We had a great stay at Sonesta this week! The beach was beautiful and Rafael was amazing. He was very helpful and went above and beyond to make our experience at the beach relaxing. The hotel itself was nice. The room had everything we needed and was modern and clean. The pool was smaller than expected and the $35/day resort fee seemed a little… Read more

The hotel itself was nice. The room had everything we needed and was modern and clean. The pool was smaller than expected and the $35/day resort fee seemed a little expensive for what you got in return. Overall, we had a great stay and would return to the Ft. Lauderdale area again! Joe is the best bartender around! After telling him our name only once he remembered it our entire stay and always took care of us! He makes you feel welcome and goes above and beyond for his guests! Thank you, Joe!

As someone who bar-tended through college, I notice exceptional ones. 'Joe' was everything you want in a great one. Welcoming, recalled not only name but some details on return visits, engaging, honest recommendations, not bothersome but talkative when appropriate. Was difficult with temporary bar setup until new restaurant opens but he was… Read more

Image of the Tripadvisor rating STAY AWAY! HIDDEN FEES, MEDIOCRE SERVICE, A TRAVELER'S NIGHTMARE

The problems began upon pulling up to the very entrance of the hotel. We were told that there is a $45 (plus tax) PER NIGHT parking fee and that there is "no self parking." The problems began upon pulling up to the very entrance of the hotel. We were told that there is a $45 (plus tax) PER NIGHT parking fee and that there is "no self parking." We were forced to submit to this, incurring $180 in parking fees. But that's just the beginning. They also charge a $35 "resort fee" which includes towels and chairs, but an umbrella is $25 extra. It also includes a KEURIG instant coffee machine in the room. Totally ridiculous! The front desk staff is friendly enough, but when the housekeeping staff was slamming doors repeatedly at 5pm when we were trying to nap and I asked them when they would be finished slamming doors, they scolded me: "Don't talk to me like I'm your child!" Be reminded that we are paying over $250 per night to stay in this hotel. The location is good and the views from the rooms are excellent, but the hotel is also under a major renovation and any careful traveler would STAY AWAY from the place until things change. Most of all, they have to learn that price gouging customers is not sustainable in the long run (I plan to dispute my credit card for their hidden parking fees), and if they are going to impose a "resort fee" it must include more than a few towels, a Keurig instant coffee maker, and two small bottles of water per day. This is an example of a place that explicitly contemplates ways to con customers with required fees upon arrival (note that the "resort fee" cannot even be declined) and if you decide to reject their $45 a night parking scheme you are out of luck as there is no parking within miles of the hotel (we came from New York). Finally, we had left the room from 730am-330pm and, upon returning, our room was STILL not made up. I remind you again that our baseline room rate is $250 per night. Could not be disappointed and will do anything and everything to make sure those I know and do not know will not patronize this establishment. Shame on them for stuffing hidden fees that guests cannot decline upon arrival. Once again, STAY AWAY unless your cash flow is endless. As I write this, I am still on the property, but wish I could find a motel nearby...I am convinced I would be treated with much more respect and receive much more for my money. Read less
