The hotel

The ultimate urban resort hotel, the world-class Delano is the very height of luxury. Stunning to look at, it also boasts beautiful Philippe Starck interiors which will awe and delight you in equal measures. When it opened in 1995 the hotel must have set a world record for the number of press inches devoted to a new hotel. Journalists, not normally easily impressed, waxed lyrical about the white rooms, the white marble, the white-clad staff and the all-white spa. Starck's design for the Delano's public spaces has achieved the status that all architects and designers long for: recognition as a 'classic', with its soaring ceiling height and forest of imposing column offering great visual drama. Ten years on, this place has still got what it takes - Messieurs Starck and Schrager: take a bow. There's a choice of dining options here and Rose Bar is a very glamorous meeting place with cocktails served under Venetian chandeliers. For night-time entertainment, look no further than FDR at Delano and if spa treatments are high on your list of priorities, head up to the rooftop Agua Spa, a peaceful sanctuary offering a wide range of treatments and panoramic city views.

Of exceptional mention are managers Roberto Wong and Soledad. They always went out of their way to assure our happiness. Diego, Jenn and the rest of the staff also stood out. I highly recommend this Hotel for anyone looking for a cool, classy, and comfortable, stay. Read less

I have never written a review in my life, but felt compelled to write this as we are now stuck in this hotel on our annual family trip with terrible customer service/no help from the hotels and. We checked in yesterday and were stuck in a corner room on the 6th floor. The noise was absolutely awful so we called down to see if we could be moved-no help/no rooms available. After looking further, our window to the street side in completely broke and open. After being awake all night due to noise, the front desks response in the morning was a free breakfast and they’ll fix the window. We have a 3 year old and are now stuck in this extremely loud, run down room for our family vaca. There are so many nice hotels in the area-save yourself and book somewhere else!! Read less

We enjoyed our visit to the Delano. I would say the negatives are that the elevators are very dark and there is no security required to access the floors. The lobby is also dark. The positives: Very nice bar on the first floor and the bartenders were friendly. The pool is very comfortable and has easy access to the beach (beach chairs provided for guests). They surprised us with a few treats throughout the day by the pool. Our room was small, but clean and bright. The people working at the hotel are friendly and helpful. Based on the staff and the pool area I would consider returning to this location. Read less

The room was lovely, the view was lovely. The pool was loud and crowded. Hotel and elevators were full of obnoxious guys talking loudly to each other. If that’s your thing, cool...whatever. But the absolute deal breaker was a knock on my door at 8 am, then hotel staff actually trying to walk in (I had the door latched, so no dice there) while I… Read more

I liked this hotel overall. The room was on the smaller side but had a good sized closet, was clean and had a great view. Room service was quick both times we ordered. We spent a lot of time at the pool where the staff and service was above average. The food was quite good for poolside fair. It’s a beautiful pool and was heated - which was nice since a few of our days did not offer super warm weather. It does get crowded so plan to reserve your chair early in the day. One side of the pool is dominated by cabanas that have to rented. That side of the pool also gets virtually no direct sun in the early winter (so beware before you opt to purchase a cabana). On the Saturday of our visit the club associated with the hotel was holding a pool party with DJ that required payment for a use of the pool lounge chairs. So essentially the entire pool was off limits to paid guests from 1-7pm that day. There seemed to be many annoyed guests who were not made aware of that when they booked the hotel. We opted to use the beach instead which was also very pleasant and the staff were attentive and helpful. There’s also more chairs and umbrellas on the beach as competed to the pool so no need to reserve early. My only other complaint about the pool is the fact that there are zero restrictions on smoking. I realize I’m coming from a northeast perspective where public smoking is regulated but it’s highly unenjoyable to spend your day trying to relax at the pool directly next to groups of people who spend the day chain smoking. We had to ask to move our seats several times because we ended up next to these groups. It’d be nice if the hotel could consider some alternative for a smoking area next to pool without making other guests just tolerate it all day. Overall this is a 4 star hotel in my opinion but I have to knock it 1/2 a star because I couldn’t fully enjoy the pool experience. Read less
