Marco Beach Ocean Resort

Marco Island, Naples and Marco Island

The hotel

Surrounded by the breathtaking backdrop of the Gulf of Mexico, the Marco Beach Ocean Resort offers a sublime retreat from everyday life. The hotel is located on a sugar soft beach with its azure waters offering an incredible variety of aquatic pursuits including snorkelling, windsurfing and sailing. All suites are luxuriously appointed, featuring fully-equipped kitchens, a balcony with views of the ocean or garden terraces. For the health conscious, there’s a fully-equipped fitness centre on the 4th floor or head up to the 5th floor to splash about in the rooftop pool. As you’re on holiday, you’ve every excuse to pamper yourself, so a trip to the hotel’s spa is a must. An impressive palette of treatments will soothe weary muscles and banish stress, leaving you feeling utterly relaxed. The concierge will be happy to arrange golf, tennis and charter sailing if you wish, all conveniently close by. If you’re a foodie, you’re in luck. Sale e Pepe is an award-winning restaurant specialising in fine dining Italian cuisine. The chef and his team create from scratch everyday a Piemontese-orientated menu (northern Italian with French influences) rounded out by signature dishes from many of Italy’s distinctive regions. Within Sale e Pepe is The Saletta, a more casual eatery with cafe-style seating. There’s also The Terrace with all-day alfresco dining and picture postcard views. After dinner, retire to Toulouse, an intimate and sophisticated lounge that pays homage to the Belle-Epoque era of Paris and the great artist, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

Great location for a luxury hotel, has its own part of the beach where the staff look after your every need, no need to move unless you want to. Great pool the bartender was so friendly as were all of the staff. Rooms are well appointed our only regret was having just two nights would most definitely return and recommend

Returning from the UK we had contacted the resort to ask for a kettle in the room and as we were staying for a week room on a high floor if possible to make the most of the Gulf view from the balcony. Having booked in January but having had email communication in September we assumed our request had been considered and hopefully dealt with. We checked in on a very busy Sunday to be told we were on the 9th floor and when I asked if there was anything on a higher floor I was told that there was no option to move us anywhere that night and maybe not for the whole stay. We reluctantly had to accept this for that night and were shown to our room. The room was immediately above the pool area where loud music was being played the view from the bedroom was of two walls either side and small opening to the ocean and once we viewed the bathroom we realised we were in a mobility accessible suite with no bath. The bathroom was the most depressing space imaginable and nothing like the normal bathrooms. It was very dark and dreary. No sign of the kettle either!! I immediately went down to reception to say that we found the room unacceptable especially as we were going to be in it for seven nights. Nothing else was available but the staff promised to look into it with reservations the following morning and contact us with an update as we were going out first thing that morning. Despite checking for an email or call for them most of the following day we heard nothing so we had to raise it again with reception when we returned late the following afternoon and the staff repeatedly told us how busy the resort was that week and how difficult it would be to move us. After an hours wait we were told that a room had been found on the 12th floor which we accepted. We will always be grateful to Joana who worked extremely hard on our behalf to ensure that we were eventually satisfied with the room and enjoyed our stay. It was most noticeable that despite the Management being aware of the issues no-one ventured out of their office to offer any form of apologies for our distress and dissatisfaction . We did feel somewhat that as we were foreign visitors we could be put in the worst room and hopefully not complain. During the next few days we learned that there were a lot of U.S. guests who were attending various conferences and it appeared to us that they had been allocated some of the best rooms despite the fact that they were there for a short stay and spent very little time in their rooms. We on the other hand spent hours on the balcony enjoying the view and relaxing. We did however eventually relax and enjoy our stay and are still of the opinion that MBOR is in a brilliant location the rooms are clean and well serviced and the regular bathrooms spacious and bright. We would consider returning but would definitely speak with reservations by telephone to ensure that they could meet our requirements without causing us the distress that we experienced this year. Once again thanks to Joana for her persistence in relocating us to a more suitable room and to those travellers requiring mobility accessible suites check out your bathroom and don't accept anything less than the best. Housekeeping was there twice a day if needed! Our room was next to a young couple and we could hear the baby crying at all hours. It wasn't loud and we didn't mind it but others might. If you have a car, you must valet park it and pay for parking. Personally, I like access to my vehicle and don't care to wait for someone to get it. Also, the hotel staff insists on taking your bag to the room. I don't see the point. I wheeled my little bag from my house through the airport and into my vehicle. I can wheel it into the room! LOL The hotel staff (except housekeeping and room service) were friendly but standoffish. When we checked in, the hotel staff person didn't even tell us the amenities or how to access the internet. She didn't mention the restaurants, spa, swimming pools, etc. The restaurant by the bar was great - great food and service. The Salt de Pepe was extremely expensive and not kid friendly. The cost of the suite was lowered before we left but the hotel wouldn't give us the lower price because I called 5 days before we arrived instead of 7 days. Read less
