I was recommended this hotel by our travel agent in the UK and I was worried that I hadn't picked it myself - I shouldn't have been. For our family of 4 it was a great size and a relief after being crammed into one room at Universal. The fixtures and fittings were modern and the appliances huge and we had a lovely side view of the sunset over the ocean. The front desk was helpful and friendly - suggesting restaurants, giving us extra bedding and redoing our door cards for us when they stopped working and it was great having an allocated parking space. I think housekeeping were due in on the second full day but we didn't need anything changing and I'm sure if we had needed anything else we could have got it from the front desk. We walked over to St John's Pass for dinner twice and it didn't take very long at all and had day trips from here to Clearwater, Crystal River and Venice Beach. Read less

I chose to stay at Sunset Vistas after meeting one of the corporate marketing directors at their Rocky Point hotel in Tampa. I was working on a project for 40 days and was told that Sunset Vistas had the same amenities as their Rocky Point location. I had a horrible time with housekeeping at Rocky Point but loved the hotel/resort so when I researched the Sunset Vistas, I found that it had about the same layout but with 2 bedroom/2 bath apartments that also had a full kitchen, dining room, living room and balcony! Oh! And a small washer and dryer too! It was perfect! There is a restaurant and bar on property which is usually why I pick certain places as I am up very early and home very late so not having to leave property was my draw. When I checked in, I found out that the restaurant was only open from 8am to 5 pm which sucked since I left for work at 6 am and got home any time after 6 pm so that was useless and I felt misled. I specifically expressed my desire when booking for the restaurant, the bar was just a bonus! Which, by the way, is open till 10 pm I think. When I got to the property, I immediately turned on my ice machine in the refrigerator as this resort also does not have any ice machines. You must purchase it from the bar or go across the street to the convenience store. After 24 hours and no ice, I was given a bag by the office but never had my ice maker serviced. Because of how long my stay was, I was told that the linens would be changed once a week and that towel and trash service would be every other day. Since I checked in on a Tuesday and was going home for the weekends, it was perfect EXCEPT…. As in their sister hotel, the housekeeper was doing fine with leaving my TONS of towels at the credenza by the front door but failed to leave the necessities like toilet paper, coffee and tissues. Having been familiar with this problem, I went to the front desk, retrieved my bounty pointing out to the clerk that it’s going to be a very long stay if I have to keep searching for things that should automatically be in my room and she agreed! The first weekend, I invited one of my employees and his wife to stay in the room since I was going home. I had purchased a family bag of peanut M&M’s candy and my employee ate them all over the weekend but was gracious enough to buy me a brand new bag to replenish what he ate. I filled the bowl I had out and ate a couple Sunday night. When I got back to my room Monday night, I noticed that half of the bowl of M&M’s were gone. I know I didn’t eat them, my employee was back in Orlando and the only person that should have been in the room was housekeeping. I know I didn’t eat the because I don’t eat sugar after 3pm. Dismissing it as a freak housekeeper, I took a picture of the bowl of M&M’s and refused to touch them based on the thought of someone scrubbing the toilet and then casually strolling by and grabbing a handful of candy! UGH! Tuesday was my linen day and sure enough, when I got off work, the bowl of M&M’s was down to about 10 and apparently they didn’t care for the red ones! The audacity and arrogance of this person is beyond and I address with the guy working at the front desk and he too, is mortified! To this second I walked off property, the exact same amount of M&M’s are in the bowl from the very first event but now the mint Oreos’ are slowly disappearing. At this point, I am over the thief and refuse to buy anything else just to torment the savage at looking at the remaining M&M’s and Oreos as I won’t touch them ever! As the weeks have gone by, I find myself CONSTANTLY going to the front desk for the basics of toilet paper, paper towels and tissues and of course COFFEE. They leave me PLENTY of towels, like I can furnish my entire home if I was a thief for weeks without having to do laundry. Plenty of dishwashing soap and plenty of bar soap. I mean like the bar I opened plus another 2 or 3 bars a week! I get a tiny bottle of shampoo and lately, no conditioner, only body lotion! I have long hair and with the cheap shampoo, not having conditioner isn’t an option so I went to Walgreens and bought my own! I am not sure what it is with this hotel chain as they have a great concept, MOST of the people are amazing, I have yet to visit the restaurant but I am sure it’s nice. The pool looks beautiful from my balcony and I finally got to see the Gulf during the daylight a week ago and it’s gorgeous! If I am home early enough I also get to enjoy beautiful sunsets too! I can’t tell you how disappointing it is to choose a hotel like this and pay the extra money even though there is a very nice hotel that is cheaper 1 block from my jobsite. I chose this location because I had restaurants, shopping and bars within walking distance yet I can’t seem to get the basic items that a hotel ALWAYS provides after paying to stay for 40 days! CRAZY! So, as I said in my review on Sailport at Rocky Point in Tampa, it’s a great place to stay, the view is gorgeous, the people at the front desk are awesome though I HATE having to visit them twice a week after a long day at work. Concetta is lovely and my rock as she lets me vent to her about stolen M&Ms and no coffee or toilet paper. I checked out on Saturday December 21st and the one saving thanks I have is that again, I saved about $600 as I usually tip my housekeeping $100 a week but this stay, they will receive a partial bowl of M&M’s, some mint Oreo cookies and tons of towels! To housekeeping, may your life be cursed with never having enough toilet paper and if you do, I hope you drop it in the toilet! It’s not like I’m asking for something that isn’t provided in EVERY hotel across America here but for some reason, with this chain, the housekeeping takes their 5 star location and drags them down to 2 stars! Disappointing to say the least and for the money, I will go back to my chain hotels and bank all the money I save to buy toilet paper! Read less
