The hotel

The history of this hotel is quite something. Originally built in 1765 as the residence to the British Administrator, Grenadine House now welcomes you through it's colonial doors. However you choose to spend your time on the Island, be sure to enjoy an evening wining and dining at The Sapodilla Room, we hear it's considered one of the foremost intimate dining venues in St. Vincent. Unfortunately, we only stayed one night and had breakfast at the Grenadine House because our American Airlines pilot thought it was a good idea to take off with a flock of seagulls at the other end of the runway. Our Saturday 3 pm flight became a Sunday 7 pm flight because AA had to bring in another jet to get us all to Miami. Anyway, our regular taxi driver in St. Vincent basically got us the room because everyone on the flight was frantically calling every hotel trying to get a room for the night. It's about 45 minutes from the airport and pretty close to the ferry dock in Kingstown. You guessed it. AA was no help to anyone that I could ascertain. We were initially pleasantly surprised pulling into their entry area and it got even better after that. It was about 10 pm when we arrived. The bar was essentially closed but they had two wonderful complementary rum punches waiting for us and we got two more to both to help us relax and calm our pretty fragile nerves. We were met with smiles and shown a very nice room with a king size bed, TV, AC...and a very nice balcony facing the water/ferry dock. The view from the balcony is actually very pretty and decidedly Caribbean. The tree frogs were in full song as it had rained that afternoon. The frogs surprised me because GH is in town. But if you closed your eyes and just listened, you wouldn't know that. So you know, you couldn't hear them inside the room...only on the balcony sitting with a rum punch. The next morning we had breakfast with Keisha Layne who informed us that our room had a complementary continental breakfast included. We both had an omelet as well as good St. Vincent coffee. She brought us some of the best mango jam I have ever put in my mouth that the cook made fresh that morning. After breakfast, De-Andrea Sampson at the front desk helped us navigate the garbled instructions we got by phone from AA about the flight home that day. We were supposed to stop somewhere to get another Covid test, as ours was then 4 days old and needed to be no later than three days. She made calls to both the airport to find out exactly where we were supposed to go. And then she called that specific clinic to make sure they were open. It was nice to be treated so kindly and respectfully with all we were going through with AA. We didn't get to use the pool. And obviously we didn't have time to use the Grenadine House as a base to look around Kingstown. But every single person we talked to and interacted with there was fabulous. We would recommend it as probably one of the better places (if not the absolute best) to stay in Kingstown. It's a perfect stopover if you've waiting for the ferry to Bequia or the southern Grenadines. The people who own the Bequia Beach Hotel and Jack's Bar in Bequia also own the Grenadine House. So it's clean and well run. But we recommend it primarily for the way the staff treated two harried, frustrated travelers who showed up at their front door late at night. We liked it a lot better than the more "beachy" places we've seen and stayed at. Read less

Anyone looking for a city visit to Kingston should put this at the top of your list. Read less

We had a fabulous view over the town and ocean from our ‘Superior Bay View’ room. All the staff were great, always ready with a cheery smile and warm, sincere, welcome. The food, especially the seafood, was excellent. And the rum punch the best we had on our Caribbean tour. You are in a nice elevated position above the town but still within easy walking distance of it, and the splendid Botanic Gardens. I don’t know what more to say other than that we shall return some day! Read less

We stayed here in January after a week at its sister hotel on Bequia. We couldn’t fault anything - the rooms, staff, food and location were perfect for us. The staff helped us plan what we wanted to do and see on the island. We hope we’ll be back on day and have no hesitation in recommending it.
