The Royal at Atlantis

Nassau, Bahamas

Virgin rating

The hotel

Throwing you into the full Atlantis experience, The Royal is as legendary as the myths that inspired and infuse them. The architecture, the artwork, the adventures — each have a cheeky nod to the Lost City of Atlantis, but the well-dressed rooms and suites are a little less kitsch, coming with French or full balconies and views over the terraces, water, or harbour. Their spot on Atlantis Paradise Island puts you right by Atlantis Casino and at the heart of the world’s largest outdoor ‘marine habitat’ — with 14 lagoons and more than 50,000 aquatic residents, from sharks to barracuda. The island’s other fabled fun’s yours for the taking too, whether its experiencing rides or slides at the 141-acre Aquaventure waterscape; snorkelling the ‘ruins’ at Atlantis; or kicking back at one of its 21 restaurants and 19 bars.

Food :All these fancy restaurants not worth your money, we went to Nobu and I have been to other ones around the world before, Atlantis location is mediocre sushi place. Cafe martinique, dont even bother, they brought ravioli uncooked and main dish took them 1,5 hours to bring. In addition, when you mention things you are not happy the attitude is awful they simply dont care. Value/Price : One bottle of water is 11$ and everything is so overpriced. Honestly this trip was not worth the price you pay. We have heard others who had good experiences even a year or two ago. We unfortunately did not have the same experience. Day one we dealt with many issues upon check in and most importantly had no working phone in the room or the hallway by the elevator and no hot water. We were forced to change rooms to an “upgraded” room (a grand suite) the following day. Repacking all of our belongings with a 7 and 5 year old who just wanted to go to the pool. Moved to a different tower. We were guaranteed someone had been in this room and ensured the room was in good shape, had a working phone and hot water. We packed up on day 2 and made the move. Upon entering there were many stains all over the carpets, hair all over the bathroom and shower, sticky stuff along the sink, caulking in the shower was all falling off and no working phone. Our cells had a difficult time connecting and each time we called we got the customer service center not even at Atlantis. When we finally reached someone they came up and fixed the phone (first it wasn’t plugged in which we found and second once it was plugged in it wouldn’t work because the cord was broken). Was the room actually checked prior to our move??? Of course not. As I finished unpacking for the second time we had opened the door. Thought ahhh ok we can relax now and live in this room the rest of our trip. Then we smelled some putrid odor next to the bed. We looked down and noticed a large yellowish staining and I bent down to take a whiff. VOMIT. There was someone’s vomit left over from a previous guest. Chunks of it in fact found along the frame of the bed, behind the bed, along the trim, in the carpet. All over. We immediately called and they assured us someone would come up to clean it. We left the room finally to take our kids who had now been there well over 24 hours and really wanted to swim. We take them out and come back later on to the stench still being there. We call for managers. No response. Someone cleaned it? They said so. Still finding chunks. This took until day 4 for management to offer us a room change AGAIN and now they want to move us to the presidential suite. We said absolutely not. We had moved the bed over the spot to block the smell. That worked for the most part only on occasion would you catch a whiff of it while laying in bed. The trip only gets worse all the way to day 8 and we were “provided” (no refund seen) a 3 nights stay refund. Do not go. Read less
