thank you for making us so welcome, we WILL be back! Read less

Bequia has the friendliest people I have ever come across and Bequia Beach Hotel has chosen the friendliest of the friendliest as employees. Though above our usual budget we decided to stay here to celebrate our 30th anniversary and were not disappointed. From the anniversary flowers and wine to the high quality fittings (the most effective aircon of any hotel on Bequia or St Vincent) it's clear that high standards are in place here. What really makes the difference is the staff, with levels of service on a par with, and often better than, the best Asian hotels. They anticipate and meet every need and always with a cheery smile and a few words of conversation. The hotel clearly invests heavily in training and in maintaining standards. Unlike other hotels in the region, systems are designed for the convenience of guests, rather than staff, and this is most welcome. The location, on Friendship Bay, is fantastic, with a long, practically deserted, beach, and there is also a pool, gym and spa which we didn't get round to using. The quality of the food is excellent, both at the main restaurant and the Italian. I would particularly like to thank the breakfast team that helped get our days off to a fine start. We have stayed in many of the hotels on Bequia over the years and as a complete package the Bequia Beach Hotel can't be beaten. We'll be back Read less
