The Reach, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Key West, Florida Keys

The hotel

A Waldorf Astoria Resort, The Reach effortlessly combines the effervescence of a Mediterranean resort with a more romantic, intimate setting. Boasting its own natural beach — the only one on the island — it is chic in atmosphere but ultimately relaxing. Water sports abound, including sailing and kayaking. Alternatively, don your snorkel gear and explore a world beneath the waves — just as colourful and exciting as the world above! For landlubbers, Duval Street is 1 block away and offers a wide range of bars, restaurants and shops as well as vibrant nightlife which rocks into the early hours. Each well-equipped guest room is a home-from-home but more than that, you’ve your own balcony too — perfect for breakfast and pre-dinner drinks, the latter very romantic at sunset. Enjoy a steak or seafood at Spencer's By The Sea; they also serve a mean cocktail!

This is a superbly under managed property. It is a disgrace to the word Waldorf Astoria and a NEGATIVE image to the good name of Hilton, Hygiene conditions are very poor ( but to be fair, the rooms are clean), the service is horrendous ( took 3 calls and 3 hours to get housekeeping), and they have ZERO care about maintenance of the property! If I were Hilton - remove your name fast! Why would you advertise a beautiful beach and not bother to even remove the HUGE PILES of seaweed that is rotting on your beachfront! OMG! I can go on and on- but as a gold member- I rather not speak about “my” hotel chain! Read less

First trip to Key West. We first made a reservation at another hotel downtown Key West, but they had no beach. Wife called the Waldorf directly and was told they have one of the few beaches in Key West so we changed our reservation to stay there. Upon arrival we found the beach totally covered with rotten egg smelling seaweed. Nobody could use the beach nor did you want to be at the pool or eat outside due to the foul odor. The hotel should have been honest with us during the call to tell us of this issue that seems to have been present for months. We also had issues with our room, leaky toilet and mold growing on ceiling. The morning after we checked in we told the front desk of our disappointment to have planned the trip down and not be warned of the seaweed, and we also were not very happy with the room. We were told to ask for a manager upon check out to address our complaints. So we did. She apologized, and told us our points would be refunded. We also learned the hotel was closing soon (end of July 2019) for major renovations. Now near 60 days later and hours on the phone with Hilton Customer Service and the hotel we have 25% of our points back. The hotel seems to have changed their mind now that we are not in front of them at check out. Hilton has yet to step up on this either. If Hilton or the hotel honors what they told us then I will advise. Read less

Checked in yesterday, and checked straight back out again without even opening our bags. A horrible, dirty, tired hotel. Seriously disappointed with Hilton hotels for knowingly letting people book this hotel at standard prices knowing how bad it is! The staff for example were clearly not surprised we were leaving - although were quick to remind us we’d booked a non cancel rate!! So at the moment we’re c£1000 down. As gold members of the Hilton loyalty scheme though I expect to be compensated. Read less

This was the worst Hilton hotel we have ever stayed in. Two of the three elevators were broken our entire visit. When we checked into our room which was not ready on time, the carpet was soaking wet. My husband could not sit comfortably on the toilet because of the angle of the wall in the bathroom. When we went down to the pool, there were no clean towels. My daughter and I took the steps, due to the broken elevators, and ended up in a construction area. No signs. No tape telling us not to go that way. At one point, they took down the signs for the elevator indicating it was up and working again. We used it twice. Third time we got on, we ended up stuck for a few minutes. Doors closed and we were unable to push any of the buttons. Thank goodness we ended up getting the doors to open back up. Customer service from the front desk was much to be desired. The only good service we had was from a waitress at the pool and I feel bad I can't remember her name. The pool bathrooms were trashed and unclean. The sargassum was horrible at the beach. Not the hotel's fault in the least. However, when I called ahead of time to question them about it (in time so we could switch our reservations), they lead me to believe they cleaned their beach and it was not an issue. Even checking in, we questioned them again and heard two different answers from people at the front desk. This hotel is called The Reach "Resort" but I'm not sure how they can call themselves a Resort. I will never stay at this hotel again. My family and I are truly disappointed, especially because it's a Hilton Waldorf Astoria Resort. Read less

Hotel was grungy - 1 elevator was down the entire stay, leaks in the lobby, a/c would go down throughout the day, pool was gross at both properties (another guest even requested the piles of leaves be removed)...I have stayed at cleaner 2 star properties!
