The Reach, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Key West, Florida Keys

The hotel

A Waldorf Astoria Resort, The Reach effortlessly combines the effervescence of a Mediterranean resort with a more romantic, intimate setting. Boasting its own natural beach — the only one on the island — it is chic in atmosphere but ultimately relaxing. Water sports abound, including sailing and kayaking. Alternatively, don your snorkel gear and explore a world beneath the waves — just as colourful and exciting as the world above! For landlubbers, Duval Street is 1 block away and offers a wide range of bars, restaurants and shops as well as vibrant nightlife which rocks into the early hours. Each well-equipped guest room is a home-from-home but more than that, you’ve your own balcony too — perfect for breakfast and pre-dinner drinks, the latter very romantic at sunset. Enjoy a steak or seafood at Spencer's By The Sea; they also serve a mean cocktail!

Honestly, I cannot complain about this place. The room was what we needed, the drinks at the pool and the pool itself were great. Walking distance from Duval Street. Bed was comfy. We had an issue with our fridge and maintenance came and fixed it immediately. The front desk was super helpful during our check-in and check-out process. I would… Read more

We asked! Undergoing a renovation to become a curio brand We had access to both properties at the Waldorf The Casa Marina Joshua at the pool at the casa marina was terrible to us Homophobic dismissive ignored us. Service for breakfast at Spencer’s very poor the eggs not over medium but runny cooked and $5o for breakfast for two! They should be able to get eggs right! The staff at the reach was very good at compensating and tried hard to make up for the crumbling infrastructure and decor. It was a Birthday celebration which we had made the hotel aware made it all the more disappointing. The rooms were very dingy we had to cover the couch due to the hideous stains and foul odor and filthy carpet more stains. Permanent stains on the shower door with rubber seal broken I could go on but I won’t. If you are going to stay open when your hotel has not had a renovation since 2009 be honest offer your guests better value and a better price! Read less

We have been here for two days and have 3 more to go. We have been here for two days and have 3 more to go. We are Diamond Hilton members and understand that beach hotels are hard to maintain so we expect a little less, but this was unacceptable - especially for the price. We stayed the first night at Casa Marina and I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. It was dirty and the rooms were old. The pool area had the appearance of being nice, but wasn’t the least bit maintained. We moved the next day to The Reach and while it was definitely better, it still did not reach, what I would consider, Waldorf standards. Some staff was really good and others were terrible. It’s like they have a few loyal people and the rest are just there for a job. Upon check-in, I asked if they had rooms available for early check-in, while the girl I had said, “No, but normal check-in is at 4pm,” the other gentleman piped up letting me know that they had the room we requested available, but had an upgrade that would take a bit longer. We chose the upgrade, which was a very nice upgrade. This is an example of the staff situation I referred to before. The hotel, itself, is not well maintained. We weren’t given our breakfast vouchers and had to go ask for them on the second day when we were made aware by the breakfast staff. There is 5 ft of seaweed on the beach that makes it smell awful. We have been at other hotels where they have had staff to keep this clean. We were reassured several times that the hotel was undergoing a renovation this year so hopefully that happens. To be a Waldorf, a ton of money needs to be invested in not only the appearance of the hotel, but also the quality of the staff and/or training. Service is key and this was not apparent at this hotel for the most part. I understand we are in Key West, but to pay almost $600 per night for a Waldorf, I would expect something much, much nicer. THE UGLY: Building is dated, needs upgrades and noticeable maintenance, peeling paint, rotted and missing trim, poor plumbing (in our room). RATING: Being advertised as "A Waldorf Astoria Resort", one would expect world class accommodations especially at $600 plus per night. The Reach Key West was simply ok, not living up to what is implied with it's Waldorf affiliation. Not enough sugar for my dime. Read less

There was 3 feet of seaweed between the beach and the water. The hallways were institutional looking with gray painted floors that had not been painted for quite some time and we're stinky and dirty. The only excuse the staff made concerning the condition of the Hotel was they were going to be renovating soon. Only half of my bathroom worked. The front door on my hotel room was cracked as if somebody tried to kicking in. everything was dirty Read less
