The hotel

Set on a pristine stretch of white sand on Barbados’ West Coast, The House is an all-inclusive, adults only, beachside version of a hip downtown hotel. On the design front, the combination of smooth lines of teak, crisp white love seats, and ambient torchlights set a mood that is suitably exotic. Yet it’s a beautifully intimate place with plenty of privacy for romantic dining. Let your Hotel Ambassador organise your complimentary jet-lag massage, a round of golf at nearby Royal West Moreland Course, spa treatments in a beachside cabana, or try your hand at the complimentary motorised and non-motorised water sports. The service extends down to the beach and The Deck, with complimentary afternoon tea and evening canapés. Why not take advantage of the new Romance Concierge programme, where a dedicated Romance Ambassador is on hand to customise a surprise romantic event you vision if you are celebrating a birthday, proposal, honeymoon, or, just because.

We are actually at this amazing little gem as I write from my sunbed overlooking the beautiful sea! We were really worried before due to some very negative reviews but I wanted to write this to say how happy we are we chose here! There are sunbeds a plenty and the wonderful staff cannot do enough for you. Continually coming around the pool area to ask if you want anything, drinks are a plenty and delicious , food is great! It is a little dated hence the refurb happening, but rooms are very spacious and clean. Nothing is to much for them, I even asked for extra lamps in my room and they arrived in minutes! I loved the no reception concept, so no queuing, you just ask someone whatever you want and they make it happen! If you want a true Caribbean, totally chilled out experience I recommend here, if you want a stuffy, action packed noisy experience then not for you! They even secretly set up a birthday breakfast with balloons for my husbands birthday as we were a ground floor terrace. For us it’s been perfect and central to all the other restaurants like The Cliff, Sandy land etc we also booked! Thank you The House for your wonderful hospitality xxxxx Read less

This was our first visit to Barbados and we were not disappointed. We were a family group, travelling with our 2 sons and their partners. Some negative reviews about The House were of concern before our arrival but our stay was truly wonderful and we experienced first rate service from ambassadors and all the staff. We enjoyed very comfortable and spacious suites with sea views, plenty of sun beds - no need for a 6am start to secure one!, good food, especially the fish and seafood, with staff noting one person was gluten free (fairly well catered for) another was vegetarian’baby’ pescatarian. There was champagne at breakfast (and any other time of the day as well) and super bar staff who delighted us with cocktails, soft drinks and water on demand. The rum punch was a particular favourite for all of us. We did eat out a number of times but enjoyed lunch (the grill lunches were notably delicious) and dinner at the hotel on quite a few occasions. We did not experience the other sister hotels via the water taxi service, that’s for next time! The beach was a matter of steps away with a variety of water sports readily available, with only a few incurring an additional charge eg jet skis and boat trips. The snorkelling over the rocks to the right of the beach at the hotel was excellent. This hotel does not have the glitz of a modern hotel but it is still a beautiful and restful place to stay. It has rustic charm, stunning views and a personal service that is so important for the perfect holiday. Upcoming renovations can only enhance what is already a small but well established jewel on the west coast. We will be back! Read less

The staff were all friendly, offering knowledge of nearby restaurants and local fun hangouts. Patrica at the egg station was amazing and is a total gem to the property. Very warm and inviting I would come back just for her and the cocktails of course. Our jet leg massage was invigorating and refreshing. Ria and Shakira have blessed hands with the most gentle touch and welcoming spirits. My fave meal was probably lunch they had a grill with chicken lobster salmon shrimp and steak I wish it was for dinner as well. The cocktails were all amazing the green flash and after dark were my faves. It was a nice vacay and one I would do again Read less

We have just enjoyed a most enjoyable week at the House. As other reviewers have said the hotel does need some updating which we understand is imminent. However this didn’t detract from our enjoyment. Room very clean and comfortable. Food excellent in hotel restaurant and Positano next door. What makes this hotel special is the incredible staff throughout the hotel. Absolutely nothing seems to be too much trouble. Special mention of Nadia always professional and helpful, Wade cocktails incredible and nothing too much trouble, Dennis the singing and skilful mixologist, Andrew always smiling and prepared to go that extra mile, Sophia who never pauses and always makes sure restaurant guests are satisfied, Pat (the egg lady at breakfast) with top tips for where to go and Kobia full of smiles and always keen to help. We really hope when the hotel closes these staff members are retained by Marriott as they are the heart of this place. Read less
