The pool was a good size but I was disappointed the deck got almost no sun. The hotel itself is large so it never feels crowded. Breakfast by the sea is lovely with a great selection of buffet and cooked to order items. The food at the main restaurant is very good and I particularly recommend the soft shell crabs - delicious! The lobster roll at the Crab Shack is amazing and also liked happy hour at the beach bar! Read less

An enjoyable 10 day stay at The Anatara Lawena. The reception staff were very helpful and welcoming. As the resort is set on a hill you have to use the buggy service in the heat to travel to the beach/pool and restaurant. The buggy staff were fantastic. Very prompt and helpful in ordering a taxi into Chaweng or The Fishermans village. The beach is gorgeous, however the sun beds are uncomfortable ( no matress) and very close together for a 5 star hotel. Breakfast choice was good, however service was sometimes mixed at Breakfast and on the beach. The plunge pool villas were a delight, but there needs to be more storage for hanging clothes as the small wardrobe was a disappoinment and we had to keep some things in our suitcase. The hotel is ideally located and I can highly recommend booking a tour with the hotel around the island. Thank you to all the smiley, hardworking staff. Read less

We visited the resort as a family of 3 (inc. a teenager!) for 11 nights at Easter. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived by the courteous concierge and reception staff. Our pool access room was tranquil and where we spent most of our time. We hardly saw our neighbours even though the hotel was busy. The wonderful housekeeping staff kept our room pristine throughout our stay. We ate all at all the restaurants which served authentic Thai food and continental dishes, all of which were delicious - nice cocktails too. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. We also had room service which arrived quickly and the staff were polite and helpful. The communal pool and beach area was immaculate. After having walked along Chaweng beach we realised how much effort the staff must put into keeping the beach looking pristine. We also want to thank the beach staff who helped us when we walked in oil from a boat along the main Chaweng beach - it was no mean feat to remove that. The yoga class run by the hotel was good set in a stunning rooftop location. We also booked a VIP trip to Ana Thong Marine Park. A must for any visitor to the island. It’s worth mentioning that spending the extra money on a VIP trip was worth every penny especially as we saw crowds arriving as we left each location ! It felt we were the only visitors being in a smaller group - approx 10 people. To summarise, if you are considering a trip to Samui then the resort is an excellent choice and the staff will ensure you have the best time possible. Thanks for a wonderful stay Anatara Lawana we will back!!! Read less

As GHA Platinum members, we’ve visited various GHA hotels, including Anantara (Dubai Palm), and have always been impressed with the high standards of quality. However, our latest experience was underwhelming. Good things first: beautiful and clean resor with an excellent housekeeping team. The Tree Tops is good. Now the sad reality. The prolonged waiting times for service at the hotel were unacceptable: over 30 minutes for coffee at breakfast, a wait exceeding 10 minutes for a menu, and a lunch pizza taking an hour to arrive. These delays were especially frustrating considering the food’s average quality and taste relative to its price. We were luckily saved by a nearby family restaurant offering delicious Thai food at just a third of the hotel’s cost. Breakfast: The long wait for a la carte orders adds to the frustration, particularly when coffee arrives after you’re done with breakfast. Although a self-service coffee machine isn’t standard for a five-star hotel, it would be an improvement here. When we inquired about our seemingly forgotten drinks, we were met with arrogant stares and no resolution. Mango a-la-carte?! It is quite absurd, considering mangos are found at every corner in the country. In other Thai hotels, fruits like these are typically included in the buffet with no restrictions. Most concerning was an incident at the spa. Being asked by a staff member for a larger tip stating on specific limits for this in a manner that felt like coercion is simply inexcusable in a five-star establishment. This experience was shocking and felt like extortion, completely undermining the level of professionalism expected at such a reputed hotel. My daughter suffered a painful injury from a large splinter she got on the poorly maintained terrace of the Family (!!!) Pool Villa. The indoor shower had a clogged drain, leading to water overflow after only 5 minutes. We booked 3 excursions, of which 2 were a total sham: private boat tour to Koh Phangan with a stay on a trash-littered beach with at least very friendly boat staff; and a private temple tour with zero guiding and a driver who tried to scam us for money at the end. Fortunately, the reception staff - who was really professional and very friendly during the whole stay- could rescue us from this highly uncomfortable situation. Although the excursion to Elephant Kingdom was a great experience, it was not enough to offset the overall disappointing service and facilities of the hotel. We would never come back. Read less
