We spent a quick weekend at the Marriott Sand Key. It takes approximately 1 hour to get to the hotel from Tampa dependent on traffic. It could be more especially on a weekend. Beach traffic is a thing on Saturdays! The good: Wonderful view of the bay. I found the food to be excellent throughout - Watercolors, Kokomos Bar & Grill and even our take-out breakfast. Location near the beach. Some have complained of distance from the beach. For us a 5 minute walk but mostly because the beach is so HUGE. It takes a bit just to get to the water. Sand Key is great for beach walks . You can go for miles. They rent out chairs & cabanas nearest the Sheraton entrance or you can easily find a spot far from the crowds. The cabanas ; $219 from 9a - 9p. Well worth it though no view of the bay. They are chairs set from the pool where you can sit with a bay view and if lucky see some dolphins! The meh: The rooms are fine, very large but will need upgrades soon. However, the bathrooms are very small. We had a thunderstorm and water leaked in from the front door. Probably the biggest disappointment was the staff (except for Micheal at the concierge desk and the breakfast greeter - they were outstanding). Most seemed annoyed every time I went to the desk to ask for keys (my phone did not work & we needed 2 keys). Do I get water as a Titanium? Do I get breakfast? No recognition of status until I brought it up - very uncomfortable. Overall: If I needed to be in the Tampa area, I would definitely come back to this hotel but once COVID is not a thing, I’ll likely support Marriott at their Caribbean properties. Read less

The location is very good, situated between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The suites contain a living room with microwave and mini-fridge, a bedroom, and a balcony overlooking the bay. On the other hand, the walls between the rooms are very, very thin. Just loud talking from the folks next door was almost intolerable. We ended up stuffing a quilt between our connecting door and the other connecting door in order to get relief. Also, the Covid-19 precautions are half-heartedly enforced. Guests without masks walking around the indoor public spaces. Guests coming into elevators that already have the maximum number of passengers. What are they thinking? Read less

It was obvious that hotel is short staff, I saw the valet working in the restaurant and there was only one person behind the front desk that was doing double duty in other areas of the hotel. 2. The front desk manager said after we complained that they are having a hard time finding staff, I said then don't charge 400$ a night for a room. 3. One night there were 3 people fighting outside our room yelling at each other at midnight I called down to the desk and the phone rang and rang (short staffed) when they finally picked up he said we will send someone up. I watched through the window and the guy that came up did not look like security he was wearing a Marriott uniform he was short and looked like he could not handle two large guys that were fighting over a girl. I waiting and then at 1:00am it started again called down to the front desk and when the guy finally answered in a casual voice he said oh I guess he came back, I was pissed I said to the front desk guy he wasn't spider man he had to come through the lobby (no staff to stop this). Again I saw no security guard or police. 4. No restaurants were open passed 9:00pm but the Sheraton across the street had a restaurant open until 11:00pm. I will never stay here again it is obvious that Marriott only cares about money and could care less about there customers. Read less

Just arrived late last night and couldn’t be happier we chose this property. We stayed here once a few years ago and knew it would be a good place to return, but in these covid times of limited travel it’s made us appreciate this hotel even more. We feel very safe with their covid measures, however don’t feel that we are missing out on any aspects of a wonderful vacation either. Service has been truly top notch. Our pool server, Jason, has been wonderful even on a busy afternoon. Accommodations are clean, updated and comfortable. Front desk and restaurant staff have been extremely kind, and you can’t beat the views and location. We’ve been titanium members and Marriott loyal for many years. This property should be the model used for others to strive to become. Read less
