Mayfair at Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove, Miami

The hotel

Mixing an intimate feel with a super-central spot in upmarket Coconut Grove, and the uber-cool styling you’d expect from a Miami hotel, The Mayfair has it all. In fact you don’t even need to venture out — the Miami scene comes to you, with the hotel’s Above Mayfair rooftop pool lounge featuring weekly ‘Sunset of Miami’ pool parties, Friday night happy hours, resident DJs, a curved Gaudi-esque seating wall complete with fireplace, a casual food menu, and custom cocktails. The rooftop is the hub of the action by day too, with its heated swimming pool and views over Miami and Biscayne Bay. Downstairs holds its own treasures though, with the Spartico trattoria’s authentic Italian dishes cooked up in an authentic Ambrogi oven, and the Jurlique Spa’s organic products.

We switched off the aircon as it was set up for 63F which was way too low, and every time after cleaners left our room, aircon was switched on with the lowest temperature what was very annoying! Coffee express is another thing which wasn’t cleaned during our stay. I am not sure about American standards and their 4* hotels, but in Europe and also Asia that would be unacceptable!!! Apart from above we had situations that apart of a good cleaning cleaners forgot to leave fresh towels refill coffee and cups. I have no words to say how disappointed I am with this hotel. We had to pay also for parking $30 per night + tax. Also, every time when we were taking a car, hotel staff was counting for the tip. Read less

We enjoyed our stay at the Mayfair. Yes, the hotel is a bit dated. However, the hotel has a certain vintage charm, and the hotel rooms are huge. The bathroom was especially large and comfortable. We also appreciated having a mini-fridge and microwave in the room. The only downside was the noise in the morning from nearby construction. The rooftop bar was also very nice. There were available lounge chairs and umbrellas, a full bar, and a lovely pool. We had a nice time relaxing at the pool. In sum, we found the hotel to be well-located in Coconut Grove and comfortable. We would recommend, so long as you find a reasonable rate. Read less

At one time this hotel must have been a wonderful place to stay. Now it seems to be a shell of its former self. Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful. However the staff seemed very thin with a shortage of bell staff. The front desk could not even produce a cork screw when asked. Our room was large and well laid out. However things dod… Read more

Large rooms, scare on furniture. Lovely towels, big bathroom. Housekeepers did not do a good job. Looked like they only made beds, changed towels. Sheets were not changed as requested, bedskirt was filthy, floors were filthy. Continental breakfast included rock hard croissant. Skipped it last 2 mornings as I did not feel area was clean. On 3 night woke up to STINKY SMELL, making me cough. It was marajuana smoking coming into our room. Room next door was a drop in center all day and night with slamming door- hall & balcony. Called front desk, if security came did not stop anything. We only had option to move rooms at 12:30 at night. Never brought lysol. Told front desk again as we checked out. What a nightmare place to stay. 3 housekeeping staff enjoyed break time in hallway while rooms/hotel remained filty. Ther you go, an honest review from someone who paid about $1000 for 3 nights. Before I mention the bad points I must say some of the staff were exceptional, Jason the porta was extremely helpful with advice on where to eat and getting free transport to and from places. Before I mention the bad points I must say some of the staff were exceptional, Jason the porta was extremely helpful with advice on where to eat and getting free transport to and from places. However, the hotel is let down by its house-keeping. We were in the hotel 3 nights, so our room needed making-up just twice for our benifit. On the first day I had to ask for the room to be done at 6;15 pm having returned from a day out. on the second day, the room was once again left and I asked again at 6, to be told the lady was finishing so she would ask somebody else to do it. We returned from dinner at 8;15 and it still hadn't been done, so I asked at reception, who told me they would get somebody on it immediately. Well it never happened. I don;t really understand why our room got left on both days, the rooms either side of us were both done in the morning (they had other family in ) so why was ours not done. I complained to reception again when we checked out but just got a "oh sorry" which really wasn't good enough...Should we return to Miami I will certainly be looking for an alternative hotel!
