First of all, we were on the way to the hotel and an hour before we arrived the hotel called us to tell us that our reservation we booked was cancelled because other guests wanted to extend their stay and they would not have a room available until the next day. So they booked us a room in a cheaper hotel that only had one bed when we were 4 people in total and we had to change the room once again. Already on the first day at St. Augustine we wasted so much time just to check in at a hotel. The next day we had to check out and go to Santa Monica hotel and check in and the room still wasn’t ready yet so we had to leave our stuff there and leave to see the town. Overall, we went to St. Augustine for a weekend and we lost so much time checking in and checking out with the hotels and we could not do as much as we would’ve liked to because of that time loss. They also did not give us back the money difference between the other hotel and Santa Monica knowing that the other hotel was much cheaper than Santa Monica. The next day we were already leaving so we decided to have breakfast in the hotel and with the eggs they did not bring any toast and when we asked for the toast they did not have wheat bread. Than when we asked for a cappuccino and caffe latte they told us they did not have anything to make the foam for it. Finally, when we were leaving we were waiting for our car and we spent about 30 minutes waiting because they could not find our car even though we gave them the ticket for the valet parking. We enjoyed staying in this hotel. The rooms were old, but it’s an old hotel. They were cared for and very clean. Our view left something to be desired, tho. We were pool side on the 2nd floor (room 240). Rather than having full windows, we had small high windows, much like basement windows. I had to stand on the bed to see what was outside. Happened to be the pool area. Within walking distance of many sites in St. Augustine. Staff was accommodating and friendly. The valet accepted a very good tip from me and my partner. Nether of us realized the other had tipped. Would have been nice if the valet had told my partner he had already received a tip. And while discussing valet, we came across our car parked in a nearby surface lot. I really don’t know how they shoe horned our car in between the other cars. There were no scratches or dents when we took possession of the car. As a guest, you can receive a day pass to a private beach club to utilize their beach, pools, dining and other amenities. It’s about a 15 - 20 minute ride depending on traffic. The hotel will shuttle you there at 10 or 11 in the morning and pick you up around 3. No other shuttles from the hotel. The day we decided to take advantage of this, it was very windy in town and much windier on the beach. We decided to try dinner. It was good, but wasn’t worth the Uber ride. Many better restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Reservations are typically required. If you’re looking to be pampered, you might want to consider Casa Monica. If we return to St Augustine, we might look for a B&B closer to Lincolnville or maybe St. George Street area. Read less

This hotel has artwork through and nice pieces of furniture as well. There is a Starbucks right by the lobby and is with in walking distance to all the activities and the bay. The best thing about staying at Casa Monica is the availability to use the Seranata Beach club pass for a nominal fee of $12 and change total as long as you are a guest at the hotel. This beach club is about 7 miles from the hotel, but it is absolutely gorgeous and well worth the ride. You have access to it from sunrise to sunset. There are two pools, a gym, plenty of seating and umbrellas around the pools. It is right on the beach! There are locker rooms, showers, restrooms, a restaurant. Everything meticulously clean and staff is friendly. Now, the one thing that was annoying about the area of the hotel, not the beach club was that there were always “bums” loitering about on the hotel corner, steps, etc. The hotel gym is small and two out of the 3 ellipticals didn’t work and it did not have a treadmill. Overall a pleasant stay. Honestly, between spending all day at the beach club and then walking around the area at night you really just go to your room to shower, dress and sleep Read less

After complaining to Marriott, we received this response (quote): "When a member with Gold Elite level or higher stays at a property that charges a resort fee that includes enhanced Wi-Fi, a replacement benefit should be offered. The replacement benefit will need to be discussed with the hotel". Absolutely astounding that Marriott actually expects their most loyal customers to "haggle" with a hotel over benefits. This may be the most incomprehensible level of "poor customer service" we have ever encountered with a hotel chain. Boo, Boo, Boo to Bonvoy, & hotels charging resort fees --------- ESPECIALLY those like Casa Monica that ARE NOT -- repeat ARE NOT factual resorts. Read less

I can't understand all the great revies on this hotel. This is classified as a cateorgy 6 Marriott. I don't understand why. This is my third time in this town - first at this hotel. My least favorite stay. I will say the staff of this hotel is top notch. Better than some top top hotels I've stayed in. EVERY staff member went out of their way to be on the ball and helpful. I cannot complain at all about the staff and think they should train all other Marriott employees, because they pretty much saved the stay. The location is great. Right in the middle of downtown. Everything is less than 10 minutes away. The food is good and not crazy expensive like most hotels. We ate dessert in the lounge and breakfast in the restaurant. Both very good. There is only valet parking, but the staff is very very good. Not the bad. The rooms are NOT up to the category and price I paid. Granted, I paid a high price because I was there during the holiday lights event, but you should not be charging that price or be classified as a cat 6 if you aren't going to provide a room that meets that expectation, The room description says that room is small - and yes, it was. European small. But fine - i was only there one night. It said it had a walk in closet - it didn't. I didn't care, but the description is inaccurate for someone that might. The bed was uncomfortably soft. Marriott beds are normally very good. This was not. I have a back issue and am still recovering 24 hours later. WAY too soft. The shower curtain rod was rusted - picture included. Not a little - A LOT- this is not a new problem and should have been fixed. I went to hang a damp shirt to dry and thought better of it when I saw the rust. The window sill and the legs on the desk chair hadn't been dusted in weeks. Now on to quality of sleep. The walls must be paper thin or something. I was in a room that backed onto a small gym, so I only had neighbors on one side. At 7:30 am they awoke, and I thought someone was IN my room. I heard every word the man said very clearly. Not muffled. Clear as day. It could also be that this had a door for a connecting room. Well, maybe that's another complaint - they put a platinum Marriott member in a room with a connecting door? If you want to sleep in, do not stay here. The furniture was all dark wood to add to the historic feel, but it was worn. The desk itself was so banged up, it looked like a cat 2 fairfiled inn (actually, the furniture is usually all in one piece in a fairfield inn). heck, they could have even covered up the dings with some paint and it would have looked better. The hair dryer was very cheap - blew sort-of warm air - worst marriottt hair dryer I've ever gotten. Then again, the bathroom had such poor ventilation that if it HAD blown hot air, the bathroom would have never cleared out from steam. The shower curtain was one of those thin white fabric ones with the magnets at the bottom. The shower had freakishly high water pressure, so when you turned it on, there was this wind vortex that was created, so the magnet nearest the shower head wasn't strong enough, and the shower curtain would disconnect and the shower curtain would swing in and stick to your body - disgusting. So, I'd give the staff and food at this hotel a 5. I'd give the accomodations a 1 or 2, so that's why it got a 3. If this hotel underwent a renovation, I would likely stay again because the staff is fantastic. Or they need to significantly lower their prices to fit the quality of their establishment. Read less
