While I’m sure the rooms were lovely at some point, they are are quit tired now (everything in the room is chipped, scuffed and blemished, and even where things have been repaired and painted over, it’s everywhere which creates a generally shabby experience). Perhaps at 1/3-1/2 the price this would be a nice place to stay, but for the money there several much better options nearby. Read less

We were worried by recent reviews that cast doubt on the quality of stays at the St Regis, but since we'd prepaid we pressed forward. For comparison we've stayed at The Carlyle, RC Central Park South, Aman NY, and the Standard Hotel. We stayed in a Grand Lux Room here at StR, which was an upgrade we were given at check-in. We found the staff really quite personable at check in (Christina), at breakfast (Ridwan), and through the Butler experience. We've stayed at a few other StR and the butler here was present, helpful and quite a lot of fun to interact with (Dafa). She anticipated our needs and had a sense of when we needed help and when we needed rest. The room was quiet and plenty spacious for NY. The shower was 10/10 - loved the water pressure. Toiletries are by Sodashi and Sachajuan. Really good quality. The lobby is under construction, so the only - temporary - downside is that accessing the rooms is via a temporary entrance, but when it returns I'm sure the lobby will be grand as always. This is one of the remaining grand dame hotels in NY. It's visible everywhere - the very steep original staircase, the wood paneled elevators. We found ourselves charmed by our stay and would not hesitate to come back, mostly because of the people. Read less

This is a lovely place with a very elegant looking room. We stayed in a Madison suite. The room felt kind of eerie, actually. However, I loved all the details in the room. They looked classy and well maintained. The sheets and toiletries were luxurious. The bed was so comfortable. It made me go into a deep sleep that not even an earthquake could wake me up. Our butlers on different days were so professional and very attentive. They made sure we were comfortable and we had everything we needed. The bellman and doorman were always friendly and helpful. The staff at the reception were a bit slow. Check-in took longer than expected. On one occasion, we stopped by at the reception to inquire about something, but the desk was empty. We had to wait about 10 mins before someone showed up. The saddest part of my stay was that after we checked out, I realized I left my ring on the ring holder in the bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. I don't usually take that ring with me during vacation, but that time I did. I called the hotel and got connected to the security. I spoke to Maria, who said the room we stayed in was already occupied. Anyway, to make the long story short, no one turned in my ring. I was quite disappointed, but I guess I just have to charge it to experience. Read less

Had looked forward to staying at the storied St. Regis NY and had no idea the lobby and restaurants were closed. Arrived to no greeting at the front entrance (which was not clearly marked) at street level. There was a bell person (?) standing in front who just glanced at us as we tried to figure out how to enter the hotel. Same reaction from staff inside who looked blankly at us as we tried to navigate the confusing “go to second floor” then look for a temporary check in desk. This improved later as they had staff directing guests in the hallways. Breakfast was served in a ballroom on the 20th floor (at least $50 per person for basic continental or American). No breakfast benefits offered for our Titanium Marriott Bonvoy status (though I see some reviews from other members who were offered free continental breakfast - why the discrepancies?!). The dining staff were very professional and courteous and were making the best of the situation (saw many people glance at the menu and leave). The guest room was spacious and gorgeous with good amenities (including a Dyson hairdryer, which I loved), and everything I had dreamed about staying at the St.Regis New York. Housekeeping staff were also excellent. Read less

Struggled with rating and review but honest takeaway is that I would not stay at this location even if it was a redemption or reduced rate as too many service fails. Struggled with rating and review but honest takeaway is that I would not stay at this location even if it was a redemption or reduced rate as too many service fails. Full disclosure: this was a 100k redemption by a Lifetime Titanium member. I used a suite upgrade to the Madison suite room 535. The rate for that room was around $3105 per night. There is construction going on. This was disclosed on website and I didn’t hear any noise. The effect is that the elevator and check in is puzzling although there are signs to direct guests. I confused which elevator bank to use more than once. Would suggest signage in lobby elevator that it does not go past 2nd floor. Thought my key card was malfunctioning. Doorman. Gave directions and friendly. I think they offer some complimentary transportation service, never explained by front desk, doorman or butler. Valet. Spot on, helpful and prompt. Always present, busy and engaged. Front desk: Mixed. Varied from good to annoyed. Examples, inquired as to breakfast benefit. Told matter of factly that it was limited to continental breakfast because “construction prohibits preparation of an American breakfast”, not sure what this meant beyond meant to advise I was limited to that option? Was told this benefit could be used via room service or on 20th floor temporary restaurant Later advised restaurant was only option by morning staff. Requested a late checkout which is a hard guarantee for elites. Got a lot of pushback on this by young lady who had to “check” with someone in the back and then only begrudgingly agreed to 3P. Other interactions with Suzanne were more positive. Butler: Greatest service failure . Stayed at StR in Middle East, Asia, Mexico and multiple US locations, shockingly poor interactions with our 4 to 12a butler. Examples: No introduction, no offer of any of touted services. Requested coffee service around 5P, best description I can give is the reaction you get when you press call button on a domestic economy flight. Almost visibly annoyed. Small carafe of weak coffee. Tipped anyway, no reaction Called housekeeping later for turndown service and ice in order to avoid butler, he called back, again annoyed. Brought ice, nothing else - Ignored our used tray and shoe shine bag by door on way out. Never used this or pressing service, bad vibe and didn’t want the interaction Used overnight butler, requested coffee around 6A. Look tired, but was prompt and polite. Coffee was a large carafe and very good quality Tipped. Room. Large, two bathrooms. Great bath products, towels and very good water pressure. Furniture, a little tired as were bed mattress quality. View limited on 5th floor. Good sound proofing and beautiful building overall. Tile work in room, baths and lighting were aesthetic highlights. Location. Fantastic, close to Central Park and tons of dining and shopping options, best feature of this property. Dining/Elite benefits: We had breakfast on 20th floor. Our waitress was excellent and explained that even though the front desk tells customers that continental breakfast is only option, it’s actually $100 credit. Which makes the prior explanation by front desk even more annoying. Why the weird hustle, just explain to your elites what is the allowance. The continental breakfast as the only option was messaged by two different staff members. Based on previous reviews, this is an ongoing problem at this location. Not sure why you want to annoy your elites as the messaging by front desk is to give impression your only option is a continental breakfast. Why? So many options in NYC to include JW and RC at Battery Park, as mentioned, I would skip this location. Based on other reviews and my experience, it is hit or miss service when it comes to this location which is unforgivable for this legendary brand and this price point. Read less
