The hotel

Life’s a beach at the Kimpton Surfcomber, a central hotel boasting direct access onto those famous Miami sands as well as breathtaking ocean views. As an alternative, the over-sized pool is a popular place to laze by, complete with poolside bar serving refreshing cocktails and palm trees swaying in the breeze. There’s also a range of ‘Daylife’ activities on offer, including mixology seminars, kids ice cream breaks and guided Deco Bike tours along the famed Art Deco District and Collins Avenue. When it comes to dining, you’ve plenty on your doorstep but the Gastro Pub Restaurant is well worth a visit with its laid-back, friendly vibe. For a pre-dinner cocktail, The Social Club is ideal and don’t miss out on the complimentary Hosted Wine Hour – held from 5.00-6.00pm in the lobby.

We were riding bikes on south beach when we saw this cute bar. Stopped in to grab a drink and were greeted and served by a wonderful, fun, charming waiter. I believe is name was James :) Thank you so much for making our vacation and experience in Miami a fun and memorable one!

Consider staying here if you want a good location with a party vibe and atmosphere, and the location and activities around are more important to you than a spacious and comfortable room with a view. I would not recommend this place for families with young children or older couples who would feel out of place here. Also I would not recommend this hotel if you are scrupulous about cleanliness. We, two middle-aged couples, liked the central Miami beach location and walking distance to Lincoln road and Espanola Way, but we did not feel comfortable staying in this hotel, with the constant party feel in the lobby area and the noise level. I think it could be a lot of fun if that's what you're looking for, though. It just wasn't what we wanted. I did appreciate the boho vibe around the pool area. The rooms are small which in and of itself didn't bother me, being used to the typically smaller accommodations in Europe. However, what did bother me was the lack of cleanliness in the room. The ottomans under the window and the bathroom smelled odd, and there were multiple stains on the carpet. I have to say for me the "ick" factor was pretty high, such that I went out to the nearest Walgreens and bought some Lysol spray and wipes and started cleaning. This is a first for me in a hotel! I'm glad I did though because the ottomans were filthy. The bathroom continued to smell after my cleaning...not sure what's going on there, but I think a deep cleaning could be a good idea. The service at breakfast was extremely slow the one morning we tried it. We went across the street the next day for their breakfast buffet which was very good. The staff at the front desk was very nice and accommodating, allowing me to extend check out by an hour on the day of departure. Read less

The hotel has direct access to the beach and guests get to use lounge chairs and umbrellas for free. There is also free WiFi on the beach which is unusual but so useful for social media addicts! We didn’t have breakfast there because it didn’t look appealing but given the hotel’s great location you can find a place to eat within minutes of walking. The only downside is the paper thin walls which I didn’t expect given the status of the hotel. Read less

Also an easy walk to Lincoln Road mall where there are plenty of restaurants. Bathroom was rather compact, but shower was efficient. Adequate storage space and reasonable wifi. Hotel had a nice feel to it. Free drinks at Social Hour is a bonus. Restaurant is adequate, but nothing special. Main gripe was the constant (and frankly awful) music played throughout the day and into the night, which intruded into our room and was quite annoying. Otherwise, a decent hotel - a bit expensive, but I imagine pretty much on a par with similar class hotels on Miami Beach. Read less

The hotel room and bathroom is small (but clean). There is no way around the fact that it's a tight squeeze when you're in the room and the views aren't good. However, if it's more about the amenities and location (after all, you're not visiting Miami to see its hotel rooms), then Surfcomber is very good. It's a got a great pool and excellent… Read more

However, if it's more about the amenities and location (after all, you're not visiting Miami to see its hotel rooms), then Surfcomber is very good. It's a got a great pool and excellent access to the beach where you can reserve umbrellas and get towels. The staff and service are fantastic --- always willing to help. We also had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and it was excellent --- the kids will love the fresh made donuts and the adults will enjoy the eggs benedict or if you are health conscious, the avocado toast. Location is also very good with a short walk to Ocean Drive, Espanola Way, and Lincoln Road. Read less
