Mayfair at Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove, Miami

The hotel

Mixing an intimate feel with a super-central spot in upmarket Coconut Grove, and the uber-cool styling you’d expect from a Miami hotel, The Mayfair has it all. In fact you don’t even need to venture out — the Miami scene comes to you, with the hotel’s Above Mayfair rooftop pool lounge featuring weekly ‘Sunset of Miami’ pool parties, Friday night happy hours, resident DJs, a curved Gaudi-esque seating wall complete with fireplace, a casual food menu, and custom cocktails. The rooftop is the hub of the action by day too, with its heated swimming pool and views over Miami and Biscayne Bay. Downstairs holds its own treasures though, with the Spartico trattoria’s authentic Italian dishes cooked up in an authentic Ambrogi oven, and the Jurlique Spa’s organic products.

My husband and I booked two nights at the Mayfair as a staycation for our first anniversary. The photos on the website were beautiful and probably described the hotel 10 years ago. I am trying to be kind and assume the hotel has fallen on hard times during the pandemic, but what we saw was absolutely unacceptable. The property as a whole was just...dirty and damp. Our room was full of flies and mosquitoes, the bathroom smelled like mold, and the whole place was damp. The room was so dirty that I was compelled to check for bed bugs, and that was the moment we decided to cut our losses and go back home. I would rather lose $275 than risk a night in such a place. Overall disappointing and misleading. Read less

Walked in and saw trash piled up by elevator and front desk. The property is NOT what you see online. It is gross, it smells and it is more like a motel off the side of a highway. We walked into the room and IMMEDIATELY rebooked to a hotel on Brickell that was luxe by every comparison. I thought the Mayfair was something it was not. Stop. Don’t… Read more

BEWARE False Advertising Not at All What is Shown Online!! Probably one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at, should’ve known it wasn’t going to be a good experience when I was checking in and a couple that was checking out pretty much told us to run. Other then the minimal staff that they had on sight I don’t have many nice things to say. Upon entering the room we were almost knocked off our feet by the musty, mold smell. The floors were disgusting I had either shoes or socks on at all times of my stay, the base boards which were all tile looked like they’d never been cleaned. The furniture was very worn and out dated, rips in the chairs, head board had burn holes, the dresser smelled of mold and mildew, the complimentary coffee pot was moldy there were mold spots all over the ceiling not to mention that every vent had mold/mildew all over them. There were missing fire alarms and the fire sprinklers were rusted. The white sheets and duvet weren’t white at all. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned there was mold in the tub that had been caulked over. Due to Covid the rooms weren’t cleaned on a daily basis so for the 4 days we stayed we never had new bath towels or restocked toilet paper. We had to have an order of cleaning supplies, towels and sheets delivered from Target since we didn’t feel comfortable sleeping on the linens or using the towels. We cleaned the bath tub, sink area and toilet before using any of them. We disinfected all the furniture, beds and bedding prior to sitting or laying on anything. The amount of dust that was wiped off of the furniture, headboards and closet area was disgraceful. Most of the amenities that they advertise as being available are not, there are no restaurants open on the premises, no spa, no bar, the pool area was open however the cleanliness was again questionable at best. All of the pool area furniture was dingy and dirty and most tables under the cabanas were broken. The pool bar was only open during the weekend. I understand that Covid has complicated many things over the past year but when you are in an industry that is supposed to cater to people and they are paying a lot of money to stay somewhere you should be providing the services that are promised if those services can’t be provided you shouldn’t be open. The other thing that really got me was when you check in they give you a paper that says all rooms are vacant for 48 hrs after check out so Covid cleaning can be performed I’m not sure who’s guidelines they are following or who’s providing the cleaning services but from the rooms I saw normal cleaning wasn’t being performed let alone “deep cleaning” due to Covid. I in no way am blaming the limited staff for any of this, this is totally on the management company. If they took the money they used to have the rooms and hotel staged for website pictures and put it towards paying their employees better and hiring more employees the hotel could really be a nice place, the rooms have potential with the proper cleaning and updating and the location is great. The only good thing I can say is that the wedding I was in and the reason I was staying there was beautiful. Their wedding site was very nice and the food was good. Their wedding planner Matilda was amazing and definitely went out of her way to make my friends day beautiful. Other then that I would definitely not recommend staying here, not worth the $1,000 I paid for the room or the other money I needed to put out to try and clean up the room to feel some what comfortable for my stay. Extremely disappointed and the only reason I gave 2 stars was because of the wedding. Read less

My boyfriend and I saw this place online and it looked really nice from the pictures. It was a little spendy but we decided to go for it. We arrived before our check in time, and the staff at the front desk let us go up and use the pool until our room was ready- which was super nice. We spent the afternoon by the pool, which was really clean and had a cool view. I can’t remember the bartenders name who was working at the pool bar, but he was fantastic. When we finally got to our room, it had a very musty smell and was kind of dark. There were hairs in the bathtub and it was obvious the room hadn’t really been cleaned too well (or at all). There were make up stains on our pillows and stains on our sheets. We requested new pillows/pillowcases but the front desk said that the cleaning service employees had already left for the night so this was not possible. The hottub on the deck also was not functioning. We ended up leaving at 10PM to find a different place to stay. The staff was very understanding and nice about it. Overall, staff is great, but hotel rooms aren’t very clean. Read less
